@IxGaarAxI agree with you. I hate when people put down others for not getting exactly what the artist meant or act like they know everything because they read about the meaning somewhere. The point is if you don't get your own feelings/meaning from art then you are the fool and also sad.
This is one of the very very few Bright Eyes songs I like, only I love. They are an immaculate group in almost every aspect, this is purely related to preference. But this is absolutely beautiful and I am thankful.
How could you say it isn't about meth addiction? The beautiful part of music like this is that it can relate to anyone's personal life. The meaning can be taken thousands of ways. It's art. It's about addiction, loss, gain, happiness, sadness, life and death. It's all really up to the person listening.
@causticxchris I think there is a clear theme here though. The uncertainty of life and the certainty of death. I also like the funky ending where they praise a reinvention of human life by knowledge and technology.
And to people saying the song is about life and death... life and death is about a lot of things now isnt it?.. that's besides the point though, what's more important is what meaning/s you get out of the writing, not merely understanding what the writer had in mind.
@wapfeffer love how you're arguing with a single word. he/she didn't even make a statement! unless you mean ainmire in which case its not an impossible philosophical theory, but probably untrue.
@misstube420 I love you :) oh and happy birthday Conor :)

By far the greatest Bright Eyes song. There is nothing else they have written that comes close to competing with this song.

there is a difference between having a spiritual life and a religious life. just like 'religous' music and music with a 'spiritual' message
