  • is that andrew bird on violin? i searched "andrew bird squirrel nut zippers", and this came up, but he isn't tagged.

  • Just because they play some brass instruments doesn't make it ska. This band is a jazz/swing band that incorporate only the elements of ska that silly whiney american 'punk/ska' bands have bought. Real ska is jamaican and rocks the house way better than less than jake...

  • Who do the Zipperoos sound like? They are of course parodying 20's hot jazz BUT in this particular piece they sound almost exactly like the old Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo, who did essentially the same thing back in the 1970's.

  • this is awsome! i literally stumbled omto this band by accident, but there now one of my faves :)

  • @cthulhlu just now? they made it on the radio a lot back in the day. still remember NRK playing loads of "Hell"

  • love this music

  • shades of grossman's tavern, lol---- actually, have not seen these guys live in a bit

  • @fubar50cat I grew up in Grossman's in the 60's. Sister hooker, her best friens Pimp! AND had to take bus, subway, bus, to East York Collegiate! Great ol' days! Now '59 and relaxin'!

  • Is the sax player the guy in Here Come The Mummies known as Mummy Ra?

  • wow! in so many ways!

  • I was there, kicked major bootie. An "acquaintance" of mine accidentally spilled a drink from above onto the drummer. I'd like to apoligize for them. SORRY DRUMMER MAN!!!! It was really an accident you guys (were) ARE great.

  • love

  • Dude. Squirrel Nut Zippers are...Weirdly Delicious... Not mu usual style of music, but for sure one of my new favorites.

  • delicious sound

  • I love how complicated and full their sound is, and how easy they make it look when it's anything but.

  • lovinn ittt. can't imagine how good they sound when your stoned

  • Jimbo!!

  • Is that Don Rolly from the way early Zips? I love this mayhem!

  • Is that Andrew Bird I see hiding behind the brass?

  • Thats what I was thinking!

  • COoL!!!!!!

  • I was standing right next to the camera man in this video. That's my friend squealing between songs. This show ranks near the top of my best life experiences. It was the last time Andrew Bird ever played with the Zippers. Now if only I had seen them with Tom Maxwell...

  • @michelalano I envy you people who knew all about them when I was like...6. I've just discovered them

  • I feel the same way, they formed the year I was born though.

  • was Andrew Bird in this band?

  • nice....ill be seeing them for the first time at the free Santa Monica Pier concert tonight..... nice to see they are legit and people actually know who they are... they sound like a good time w/ wine and cheese : ) .......peAcE!

  • What a glorious bleeding racket! Where is the clarinet player hiding?

  • wow

  • Anyone catch a wee glimpse of Andrew Bird fiddling away behind the horn section?

  • sounds like they were all drunk...including the sound guy!

  • bad sound quality, but i love this song

  • Great group, and I love Bedlam Ballroom

  • the sax player has no feeling at all.. too cold playing for my taste

  • wow man I could not disagree more.

  • Different people portray their emotions differently. You don't have to be crying over what you're playing every time for it to be good.

  • I've been bugging tech support at GoDaddy for ages to tell me what the on hold music is there. Finally today someone could answer me. Toe tapping for sure!

  • i love this band

  • sounded like a bit of a train wreck to me

  • hmmm...haha i dont mean to brag but i am great friends with the bass player...and the other band members...Stu Cole (bass player) is my "bass teacher"

  • not all ska is as lame as you think. just like certain bands in genres have many styles theres the same with ska. early bob marley is ska. traditional to 3rd wave its all different. some bands sound absolutely nothing like what you probably think and more traditional sounds like the zippers open up and find what you like im sure youll love similar music. names of genres are stupid. they tend to steer people away from sounds they like probably like your situation.

  • this my friends is not ska, but swing/big band

think more 20s jazz and not jazz+rock

  • I skank to snz all the time

  • why?

  • Comment removed

  • @Ulubai yup good ol swing/big band ahhhh :)

  • Is that Mike Sops on trombone?

  • It's Dave Wright of The Countdown Quartet

  • Bedlam Ballroom is SUCH an awesome song -- SNZ is SUCH and awesome band!

  • NIceeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. is one of my favorite theme...

  • that may be true, but the zippers arent really ska. they're lots of things. i guess the closest you could get is maybe harlem hot music from the 20s, stephane grappelli, dixieland, european/gypsy jazz

no offense to streetlight manifesto at all though, also a very good band, real high energy

  • sorry, wasnt saying this was ska, just mentioning a style and band that most people that like SNZ enjoy too. i probly should hav specified.

  • rag time, the roaring 20's

  • @fetusclamrod have you heard of rag? Think scot joplin.

  • I like this kind of music. Anyone know what this kind of music is called? Is it big band?

  • If you like this kind of music you'd probably like ska, like streetlight manifesto.

  • Thank you hotsoup4u888. I will look into it.

  • i spy with my eye a bird named andrew.

  • The 1st Zippers show I had the pleasure to mix live! Still doing it!

  • they remind me of White Ghost Shivers

  • SUPERB INDEED...LOVE IT!

  • Bedlam Ballroom is one of my favorite instrumentals. The album version was suberb, it's good to see it reproduced well live.
