At the time we took it for granted and thought didn't think much of it but now there's just no comparison to the modern dog-shit excuse for music. it's all been done before only much better.
Imagine having scaled mount everest, with your fovourite bong. You're naked and now your taking a virgin rip of O.G kush, from a exotic inline precooled, ultra loop de loop, stem-line to in-line....... you've ripped....lung and mind expansion.....exhale.... THAT's what this tune reminds me of... reply if you know what I'm talking about :)
i first saw and heard this when i woke up on the lounge , it was on late nite 'Rage' and it was so dreamy and brilliant,!! and the beginnings of House music, and my/our world would never be the same,,, simply superb!!!!!
I love this song - went to the Amazing Wickerman Festival last July 2010 in Kirkcudbright Scotland, and 808 State headlined on Sunday night - played an amazing set for 2 hours and finished with a massive version of this plus the original! I am truly privileged!
@AldershotRB I moved to Manchester for ten years becasue of the music and partied hard all that time... including the Hacienda. And there was something about that place that just grabbed hold of you....
i remember hearing this first time off my head on something. The impact this song had when i first heard it in that state of mind....holy fuck, it was pure euphoria i have been trying to capture that moment in thousands of other songs but nothing has had the same impact this one had that time, Its very powerful and brings up a lot of memories. One of the truly all time great electonica tracks.
my all time favourite dance track.doesnt matter what kind of shitty day i have had at work, put this on and everything seems ok.first heard 808 state years ago then went to see them at the waterfront in norwich and have been hooked ever since!!!
This was the tune that got me from acid house into hardcore. I was 16 and shopping one Saturday in Croydon, walked into this funky clothes shop and this was belting out over the sound system. I went up to the guy at the counter and asked him if it was his cassette playing and did he know the track. Turns out he'd been raving the night before and had seen 808 State play this live a couple of weeks earlier. Quick trip to Wax City Records and I had it on 12". Absolute classic tune!
WHAT EVER GENERA YOU PUT IT IN,,I'VE BEEN LISTENING TO THIS 20 YEARS+ ON AND OFF,,AND THIS REMAINS THE EVEREST OF EVERYTHING THAT HAS BEEN OR WILL BE.. DON'T MATTER WHICH VERSION YOU HEAR..ON WHAT EVER DAY IN LATE 1980'S 808STATE PRODUCED A TRUE MASTERPIECE OF EPIC PROPORTIONS,,I WILL FOR EVER BE GRATEFUL TO THEM AS THIS TRACK HAS GIVEN ME SO MUCH PLEASURE IN MUSIC LISTENING..I DO PLAN ONE DAY to see these guys PLAY LIVE,,AS TIME IS RUNNING OUT.
GMEX 1991 - I was about 20 ft from the stage during the 808 state concert, Massey kicks this off and I end up about 10 ft nearer due to the pure surge filled with adrenalin and euphoria! My vinyl back catalogue is still kept safe with several versions of this masterpiece....the 808 State anthem!
this is what got me into electronic music, hearing 808 state 90 at my cousins wedding reception! the next day i bought the album from 'our price' music in slough..... amazing
was born in 1987, granted am younger than most people who like this stuff but i think i'd sacrafice bein older to have grown up in these times, just excellent.
Missed raves!!!! saddens me to think i'll never experience them :( also, back when ecstacy WAS ecstacy, surely someone still has the formula? where is this chap!!
The Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas soundtrack had the best music on it, rock, hip-hop/rap, house/dance, grunge, every genre! Good times and a amazing ambient song!
Oh, wow - I still got goosebumps from hearing that after all those years it still sends shivers up and down my back and takes me to a very, very special place; that's just for me, but this record has lost none of it's beauty over two decades along the road.
Magnificent - thank you SOOO much for posting an all-time classic (and, if you didn't guess my all-time number one rave tune) from a guy who was pretty young then and ain't no more.
I first listened to this song when I was like 12 or 13 years old, on an extinct radio station here in Mexico, called "Radioactivo" and since then, my life wasn't the same.
@karinoiseluzinda The firs time i listen to this song was when i was 15 and i watched the 24 hrs Party People movie in LA, then i few years later i founf a 12'" of this track, since then, my life has changed a lot.

This tune blew the roof off the Hacienda in 89, still one of my all time favourites - even the young are jealous of what we got in the late 80's & 90's - I would be too, just fantastic to have been there & experienced it 'full on'!! been there (Manchester, new York, Ibiza - etc). For those who doesn't know:
most of 808 State songs were riped off from Justin Bieber,
"Pacific State" is actually "Stuck In The Moment" by Justin Bieber,
If you don't believe me, you don't really know about music.
Please thumbs up so people can see and stop listen unoriginal crap like 808 State.
