going through West africa drumming and ended up in Japanese Taiko. Both are SOOO mesmerizing. ALthough this is the first time i saw NANAZUMAI, I feel certain drum sound and dance is connected to that of Africa. Really. Make Nanazumai move 10 times faster, you will see so much resemblance in West african dance as well. Awesome.
Iwate keeps so many other fascinating folk trads. they still remain the traditional physical rhythms which most japanese lost. it's because many people still work for agriculture there. i wish more people visit there. it's as rich as Okinawa culturally. not too much discovered though.
Hey, this is brillant. I just love the music. I'm currently doing a report on the history of dance, I decided to study Japanese drama/dance. Is it possible for me to download this somewhere?
And even if I can't download, this helped because I'm a very visual person. Do you think you could give me some information on the footing/arm movements used in this dance?
That was simply amazing, what a lot of energy!

I took this vid in Kitakami of Iwate prefecture.
You can use download site to get this vid freely.
Nanazumai parted from Kuromori Kagura (noh dance) 100 years ago.
Kuromori Kagura video:watch?v=0IESUJLZH-0
The step looks as footing for extinguishing a fire.
I think like that.
