i remember putting out a watermelon on a small fence in my backyard. then my friend and i took out a bunch of kitchen knives and had a field day. its a great way to make a mess, ruin a couple of knives, and sufficiently piss off your mother.
@infinitiRG That true, and something I talk about a little in Knife Throwing 3. The handles will break, but if the knife is heavy enough, it can still be used.
@chuk99 Great tip using cardboard so you dont get one back. If i wanted that i would buy nunchucks lol. How do you make sure that ur hitting the target with the blade rather than the handle?? :o)
@OnBrokenDreams Thanks for the comment. To hit with the blade, start off close and work on controlling ths pin, as I show in my first knife throwing video.
@chuk99 :oS Bought a knife off of the internet. The cold steel perfect ballanced thrower. Its as long as my forearm and half my hand. It weighs a ton. Am guessing this isnt a good first knife??????
throw it into wood or something more practical like a tree cardboard isnt vary realistic if u ever really needed to throw a knife into someones thought
@blinkme767 If you look closely, you'll see the cardboard is over particle board. The particle board is a very bad material for targets because it's dense and doesn't have any grain. The knives stick in the cardboard instead of bouncing off particle board. At the moment we don't even have that piece of particle board anymore. It would be nice to get a more practical target.
"Thought"? I'm not sure what you meant by that, but I hope my answer helped.
I knew it, You're a Martial artist, that's why you agree on throwing practical knives,, tnx for your suggestions on my throwing problems,, They're a lot of help
@ryanownzadeathnote most stores that sell REAL throwing knives requires that you are eighteen or have an adult but no knives from wally world or something you can buy at any age
@chuk99 Yesterday I went with a friend to a field to practice with the knife. It was the first time we threw knives. It took 15 minutes to learn. Then he said, "lets see what happens if I throw it like this," he launched it as if to throw a stone into the water to bounce. And the knife flew about 25 meters with the tip ahead all the time!
I have tried it with almost all my knives and most of them stuck pretty good. Thank you I never knew how to throw a knife but I have always been damn good with darts....
@cleaderc From this distance (7-12 feet), I throw by the blade. For every 7 or so feet after that, it will have another half turn. So for around 15-19 feet, I hold it by the handle.
There's some discussion of this in my Knife Throwing video.
Now, I'm curious. I've heard that there are certain 'unspoken Equations' to this, where you have to take into account the length, width of the tang, weight of the knife and distance from your target, and to throw them you have to slightly ajust your throw accordingly. And kitchen knives I know are not good for throwing, yet I can see that you're still adapt at throwing them in this situation. So I ask: is there any secret that you use that allows you to actually throw all of these knives?
@ManticoreFire Thanks for the question. When I learned, I was told the first flip would be about eight feet, the second and successive flips would be every four feet. I pretty quickly learned that wasn't the case. One can control the flips and even throw without any rotation. Remember to find the balance point. Heavy knives, whether they are throwing knives or kitchen knives, will rotate less and have more penetrating power.
@MRxUndefined It's a few layers of cardboard over some particle board. The particle board is too dense and bends the tips of the knives, so the cardboard helps the knives stick in the target.
Thanks for the question. Any knife will do. The way I see it, one can't always find a throwing knife, but a heavy kitchen knife will work and be easily accessible.
@shelltech83 Good point about the butterfly knives and folding knives. If the handle is locked into position, knives can be thrown. I've used non-locking folding knives, but it helps if they don't fold easily.
Two months ago i went to a Bed Bath & Beyond, bought myself a 6 pack of Kitchen Trend jumbo steak knives. They were on clearance for $10. I tried them out and they worked really good.
throwing a sword sounds like a pretty dumb idea, when you miss you have no more sword and a pissed off guy coming at you... probably bradishing the sword you just threw at him... Gee i'll bet you wish you had a sword right now.
I'm thinking that the balance and center of gravity on a samurai sword or comparable katana-style blade would be significantly different from a regular knife, and thus make throwing a much more daunting task. However, I'm not an expert nor have I any real experience in the matter, so this is all just conjecture.
heya dude its me again my throwing knife's arrived all 9 of them
6 silver small ish ones and 3 black traditional kunai the kunai are much better it took me a while to get used to throwing them without flicking my wrist at the end but now i have done that knife throwing is seeming to be a very impressive enjoyable hobby the kunai i have to say are exceptionally better whereas the other 6 silver ones are kind of pathetic because they are so small and light and have hardly and point
all knives can be thrown no matter what knife it is it just takes time, practice and skill to learn how to through them
