  • your voice is really calming to do math to

  • its just pluging points in the equation, then solve for a and b and then put them together! i get this ! yay thx!

  • I still do not understand how to do this question:

What is the focal point given the following exponential function; (transformation of function y=5^x)

    4/25^(x-4) * (1/8y - 3 ) = √[1/125^(-4x+8)]

  • I can't thank you enough..

ALL OF YOUR VIDEOS ARE EXTREMELY HELPFUL!!

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH. This helped me out A LOT. :)

  • can you possibly tell me what the "b" from the equation y=ab^t because that's the only thing my notes don't tell me and ironically its what i need for this assignment :)

  • This helped SOO much. Thankss :)

  • this is assuming there were no transformations other than vertical stretch right?

  • Thank you so much my teacher hasn't taught us something this useful yet...

  • wow thanks so much this saved my end of year exams!

  • Nice video. Very clear. Saved my butt after I missed 2 classes in a row.

  • 1:04 I've been making my O's wrong my whole life...

  • Thank you!

  • where did you get the 2/3 at 4:17?

  • A very effective video! Thanks a lot, it really helped. Keep the videos coming; you're a wonderful teacher.

  • thanks so mcuh!

  • You're awesome, thank you, thank you, thank you. Watching this should be my precal credit, not attending my class...

  • Hi, i would just like to say thank-you very much for uploading this video. I had a year 11 maths B assignment to do and no where on the internet could my dad and i find anything to help us. EXCEPT YOU!! so thanks again!! =)

  • Thanks man, I was so happy lol.

  • screw math

  • @GETJACKED37 lol i know how you feel

  • amazing!Fabulous!Cool!

  • thank you so much! you saved me! I had missed class and was not taught any of this but I still needed to know it.

You explained the process very clearly and slow, thank you again. ^-^

  • what about translations :S how would you find a horizontal translations??

  • I think my teacher showed it a different way. Placing one equation on top of the other, then dividing the two so the a's cross out and u subtract B's exponents and solve for them or something like that. I can't remember or find my notes on it though.

  • @Jhand1013 yes, that way is more efficient; however, i have found that many students also find it more confusing, so i show this method as well as it is 'more familiar' to most students.

  • @patrickJMT What about when you have an amplitude (one single number) instead of x and y coordinates? What do I put in for y and x in the formula y = ab^x?

    Does that even make sense...?

  • @Jhand1013 that is elimination... you can use either way :)

  • Thank you! :) I'm ready for my test now.

  • are you a teacher?

  • @Fanatic048 no, i no longer stand in front of a class

  • Thank you so much for making it so simple!

  • Great job! I had this problem on my test today! Thanks!

  • Thank you so much, this video has really helped me understand how to make this kind of equation, big help for my up coming test!

  • patrick yo voice sounds wierd on thisone

  • wow... thanks so much...this really helped me. do some calc problems please!! i feel like i'm going to be screwed this semester in college calc! :(

  • Oh man, I get lost at 3:20.

  • Thanks so much! helped a lot!

  • T POWER!!!!! 5:34

  • This guy has a lot of good and helpful videos! this video is a good example!

  • That you so much! Helped me with my project, and I got an amazing grade because your explanation was really simplistic and straight forward. I really appreciate the video.

  • what college did u attend?

  • dude.. let me buy you a beer!

  • thank you ... Taught 500% better than my teacher

  • This is awesome, you explain it way better than my teacher. You saved my ass

  • THANK YOU! SAVED ME :)

  • thank you! :D

  • thank you!

  • thank you! this is very helpful

  • i fucking love you

  • wait why did you multiply it by 2/3?

  • Quiz tomrw ahh,my teacher does this way different with functions instead. Here solve this. Find an exponential function having the given values: F(3) = 64 and f(5)= 10.42

  • Fantastic, thank you. (:

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH

    It really helped me :)

  • AH HAH! You sir are a blessing to people like me. I'm sitting here starring at the question thinking "What do they mean find the exponential function!?!?" When you break it down to "Hey man, just solve for one variable, then the other" I'm like "Oh!" :D Thanks again, you are the only reason I made it through Pre-Calc, no here's hoping for Calc I and II !

  • omg thanx so much! this really helped a lot

  • thx man, clear explanation

  • wait..how did you get t? why is t equal to two? 5:35

  • This is very useful! thanks so much!

  • i still don't understand

  • Patrick I would just like to say a sincere thank you for these wonderful videos. I cannot explain how helpful they are, you are the best teacher I have ever had. Keep up the good work, you are a shining light in the immense blackness and pain of math!

  • eer, sry, i still don't understand. sigh...but thanks anyways....

  • Thank you!!!

  • Thanks. :)

  • Wow, you saved me. My final is today and I was having trouble with this. Thanks!!!

  • great man thanks for the help.

  • thanks this helped :)

  • This video was very helpful. Thanks!

  • Okay.. but how would that work if you had more complicated transformations? Like vertical and horizontal expansion, reflection and translation at the same time??

  • this was very helpful thnx for uploading!

  • How can someone dislike this? o.O

  • thanx soooo much!

i can finish my hmwk now!!!! im soooo estatic! :P

  • Question.. so you wouldnt use the f(x) = a^x to solve that??

  • thank you

    great help

  • thank you so freaking much.

  • @2equals4 math takes time... i am still

confused about many things as well

  • wow thanks so much! :D hehe left handed... very cool :]

  • my dumbass math teacher never taught us this stuff so this is awesome hehe

  • ahah i like the very end of the video, "i hope this helps" yes of course it helped. this was bomb

  • thank you for saving my life also!

  • This is excellent work; thank you so much!

  • oh my god you saved my life with this! thank you so much!!!

  • You are a savior!!

  • i think writting with the left hand is so cool!! just saying.

  • yeah its really cool when he is writing on the left side of the screen - not so much on the other side. Now if he switched to his right for the right side of the screen, That would be cool! Just saying.

  • lmao, imagine if he can write with both hands that would be very cool... i might ask him to marry me... just saying

  • dude i was thinking the same thing i love lefties' handwriting!

  • IKR it got something hot to it

  • haha if you say so. i love seeing them write with pens cuz they sometimes smear the pen with their hand on accident...so funny to waych haha

  • you can also find the b by the common ratio but i guess they didn't give you enough points to do that....

  • you are a life saver! lol

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! You have no idea how long I've been searching for something like this. You rock!

  • thanks for the help. what you do in 6:22mins takes my professor 30mins, thanks again

  • I am a very big fan of PatrickJMT!!! Thank you so much for sharing your math knowlege with us. You're the best!!!:)

  • oohh...thanx 4 d help...I cant understand how to derive equation by the graph of exponential function becasue our prof is so

  • you: "i hope this helps.."

me: "omg it sure did !"

    thanks so much (:

  • Thank you so much! Your video was very helpful and easy to follow!

  • thanks alot man:P

  • Thanks for the vids, man. Really, really good stuff.

    And fun as well.

  • this is soooooo helpful!

  • thanks! much better than my teacher lol

  • ty this been pissing off for ages

now i know how to do it on the dai of the exam tyyyyyyy

  • y=a(1-r)^x

  • this makes my life easier

  • thank you so much

  • thanks man this really helped out

  • boooooooo ya

  • wow, this is something i'm doing in my dreams,it so simple...it's so fundamental...

  • is there any other video of finding equation that just only one point? still the same topic...

  • i'm a lefty like you but i'm not a geek...i wish all lefties are geeks :) then i would inherit the earth as well hehehe

  • the ones who do not realize it are usually the biggest geeks of all!! : )

  • After solving the equation that you gave us the way u did it, i remembered that it could also have been done a MUCH EASIER WAY. instead, you could have divided the two problems.EX:12=ab^2/ 3/2=ab^0. Since the two A's cancel out, you can easily solve for B. seriously saves time. Nevertheless, i still luv ur videos. I learn alot THX.XD

  • i agree, but when i show people this in my algebra classes, it always just seems to confuse them! : )

  • thanks... so much easier than studying from the textbook.

  • i agree... always nice to be able to watch examples. only here, you can rewind!

  • This helped out a lot. I really appreciate it!

  • thanks bro u helped a lot XD Keep it up..

  • awesome!

i have a huge test on this stuff tomorrow and i was so lost.

    thank you so much :]

  • no problem!

which one are you in the picture? : )

  • thank you friend :)

  • fo' sho! : )

  • Excellent refresher.

  • glad it helps!
