Gerald McRaney went from playing 1/2 of Simon and Simon to now playing a Major Dad and he also played a Father in the Spin-off of Touched By an Angel called Promise Land
Those were the good 'ol days and now, abc, NBC and CBS along w/Fox are showing too much Reality Nonsense, the only good shows on Primetime are House, M.D. and Grey's Anatomy
But also, this series debut in 1989 along w/Family Matters, Saved By the Bell and Captain N: The Game Master and The Super Mario Bros. Super Show
Great comedy show for the 80's and even now whenever I catch an episode of it online, it still stands the test of time, as does all great comedy shows. The General was the real scene stealer of the show, especially in the episodes, Night School and Charlotte's Web.
@adheckle - The United States Air Force praised Stargate SG-1 for their positive portrayal of the Air Force, even though that show was in no way shape or form realistic!
i love this show. its so funny at times. you know he is married to delta burke and gerald is a southern boy from miss. not so crazy about promise land or when he play show simon and simon i think it was called that. he also made a movie when he played a mean, bad, ugly man. something about a man in a uniform.
This reminds me of my childhood.. just like Roseanne, Golden Girls, Full House (TGIF Fridays lol) Ahhh, good ol' 80's and early 90's! What I wouldn't give to go back!
@buffycharmedangel102 I'm right there with you! CBS, NBC and ABC had it going on back in the good ol' days. I'm turning 33 on July 29th and it's just odd how time has flown. SIGHS. Whoever has invented time travel needs to share the wealth. I feel like crying sometimes because what I'd do just for a chance to go back knowing what I do right now. Life would be different that's for sure. ~Steven
I loved the show & I love this theme. It's a shame that this show was cancelled so quickly, if I remember correctly, not long after the start of the Gulf war, that's when Major Dad went off the air. You just don't see "current shows" like this anymore.
This was on air through the Gulf War, and after a little bit. I think it went off air in 93. I was an Army brat, and remember watching this over in Germany.
@luvthoseclips Nah, it was on for a couple of more years after that. I just think CBS wrapped up a lot of its sitcoms around the same time, like Designing Women and the like.
marisa ryan was hot,she was the reason i watched this show.the show sucked

Gunny was kinda hot!
That never occurred to me during this show's original run.
I guess that stands to reason, since I was, like, eight when it started.

This is good, but as I recall, the other theme song they used for that show was even better. Can't remember which season's used which theme.

Shanna Reed was hot in this, and so was Marisa Ryan.I always found Gerald McRaney was a better dramatic actor than one in sitcoms.

I used to love this show. Gerald McRaney makes me wish I was a Marine. Must have done wonders for recruitment.

They would never make a show that portrayed the military in a positive light now.
