They made a small SUV, gave it some bling-bling factor, some cheesy red and blue interior lighting, offered it with two-wheel drive and slapped a Land Rover badge on the grille. Then they cut their balls off completely by shoving Range Rover lettering across the bonnet. They've really sold their soul to the devil with this car and I think that many toffee nosed, gilet cladded fans of Land Rover are going to look elsewhere the next time they plan on forking out for an exclusive SUV.
I'd like to know what they're smoking at Motor Trend magazine and if I can have some.
In the new "suv of the year competition", they listed the Unlimited Sahara, hardtop AUTOMATIC transmission, as being .01 seconds slower to 60 mph than the TWO DOOR MANUAL with a friggin soft top. Are they out of their minds???? The 4 door unlimited is almost 1000 lbs heavier than the 2 door.
It blows my mind that Motor Trend could make such an error, in not only their magazine, but also on their site.
WTF? MT says it sets the "trend" for the next decade. What does that make the 99' Isuzu VehiCross, at least it had real off-road cred., 3.5 V6, trick torque distribution, high-tech shocks... granted the interior was taken from the Trooper... but the exterior will look better than the Evoque, even after a decade... FAIL MT
You know if you put a picture of an explorer right beside it you will notice that there is only minor differences and badging differences of course but motor trend dogged the explorer like it was the biggest pos that ford made since the tempo but honor the land rover when they have the only minor differences in looks but the same powertrain?
The Evoque is one of the best looking SUV's on the market, next to the Audi Q7, but I´d rather take the Acura MDX because its fun to drive, SH-AWD, great confort, and 304 HP.
@TheBadBuffalo I took the rear view mirror out of my windshield and just use the side mirrors in my cars. I find the inside mirror to be a judgement failure and the outside mirrors much more true. I am a professional driver btw. If you are towing something with the SUV does the rear window make a difference? Trucks/ lorries don't have rear windows and neither do Lamborghinis 8-)
I'm jumping in. My wife and I both have the new gen Rover Sports. She's NA and I'm S/C. My parents both have Sports. Both S/C. We have had multiple Rovers before these. They've been more reliable than my Infinitis and Nissans, and why don't you check how they're depreciating? Check the Sport! Go ahead. Percentage-wise, they're great.
Don't just write it off for being too much money for you, personally. To each their own. Drive your Jeeps if you want. I'll take the Rovers, thanks.

Motor Trend awarded the PT Cruiser best car in 2001 for it's bold styling yet it ended up being the biggest unreliable POS on the road. I really do hope the Evoque is not a money pit like other Land Rovers because it does look stunning.

The roadhandling course should be run through with each car having at least three people in it...one of whom should be at least 240lbs. Again MT, why no snow test? Half the country drives through snow.
Motor Trend made the right choice. Not only is it one of the best looking SUV's on the planet, it does everything well or above average. The handling and braking is great, and the technology is good. It needs a speed increase in the navi interface but it is still a breath of fresh air compared to some other systems. Great Job Land Rover and Tata!
Motor Trend is looking for a "game-changer", the Range Rover Evoque is that game changer. By having the Evoque with its new shape, a new audience to Land Rover could be coming. So, BMW X3, Lexus RX, Mercedes M Class, Audi Q4 -- look out. I like this one and with its price range in the Mid $50K mark, this is a game changer.

@mrdarkknight First of all the BMW has a pretty weak interior....the interior design is ugly and needs a serious refresh. Thats why I think the new 3 series is a breath of fresh air. For example look at the ML here, it's all class inside but when you look inside the X3 it's like....what happened? The Evoque has a sweet interior, and apparently a high performance version is already on the way. There are reports of a 300HP Evoque from a while now, I'm sure it will be official sooner then later.

Is this thing capable of towing my boat? Nope. Can I haul my four place ATV trailer with it? Nope. Can I tow my snowmobile trailer with it? Nope. Can I take my three kids and the wife and any of the above on any kind of trip with this thing? Nope. What exactly can this thing do that you couldn't do with a clapped out ten year old Forester? Nothing. The only SUV on their list that I could really do any serious towing with and still have room for the kids, wife and luggage is the Durango.
Although it's a compelling package, I can't wait for someone to come along and do it better. Better, as in cheaper. Any other car maker won't have to include leather and wood because of their traditions and namesake. Hopefully that gives us a capable and affordable competitor.

A Crossover is...a sports utility vehicle that is built on a car frame with little if any off-road capability. HMMMMM that just doesn't sound like the Evoque to me.
The video was very nice to watch, but I'm disappointed with your choice. This is not at all what I call a good-looking vehicle, it will suffer huge depreciation, the service costs will be thru the roof, and it will hardly ever go off road. I think it was a waste of all the engineering power Land Rover has, but I imagine it will sell to many a non-enthusiast who bought a 3series BMW 10yrs ago, all just to impress the peers.

Motor Trend made the right choice. Not only is it one of the best looking SUV's on the planet, it does everything well or above average. The handling and braking is great, and the technology is good. It needs a speed increase in the navi interface but it is still a breath of fresh air compared to some other systems. Great Job Land Rover and Tata!

Motor Trend is looking for a "game-changer", the Range Rover Evoque is that game changer. By having the Evoque with its new shape, a new audience to Land Rover could be coming. So, BMW X3, Lexus RX, Mercedes M Class, Audi Q4 -- look out. I like this one and with its price range in the Mid $50K mark, this is a game changer.

@mrdarkknight First of all the BMW has a pretty weak interior....the interior design is ugly and needs a serious refresh. Thats why I think the new 3 series is a breath of fresh air. For example look at the ML here, it's all class inside but when you look inside the X3 it's like....what happened? The Evoque has a sweet interior, and apparently a high performance version is already on the way. There are reports of a 300HP Evoque from a while now, I'm sure it will be official sooner then later.

Is this thing capable of towing my boat? Nope. Can I haul my four place ATV trailer with it? Nope. Can I tow my snowmobile trailer with it? Nope. Can I take my three kids and the wife and any of the above on any kind of trip with this thing? Nope. What exactly can this thing do that you couldn't do with a clapped out ten year old Forester? Nothing. The only SUV on their list that I could really do any serious towing with and still have room for the kids, wife and luggage is the Durango.

Although it's a compelling package, I can't wait for someone to come along and do it better. Better, as in cheaper. Any other car maker won't have to include leather and wood because of their traditions and namesake. Hopefully that gives us a capable and affordable competitor.

@xPLHOOLIGANx I disliked it a lot when I first saw the concept...My thought was, wtf is Range Rover doing? They're losing focus of what a Range Rover is... And it does look really different but it's grown on me. If I had 50 grand to blow on a small SUV this would be the car; it's good looking in a new and different way, it's very well equipped, and it lives up to Range Rover capabilities. There really isn't anything better on the market... Sure the BMW X3 is a safe choice, but do you want safe?

It ain't an asphault princess like you stereotypical idiots assume. Why... else do you think Land Rover put a 4WD system on it? It's a work of art that is made to be on- and off-highway. The video was very nice to watch, but I'm disappointed with your choice. This is not at all what I call a good-looking vehicle, it will suffer huge depreciation, the service costs will be thru the roof, and it will hardly ever go off road. I think it was a waste of all the engineering power Land Rover has, but I imagine it will sell to many a non-enthusiast who bought a 3series BMW 10yrs ago, all just to impress the peers.
