This song was released in 1978 and was played almost aggressively by Capital radio in London about every 40 minutes for 3 weeks. I was working on a building site at the time and eventually resorted to turning off some elses radio everytime it came on because it began to make me feel mental! its taken me 34 years to summon up the courage to revist the song..which I agree is catchy and fun...just not every 40 minutes all day long!!
i used to get my mum to play that on seven inch when i was 6yrs old, cant believe i just found that, how freaking cool is that, thanks for sharing, it mad my year.
Was it just me that thought he was singing 'I was eating a Giro sandwich' in a reference to having just cashed his dole cheque?

Oh. Sorry. They're all probably Brits. Who'd want to listen to an Elton John wannabe cabaret clone. This music is awful.

@DonVueltaMorales This is a classic tune. And he is not an Elton wannabe, he's more of a class act!

@pinkandjefflynne Were you in NYC in 1979? There wasn't much to be happy about, unless of course you loved cocaine, prostitutes and crime.

Oh man, this guy has been seriously underrated. What happened to him?

@555pontifex I agree... Gerard is a class act, he may have lacked the huge commerical success, but he is a legend none the less.

Looks like one of those German TV music show audiences where they all look like they're waiting around for the late night porn movies.

Never new in addition to being a great comedian, Jerry Seinfeld could sing! :)
