  • i love trains in san francisco

  • Typicaly, the SP engines that recieved air horns had "skyline" casting above their boilers, one of the most notable examples is the 4449, however, the Cab Forwards also got an airhorn.

  • @Kahless02 - A few of the Pacifics that worked the SF - SJ commutes got them. Not all of them. I have a photo of 2467 with an air horn placed between the number boards. Not sure how many got them though.

  • @danosf Are those Caltrain Coaches?

  • @360Nomad Those were the VRE cars that Caltrain leased for a short time, if I remember right. Not sure where they went after Caltrain.

  • Those were GGRM's Glory Days. Hope they come back.

  • @ThomasRivette Me too Thomas, if not the UP then perhaps the BNSF i'm pretty sure.

  • Was this one of those Toys for Tots specials?

  • God you'd think it was 1950 all over again. Wonderful clip. Thanks!

  • When was this filmed?

  • I hope they bring back the silver cylinder heads.

  • Thats I call a shot!! :D

  • That looked like South San Francisco. It has to be because its always windy there.

  • Very hard core

  • wow what a great whistle and a great video

  • @DanielVolker That really Sucks!

  • Does her air horn work at all?

  • Don't think this one has one. 2467 has one hidden behind the boiler steps. Many of the engines got them (around the late 40's or early 50's) and they were placed on top of the smoke box between the number boards.

  • Thanks.

  • It was the 5900.

  • I am 62 now, but one vivid memory was the ride I had on a 4-10-4 from Golden BC to Glacier. I was 6. The memory of this gives me goose bumps. (Daddy-o worked on the CPR)

  • It is officially done with its overhaul, and is doing its break-in runs right now at Niles Canyon.

  • Sweet! More SP 6 chime action!

  • i agree. i really love the sp 6 chime whistles. this particular gives me goose bumps.this whistle also reminds me of the whistle 3751 uses.

  • That's because it is the whistle on the 3751!!

  • @ThomasRivette Negative, the SP and ATSF both used 6 chime whistles that sounded similar, but were distinctly different. This is a true SP-6 chime.

  • Acctualy, 3751 does have an SP 6 chime. I talked to my Golden Gate Railroad Museum buddies and they said 3751's whistle is an SP 6 chime.

  • hmmm. that's strange. 3751's whistle sounds distinctly at&sf. like at&sf 3415.....

  • I like the 5-chime whistles better though

  • I don't agree. 6 chime wins.

  • Well, I must admit the 6 chime is a really nice whistle, but I'm still sticking with the 5 chime

  • The Steam locomotive; Possibly the most amazing machine ever built by mankind. No other machine matches the exitement and awe when you look at trains like this one.

  • Its almost done with its overhaul. Its being stored at Niles Canyon Railway, California

  • Hope it runs again soon. I miss it pulling excursions through the bay area.

  • I understand SP #2472 is up and running again. Any

    excursions planned?

  • not for a while. GGRM still getting steam ups and break in runs scheduled, still in completion of overhaul.

  • nice !

  • Awsome video.

It would sure be great to have our beloved SP #2472 up and running again. Its ashame it has been avicted from Hunters Point, and has to go away. I have a lot of fond childhood memories of her running on the CalTrain line. May she always steam and ride the rails, where ever she goes.
