I watched this dozens of times when I was a kid. The tv show was not interesting for me. Always thought it was funny how all the natives on this desert planet were all light skinned and not dark. This movie came at a good time, at a brief hiatus of just stupid kids comedies in the home alone vein. When it came out, I was like: great! Another Sci-fi movie at last! I wasn't disappointed. :)

@Blackchain119 why not stargate? stargate isent some advanced word. it makes perfect sence, a gate (they did have gates back then) to the stars. so calling it Stargate would be fine.

Well, putting aside the fact that the scripts would not be interpreted by any professional as the singular word, but as two distinct words, the script did not contain the glyph "Seba" which is the hieroglyph for "Star". "Door to Heaven" was a better interpretation. Keeping in mind this is merely my opinion of the scene, nothing else.
@Blackchain119 in the italian dub he says "porta delle stelle (gate to the stars), stargate!" to maintain coherence with them calling it stargate thereafter but the complete translation was (at least, within the adaptation) "gate to the stars"
stargate is an epic movie not a series & yes the preview sucks. sg1 was the series. i liked most of sg1 and atlantis was getting just as good, too bad it was cancelled. sgu never made any sense its amazing how their supplies lasted for a whole season

We are the people that spend money to go to the movies, but even like that, they don´t care about us. It makes me mad to see the series cancelled. Atlantis had so many years to come. The main story had promise, Rush, Eli, the relationship between Rush and the Captain, Rushes hidden agenda... but it was destroyed for me. @Anon32645 I actually didn't hate SGU. You are totally right that its not very similiar to the other shows, and I don't like watching it cause it reminds me of the original Stargate. I like it because it's interesting, and as it's own show, pretty good. The first episodes weren't that great, but I've gotta say that the episodes close to end of season 2 are amazing and actually in some places, very touching. Still, ofcourse I like SG 1 and SGA more. But in my opinion SGU is great in it's own way.

@pruttisman It depends on the perspective i guess. If I look at it as a Stargate show I can't aprreciate it at all since, in my opinion, it's a disgrace to the Stragate franchise. But then again if you disregard the stargate bit it isn't half bad, as a horror-ish / action sci-fi.
@pruttisman I agree with that. SGU took far too long to figure out what it was about. A lot of the first few episodes were pretty much the same story with something different to find. One week they need something to help the life support system, next week they need water, then they need power. When they finally got out of those stories and did something interesting a lot of people had stopped watching. I personally think "Time" is one of the best episodes, fantastic writing.
@theotherone50 No I'm not. I approached it as a Sci-Fi character drama but it doesn't play as a good character drama, for the first 8 episodes the only interesting characters were Rush and Everett. Eli had the potentially to become very interesting and he did over time. The storylines were very samey for the first 8 episodes and it took far too long to find it's footing, that's why people stopped watching. Time was the turning point and it started to get very interesting then.
@dykesy30 Consider that your interest in certain characters is very much subjective. And Time, well Time was a fairly pointless stand-alone. None of the development counted for anything, because it was all an alternate time-line. There was some decent fleshing out of the characters, but not enough to dedicate an entire episode to in my opinion.

And your theory on it being an "alternate time-line" is wrong too because they would have gone through the same development after the end scene. I can't be bothered arguing to be honest because I can see how long and pointless this argument would get and I've got more important things to do today. So I shall day bye bye
@dykesy30 They wouldn't have gone through the same development, because Scott's message at the end would have told them everything they needed to know, they wouldn't have gone through any of the same things the characters in the episode did, thus making the development completely inconsequential, and therefore pointless.

@Blackchain119 why not stargate? stargate isent some advanced word. it makes perfect sence, a gate (they did have gates back then) to the stars. so calling it Stargate would be fine.

Well, putting aside the fact that the scripts would not be interpreted by any professional as the singular word, but as two distinct words, the script did not contain the glyph "Seba" which is the hieroglyph for "Star". "Door to Heaven" was a better interpretation. Keeping in mind this is merely my opinion of the scene, nothing else.

@Blackchain119 in the italian dub he says "porta delle stelle (gate to the stars), stargate!" to maintain coherence with them calling it stargate thereafter but the complete translation was (at least, within the adaptation) "gate to the stars"

stargate is an epic movie not a series & yes the preview sucks. sg1 was the series. i liked most of sg1 and atlantis was getting just as good, too bad it was cancelled. sgu never made any sense its amazing how their supplies lasted for a whole season

wow I forgot how old that movie was. Stargate makes part of our history. Who would guess that so many would be in love with that. We are millions all over the world. We are the people that spend money to go to the movies, but even like that, they don´t care about us. It makes me mad to see the series cancelled. Atlantis had so many years to come. And SGU was just about to get finally good. Depressing.

@01000001011100100111 SGA is pretty much a high tech version of SG-1, and while the wraith isn't as good enemies as the goa'uld were it's still the same concept. SGU isn't stargate at all, it shouldn't have been allowed into the stargate franchise. It's more of a bad live action Dead Space show.

The main story had promise, Rush, Eli, the relationship between Rush and the Captain, Rushes hidden agenda... but it was destroyed for me. Eli's mother, affair with captions wife, Chloes friends. pretty much every scene on earth. The civilian rebellion...lol... if you notice the show was changed it got better by the end of second season. Even the producers realized what they failed at. continued...

@Anon32645 I actually didn't hate SGU. You are totally right that its not very similiar to the other shows, and I don't like watching it cause it reminds me of the original Stargate. I like it because it's interesting, and as it's own show, pretty good. The first episodes weren't that great, but I've gotta say that the episodes close to end of season 2 are amazing and actually in some places, very touching. Still, ofcourse I like SG 1 and SGA more. But in my opinion SGU is great in it's own way.

@pruttisman It depends on the perspective i guess. If I look at it as a Stargate show I can't aprreciate it at all since, in my opinion, it's a disgrace to the Stragate franchise. But then again if you disregard the stargate bit it isn't half bad, as a horror-ish / action sci-fi.

@pruttisman I agree with that. SGU took far too long to figure out what it was about. A lot of the first few episodes were pretty much the same story with something different to find. One week they need something to help the life support system, next week they need water, then they need power. When they finally got out of those stories and did something interesting a lot of people had stopped watching. I personally think "Time" is one of the best episodes, fantastic writing.

@theotherone50 No I'm not. I approached it as a Sci-Fi character drama but it doesn't play as a good character drama, for the first 8 episodes the only interesting characters were Rush and Everett. Eli had the potentially to become very interesting and he did over time. The storylines were very samey for the first 8 episodes and it took far too long to find it's footing, that's why people stopped watching. Time was the turning point and it started to get very interesting then.

@dykesy30 Consider that your interest in certain characters is very much subjective. And Time, well Time was a fairly pointless stand-alone. None of the development counted for anything, because it was all an alternate time-line. There was some decent fleshing out of the characters, but not enough to dedicate an entire episode to in my opinion.

And your theory on it being an "alternate time-line" is wrong too because they would have gone through the same development after the end scene. I can't be bothered arguing to be honest because I can see how long and pointless this argument would get and I've got more important things to do today. So I shall day bye bye

@dykesy30 They wouldn't have gone through the same development, because Scott's message at the end would have told them everything they needed to know, they wouldn't have gone through any of the same things the characters in the episode did, thus making the development completely inconsequential, and therefore pointless.
