What did the big studios to to Laurel and Hardy in the 1940's? They destroyed all the originality than came from Stans writing and the magic that existed in the old Hal Roach days.
This stuff is crap and Stan said so himself in later years. He was not allowed any artistic input into these films and, doesn't it show.
to my mind, looking at this stuff is sad. This is not Laurel and Hardy.
Interesting that there is a gasoline shortage and people taking advantage of the situation. It appears there has always been a shortage of gasoline ... wait a minute!
@PAMAROSHOUSE Can't stand silent films? What are you, 5? You do realise Laurel and Hardy also made quite a few silent films. And if you don't watch them, how can you say Laurel and Hardy are funnier? I'm not saying Chaplin's better or worse but saying Laurel and Hardy were the first and last of the greatest comedians is pretty stupid.
@46Doug@46Doug "these guys were the first and last of the greatest comedians."
Yeah OK, Granddad, if it makes you feel better, let's pretend there were no great comedians before the 1930s and that there have been none since. Bob Hope, Phil Silvers, Charlie Chaplin, Mike Myers etc. etc. etc. must have all been figments of our imagination. Twat.
@neil73 Alum powder, found in the spice section of many grocery stores, may be used in pickling recipes as a preservative to maintain fruit and vegetable crispness.
@neil73 Alum is an astringent- a mineral, thats used to stem blood flow. It was standard equipment in the barber shops and in the home when we used straight razors. If you had a nick, alum appllied stopped the bleeding immediately. We had a chunk of it in our medicine cabinet for years- I was fascinated with it as a kid, and with watching my Dad shave with a straight razor. Can you imagine having those in the home now? Its what we grew up with a million years ago.
