heres my opinion...in baseball, there should only be one challenge per series, and if a call is questionable, throw the flag...if the call is upheld, then you lose the challenge for the rest of the series and any further arguements will result in ejection...if its overturned, you keep the flag until your next questionable call

Worst call has to be NCAA hockey playoffs, Michigan vs Miami (Ohio), in overtime, referee blows the whistle a second before Michigan knocks a puck in the net. Goal cannot be awarded, Miami wins in 2ot to go to the Frozen Four in Detroit and shows they definitely did not deserve to be there, losing 7-1 in the semis.

Really no one is perfect. I think these guys are really pressured to make the right call. Sure you can blame them but as tv sports get better replays, referee are given a harder job to get the call right. They should utilize instant replays rules for sports like they do in the NFL. Perhaps they should require that the officials, ref, umps etc answer to the media after each game just like the athletes do .

I'm an umpire for little league and its harder than it looks but its still not that hard. I've seen at least 50 calls this year that i disagreed with at the first look and replay backed it up. I blame it on the angles these guys take. They cant stand behind the action and call the play accurately
I feel that the referees bosses need to just sit down with the at the end of each month, and just have a review, and let them see the bad calls, and no calls that they missed, and let them know that this cannot continue.

Hands down they make AWFUL calls at times.. but in all honesty there has been plenty of times where I see it one way, then when I get the replays slowed down and different angles realize I was wrong.. The only other option is to review EVERY play and that would make for a boring game

Ok for example...runner is out by about a millisecond and you have a coach come out and argue that call...that call can be game 7 world series bottom 9 with the score tied. It can come down to that but as soon as that coach comes out the umpire is quick to eject when its a fair argument
The only way to fix the refereeing issues in my opinion is to start hilding them accountable. Players get ridiculed and criticized heavily for botching late game plays, but when refs screw up and decide games there's ready-made excuses. They're only human? So are the players and coaches, but they still have a job to do. I wish I had a job where when it was okay to perform worse when the pressure was on.

Really no one is perfect. I think these guys are really pressured to make the right call. Sure you can blame them but as tv sports get better replays, referee are given a harder job to get the call right. They should utilize instant replays rules for sports like they do in the NFL. You get 2 coach challenge. That method works great. Provides a fair game along with some suspense

I don't think there is no way to fix the problem. Like u said umpires, & Refs are going to make mistakes. some are very bad I know but that is part of the sport. As for people getting throw out, your right players are getting T's or getting ejected way to quick. It's like the umps & refs love to do that.

Damn, I hate the fucking NBA refs, especially Joey Crawford. He called to techs on Tim Duncan who was sitting on the damn bench laughing in 07' and then a called a foul on Chauncey Billups when he was chasing a guy on a fast break and then the ref, not Chauncey, ran into the guy with the ball and knocked him down and then called a foul on CB. Fuck the NBA refs.

Jr, soccer has the worst referees ever, Ireland got knocked out of the world cup because thierry henry handle the ball not not once but twice and france scored, the referee wasnt sure what to do so he asked a player from the french team did he handle the ball, like WTF he obviously not going to say he didn't. also last world cup referee gave same player 3 yellow card. Soccer has no video refereeing at all, and it badly needs it!

What makes me mad about the refs/umps is not the bad calls. We are all human we all make mistakes, but these clowns try and make themselves the main focus of the games. The guys making the calls need to be held accountable,its unfair when players are fined or worse when they criticise refs umps, but the refs & umps are rarely punished . In MLB umpires inforce calls based on opinion,thats why many umps have different strike zones. I also believe alot of these guys are getting old, hey sports is for the young . Perhaps they should require that the officials, ref, umps etc answer to the media after each game just like the athletes do .

However, guys like Don West are straight up arrogant and want to throw people out, like you said. Remember Mark Buehrle and his two balks? He's never balked anyone in his career before that game except ONCE. Buehrle was thrown out for dropping his glove and not saying anything
Some refs and umps are just assholes, but you can't complain about calls. Because the same sucky umpire is still trying to call a fair game

I'm an umpire for little league and its harder than it looks but its still not that hard. I've seen at least 50 calls this year that i disagreed with at the first look and replay backed it up. I blame it on the angles these guys take. They cant stand behind the action and call the play accurately

I feel that the referees bosses need to just sit down with the at the end of each month, and just have a review, and let them see the bad calls, and no calls that they missed, and let them know that this cannot continue.

the refs have looked pretty bad in all our professional sports leagues. they want to make certain things happen because they know the best way to make more money. they have to realize that angry fans are gonna turn away from watching sports because of this. the refs should be held accountable.

if they do more replays and stuff the calls will be better. but!!! the more times they stop to look at replays the longer the games are like you stated, and the games itself are already kind of lengthy. if it were up to me it would be like gladiators fighting in a bloodbath every game. i love when players and refs argue its sports i wish the refs would be more lenient.

Hands down they make AWFUL calls at times.. but in all honesty there has been plenty of times where I see it one way, then when I get the replays slowed down and different angles realize I was wrong.. The only other option is to review EVERY play and that would make for a boring game

Ok for example...runner is out by about a millisecond and you have a coach come out and argue that call...that call can be game 7 world series bottom 9 with the score tied. It can come down to that but as soon as that coach comes out the umpire is quick to eject when its a fair argument

The only way to fix the refereeing issues in my opinion is to start hilding them accountable. Players get ridiculed and criticized heavily for botching late game plays, but when refs screw up and decide games there's ready-made excuses. They're only human? So are the players and coaches, but they still have a job to do. I wish I had a job where when it was okay to perform worse when the pressure was on.
