  • Trolololol Lololol lolol jaja, kinda reminded me of it. Beautiful piece of music

  • A brilliant bass. Phenomenal performance. Outstanding actor playing songs.

  • in my humble opinion, after Schubert, Moussorgsky is probably one of the greatest song writers...his songs are so powerful, so poignant, so penetrating, so tender, so yearning, so sad, so thoughtful, so melodious, and so unforgettable, even if you are like me and can't understand a word of Russian.

  • In my opinion THIS is the best version on YouTube. Nesterenko is one of the greatest singers on the Earth!

  • Great artist, amazing voice, trueborn actor.

  • i had to tell you that I was ironic if you haven't realized.

  • Very nice, you donate much of your irons to great Soviet Russia for to make tank, plane, gun, we give you a many thanks

  • I have a Russian lyric

I drop bowl of borscht on foot

    My mother find out quick

She find heavy Siberian named Ivan

    Ivan beat me in butt

    With butt of Moisin-Nagant

  • what a humour...

    wow...

    ...

  • I am glad you like, I can make a many more Russian lyric for much enjoyment

  • Who can tell me please where I can find the lyrics in Russian for this amazing song???

  • gomongio, I have the sheet music with the lyrics in Russian if you're interested.

  • @CranialnerveVIII CranialnerveVIII, yes I'm interested in having the lyrics in Russian ,,, not necessarily the sheet music :)

  • In "Faust" Goethe ))) Words for this song is russian translate of one of the Mephistofel's monologue. Monologue, of course, about the flea...try to find :)

  • The sight of the Flea (in my own rhyme)

    Was never for me,

For what what put me in fear,

T'was He'd jump in my ear.

  • Great performance and voice! The song is totally ridiculous and lovable and quite a masterpiece on Mussorgsky's part. Lawrence Tibbett did a fantastic performance in English and should be heard by anyone who loves this genre.

  • This is simply outstanding. Nesterenko shows superb equilibrium between the beauty and the insanity of the song.

  • This is the best version of "song of the flea"after Shalyapin`s interpretation, I`ve ever heard.

  • listen to CHRISTOFF....

  • That guy should do a guest spot on The Muppet Show with that face lol.

  • hey you, retarded. are you conscious that you just have heared one of the greateste singers ever?!

  • This is one of the greatest singers??

    Lol...

  • Yes, he is one of the most powerful basses of this century. You should listen to him sing a more appealing and beautiful piece...Then you will see.

  • Christoff recorded them all at the height of his powers, they are assembled in the new Emi "Best of Boris Christoff"

  • It is one of the Mephistopholes serenades, written late in his life. It stands as a member of this set of songs and not an opera.

  • was this just a random song mussorgsky wrote, or was it part of an opera?

  • I think it was just a song. I don't know if it was originally intended as being part of an opera as with a few other Mussorgsky songs, but I don't think so.

  • @Gabba02 It is part of Musorgsky's song cycle "The Nursery".

  • @Gabba02 Well, if it ever was a part of an opera, it would have to be Faust and the character Mefistofele, as it is actually taken from the famous scene from Goethe's work...

  • @abbeast22 This is one song of a cycle called The Nursery. It's based on Goethe's Faust, in which Mephistopheles sings a song about a king who found a flea that amused him, made it a member of the royal court and treated it like a son. The flea invites its friends in and the ladies of the court find themselves infested with fleas.
