Not only that though. The panelists are picked by another American panel, so even though it's called a worldwide award, the fact is it's only for movies that American audiences will like. That's why Slumdog won, because it fits well with ignorant American stereotypes about Mumbai and the shit that goes down there, and this didn't win an Oscar because Americans are too stupid to understand cricket. I'm an American-born Desi, so I've seen how the Americans react to Indian movies.

@spreacus: I would beg to differ here. Slumdog Millionaire was a bad movie, and strictly avg at best. I happen to read the book it was inspired from. A singularly uninspiring book might I add.

Danny Boyle's real talent as in making that book into atleast a watchable film.
