The majority of this information is total bull, Claude was always the main protag, Novy is a musician who had a song called "back to the streets" in GTA3's beta, this model was in the files for unknown reasons. But if you look in the beta screens of GTA3 you can clearly see Claude has always been the main protag.

Actually, that is Tom Novy, a real-life musician. He and his song "Back to the Streets" were removed from the game before release. He may of been a boss and been to GTA 3 as Love Fist is to GTA: VC and Madd Dogg to GTA: SA.

I'd like to get a version for the PC that has the original gameplay sequence as conceived for the PS2 version pre-9/11.

Claude Speed was the main character in GTA 2. It says so in the instruction booklets credits section. I can't say for sure but I'm pretty sure Claude was the main character for GTA 1 aswell. So Claude was the main character for the first 3 "proper" GTAs (Vice City etc are just off shoots) then we got Niko.
