Armour-clad special-ops guy or something? Does this guy even understand what this game represents? This is about as real to a real-life scenario as a video game can get. It's not fucking Soap and Capt. Price taking out an entire high tech Russian Silo installation full of 200+ strong SpetNaz commandos. In real-life you don't get in a punch up with a dweeb, then fight a street brawler, to then soon after take on a WBA heavy-weight title holder.....This game was trying it's best to emulate.
I loved FarCry but FarCry 2... OMG, one of the most boring games I have ever played. Sure, it looks great but driving from place to place is anything but interesting or exciting, missions are repetitive and those diamonds and jammed rifles and saving methods... bad, just plain bad ....

Far Cry 2, has a great original story, great graphics, immersion and realism, a proper open world to play in. It feels like an actual war-zone and it's just plain fun and addictive. But I hate with a passion the lack of a radar, the save points only at safe-houses, the shit fast-travelling system and instead of making your characters bout of Malaria an interesting/dynamic plot point, it's just a complete nuisance to the player!!..But despite all it's still easily one of my favourite games!:)

I honestly still don't understand why people hate this game. My opinion is that it is incredibly immersive, the story was realistic, AI was superb in my book, and generally, it felt like on of those wars you would see on CNN, small but brutal. I loved it to death, even starring into the sunset holding a kalashnikov was mesmerizing.
Oh, and that annoying issue with respawning checkpoints? Just slow the fuck down and and make it fun! This is a game, not a fetching sim.

@Koenstuurwold0 Maybe it isn't the game, maybe it's your play-style that makes it seem boring. Why do you think the developers included the "same drive/shoot/escape" plan for most missions you partake? Because unlike games like COD or Half Life (don't get me wrong, I love the HL series), you choose how the mission will go out. Why have your loadout always AK-Star 45- RPG, or something similar, for every mission? Why not change it up every time? Take my advice and go for another playthrough.

i honestly felt there was little immersion, i couldnt stand the voice acting where the actors sounded like they were dying to get their paycheck and have no emotion whatsoever, there was nothing to do in such a huge gameworld, and you get attcked constantly when trying to explore.

I think the weak part of FC2 is the multiplayer, you can't kill somebody who is running, even if you aim where he goes, weapons kills randomly etc... IMO I prefer playing FC2 solo campaign.

Good game with a few flaws you get used and the setting is amazing, if you like games that are unique try it out, hopefully Far Cry 3 will remove all the flaws, better graphics, amazing story and setting and just feel like Far Cry 2... I can't wait.
I can't fucking believe people hate this game. Not all shooters are about running around like an unstoppable fucking moron that can shoot everything in sight. Far Cry 2 tried to tell you all that you would get your ass kicked in a situation like this, but I guess people don't want challenge, but instead, generic chaotic action :/
And it looks like Far Cry 3 is going to be roughly the same. They want "a sense of constant danger". A sense of constant danger is dull. The reason dangerous stuff is fun is because it's unpredictable. That's the whole point.
He's being generous with an 8.8. Personally I'd have given it about a 7. It has the makings of a brilliant game, but it's just unfinished. There was no exploration, no discovery. You'd know what you'd find, dudes shooting at you. Every single fucking second. Combat has to be broken up (and with DIFFERENT ENEMIES) or it gets boring, no matter how many guns you put into the mix.
And would it kill them to have more vehicles? Or a reputation system that actually works?

This was my most anticipated game of 2008, and when I bought it, I was disappointed when I finished it. Missions and tasks just felt repetitive, and driving to each destination was a chore. Another problem that frustrated me was the fact that the voice acting was so quiet that I had to constantly turn up the volume, but when I was in a fire fight, the gunfire was deafening. There was an option to adjust the volume, but no individual adjustments for voice, sfx, music etc.what's the point of that?
The singleplayer was not very immersive for me. First of all, yes, the objective-updating map. Second of all - the biggest issue - were outposts (and re-appearing enemies). I just massacred a whole outpost, turned out I went the wrong direction, turned... Magically, it already has two vehicles, re-filled ammo, re-built shelter and five guards. I mean, why can't you give it, say, an hour or two (in-game) to fill up? Third of all - no destructible environments (at least not a lot).

1.no silent snipers (except crappy dart rifle!)
2.enemies spot you in less then a second
3.no civilions? really?
4. you can obviusly repair your trashed car with a few cranks of a wrench
5.after destroying an outpost, you shouldnt have to think twice about taking the shortcut to your mission cuz of some unrealistic outpost with infinite enemies, they should never respawn back.
I don't get why everyone thinks it's so realistic. It says, for example in the manual, the Makarov takes about 4 shots to the torso to bring them down. The reality is that it could take an entire magazine. The enemies can aborb bullets like a meat sponge...

i loved this game. true it could be frustrating, particularly the malaria and all the guard outposts, but it was really immersive, which made it feel really unique in the fps genre.
I tried this game from the beginning 3 times. I could never get past the first few missions. The driving mechanics are generic. This is a problem when the game has you driving more than half of the time. There's too many shadows. You can barely see the enemy most of the time. Constant enemy respawns. The dreaded "gun condition" bullshit. It's just a frustrating experience. The game is technically well executed, though. Sound and visuals are nice.

I wanted to like Far Cry 2, but I just couldn't. You can't explore the open world without being shot at every minute, which sucks. If there was regenerating health, I wouldnt care as much, but because you used med kits to heal and you go back to your last save when you die, its a chore. There isnt auto-saving, and saving takes a while. The guns fall apart way too fast, and your car breaks down after being shot at a few times, making you get out and... well... Far Cry 2 just becomes a chore.
I agree. Yes it has a massive story and all but thats part of the problem.
You go out to a new area and get shot. Then you go and find some health syringes. Then your weapon has fallen apart and you need to get back to your safehouse. Then your vehicle is destroyed by that guy with a pistol.
Rinse, repeat several hundred times. Far Cry is tiring.
@TheSmashBadger I completely agree with you, I just got it recently, not even bothering to look up player reviews and instead looked up just company reviews like Ign and Xplay and I was extremely disappointed. Just two much work to play a game. I went into the game thinking OMG this is like Cod and Fallout 3 combined, and It was just as slow as fallout 3, but in fallout 3 I liked doing the work, not in Far Cry 2. Extremely disappointing game.

Your a bad ass mo fo just trying to survive in this extremely hostile environment. Say in GTA your told to travel to the other side of the map to kill some guy. Sometimes its just a pain in the ass. In this game traveling around the map is like a mission in its self.
For some reason I always hated this game, but since 4 days ago my mind is completely changed :). This game is fucking amazing!, its just the first 1 hour that sucks. But once you get whats going on and get going this game is fucking epic :)

I like this game, because i've played it for SO long, but I've been playing lots of Call of Duty. The controls on COD seem more fluent and it flows a bit better. Going back to this was hard because the controls were more blockish...
Bought the game for a few pounds, however I'm utterly dissapointed. The map is so big that it is a disadvantage; It takes HOURS to go anyplace, you do not have a fast travel (except buses that are scattered across the map) and the unregenerating health is kinda annoying.
I beat this game, and it's pretty good. my biggest complaint is how much you have to travel. of course in open world games you travel a lot but in something like grand theft auto, you travel through a world filled with NPCs, buildings, cars, etc. in here, you travel through nothing but trees, sand, and guard posts

Their focus is on these monotonous 2-dimensional army games in which the target is either a Middle Easterner or like in this game, African. I want to play a game in which I create a genocide against as many white men and women as I possibly can. If there are people of Middle Eastern or African descent who can recommend the game I outlined above, hit me up.
As already said, a lot of war games are based on wars going on now.
If you want to shoot white people, there are much games where you can shoot white ppl so that's kinda weird.... I enjoy the long travel, games today have graphics so beautiful and life like they are fun to just sit and look at. The realism in this game was fun to.
The amount of traveling in this game just turns me away from it, and I enjoy open world games. I finished RDR and almost all GTA's, but for some reason this game feels REALLY bland.

I quite enjoyed farcry 2. It was a game that didn't hold you hand the entire way through. It gave you a large area to explore and I had fun with it.

Good game with a few flaws you get used and the setting is amazing, if you like games that are unique try it out, hopefully Far Cry 3 will remove all the flaws, better graphics, amazing story and setting and just feel like Far Cry 2... I can't wait.

Far Cry 2 tried to tell you all that you would get your ass kicked in a situation like this, but I guess people don't want challenge, but instead, generic chaotic action :/

And it looks like Far Cry 3 is going to be roughly the same. They want "a sense of constant danger". A sense of constant danger is dull. The reason dangerous stuff is fun is because it's unpredictable. That's the whole point.

He's being generous with an 8.8. Personally I'd have given it about a 7. It has the makings of a brilliant game, but it's just unfinished. There was no exploration, no discovery. You'd know what you'd find, dudes shooting at you. Every single fucking second. Combat has to be broken up (and with DIFFERENT ENEMIES) or it gets boring, no matter how many guns you put into the mix.
And would it kill them to have more vehicles? Or a reputation system that actually works?
It could have been so good.

- your car breaks down and you need to fix it every time
- after you kill everyone and take a guard post, the magicly appear at the guard post again

This was my most anticipated game of 2008, and when I bought it, I was disappointed when I finished it. Missions and tasks just felt repetitive, and driving to each destination was a chore. Another problem that frustrated me was the fact that the voice acting was so quiet that I had to constantly turn up the volume, but when I was in a fire fight, the gunfire was deafening. There was an option to adjust the volume, but no individual adjustments for voice, sfx, music etc.what's the point of that?

The singleplayer was not very immersive for me. First of all, yes, the objective-updating map. Second of all - the biggest issue - were outposts (and re-appearing enemies). I just massacred a whole outpost, turned out I went the wrong direction, turned... Magically, it already has two vehicles, re-filled ammo, re-built shelter and five guards. I mean, why can't you give it, say, an hour or two (in-game) to fill up? Third of all - no destructible environments (at least not a lot).

1.no silent snipers (except crappy dart rifle!)
2.enemies spot you in less then a second
3.no civilions? really?
4. you can obviusly repair your trashed car with a few cranks of a wrench
5.after destroying an outpost, you shouldnt have to think twice about taking the shortcut to your mission cuz of some unrealistic outpost with infinite enemies, they should never respawn back.

I don't get why everyone thinks it's so realistic. It says, for example in the manual, the Makarov takes about 4 shots to the torso to bring them down. The reality is that it could take an entire magazine. The enemies can aborb bullets like a meat sponge...

Yes, keyword: DIFFERENT!!! Every single FPS out there is the same thing. Farcry 2 takes it to another level, but kids hate this game because it's not like Call of Duty and they have to spend 5 minutes driving to a spot.
By the way, the graphics are beautiful and I love explosions <3

i loved this game. true it could be frustrating, particularly the malaria and all the guard outposts, but it was really immersive, which made it feel really unique in the fps genre.

I tried this game from the beginning 3 times. I could never get past the first few missions. The driving mechanics are generic. This is a problem when the game has you driving more than half of the time. There's too many shadows. You can barely see the enemy most of the time. Constant enemy respawns. The dreaded "gun condition" bullshit. It's just a frustrating experience. The game is technically well executed, though. Sound and visuals are nice.

I wanted to like Far Cry 2, but I just couldn't. You can't explore the open world without being shot at every minute, which sucks. If there was regenerating health, I wouldnt care as much, but because you used med kits to heal and you go back to your last save when you die, its a chore. There isnt auto-saving, and saving takes a while. The guns fall apart way too fast, and your car breaks down after being shot at a few times, making you get out and... well... Far Cry 2 just becomes a chore.

I agree. Yes it has a massive story and all but thats part of the problem.
You go out to a new area and get shot. Then you go and find some health syringes. Then your weapon has fallen apart and you need to get back to your safehouse. Then your vehicle is destroyed by that guy with a pistol.
Rinse, repeat several hundred times. Far Cry is tiring.

@TheSmashBadger I completely agree with you, I just got it recently, not even bothering to look up player reviews and instead looked up just company reviews like Ign and Xplay and I was extremely disappointed. Just two much work to play a game. I went into the game thinking OMG this is like Cod and Fallout 3 combined, and It was just as slow as fallout 3, but in fallout 3 I liked doing the work, not in Far Cry 2. Extremely disappointing game.

@TheSmashBadger What? I never played far cry before I picked this game up only last week and am loving it. Being shot at every five minuets is what makes it great for me. Your a bad ass mo fo just trying to survive in this extremely hostile environment. Say in GTA your told to travel to the other side of the map to kill some guy. Sometimes its just a pain in the ass. In this game traveling around the map is like a mission in its self.

-Borderlands is a well-loved, semi-open worlded, 4 player coop, RPG-FPS. (Replay value 7/10 different characters to pick)
-Far Cry 2 is a huge open-worlded, action FPS, that offers you many ways to reach and complete your objective. (Replay value 4/10 it's a long game)
-BF:BC2 has a humorous campaign and great multiplayer, but the amount of people playing depends on what platform you're getting it on.

@CryptiCxReapeR Borderlands is great, and is ten times better if you've got friends to play it with.
I'd wait the extra 1-2 weeks for BF3 if I'm honest, and just buy either Borderlands or Far Cry 2 to fill the gap, they should be very cheap now.
If it was me I'd buy Far Cry 2, because I've played Borderlands a LOT and it ran a little dry of things to do, the quests are quite repetitive.

I like this game, because i've played it for SO long, but I've been playing lots of Call of Duty. The controls on COD seem more fluent and it flows a bit better. Going back to this was hard because the controls were more blockish...

Bought the game for a few pounds, however I'm utterly dissapointed. The map is so big that it is a disadvantage; It takes HOURS to go anyplace, you do not have a fast travel (except buses that are scattered across the map) and the unregenerating health is kinda annoying.

I beat this game, and it's pretty good. my biggest complaint is how much you have to travel. of course in open world games you travel a lot but in something like grand theft auto, you travel through a world filled with NPCs, buildings, cars, etc. in here, you travel through nothing but trees, sand, and guard posts

Why don't white people make games in which I'm allowed to kill and take the dignity away from other white people? Their focus is on these monotonous 2-dimensional army games in which the target is either a Middle Easterner or like in this game, African. I want to play a game in which I create a genocide against as many white men and women as I possibly can.
