for the anhydride: how does the length of the R groups affect which side will be the leaving group following a nucleophillic reaction? In other words, does a long carbon chain (no double bonds) help stabilize the leaving group?

@Dreadin88 actually a chain with more double bonds would spread the -ve charge.
