@ Mr02camaro that kinda does not make sense.... hahahha before there was any cars or even coal-powered trains. the plants were still fine, we would not be here if nothing was fine. besides there is more C02 in the air for the plants to have anyway!

that hydrogen equinox my dad was able to drive at the atlanta internation auto show, but he never did, he drove the regullar equinox, the traverse and the camaro ss! Cool, GM rules man, Eco freaks need to go fuck themself on their toliet, I STILL LOVE GM NO MATTER WHAT!!!!!!!!!
I was A car sale's man for over 18 years before this economy closed our doors and I have never treated a person that way I tried to tell the customer everything I knew about the car,
rather the customer bought a car or not they always appreciated my honesty and helpfulness.
this guy is one of the one's that give car salesman a bad name.
but seems to me he's following orders from GM to detour people from the volt, looks like a EV1 remake to me.
conspiracys, one after another, they fail. largely because of lack of evidence, this guy is asking a SALES REP, not an engineer, a sales rep to define every inner working of a car that isnt even developed yet. completely ridiculous. Also, it we are certainly doomed, why dont you do something about it instead of just complain?
I had the exact same experience when I came across a Norwegian "Th!nk " electric car at a show.... the guy at the stand knew NOTHING about the car's internals other than it was an electric..!!
I think that when you are displaying something that is supposed to be "new technology", and "ground breaking"... .. you better do your homework and read up on what you are presenting...
But then again,,,, the guy might just have had a bad day and be fed up with answering "stupid questions" ;)
You know what? I would seriously endorse the Volt if not for one thing. It still burns gas! Goes 40 miles before a gas engine kicks in? Give me a break. I go almost 30 miles on my ebike with no pedaling with batteries from china. You're telling me this auto giant can't make anything better? The volt is going to be a dead cell. Of course the blame is going to be "blah blah, batteries, lack of demand, too expensive to produce..."
This is so the oil companies are only slightly shut out. The car will still need gas, oil changes and all the maintenance items addressed, so their think is a little bit of both worlds.
You sounded quite excited about their product, GM had been trying to drum up interest in the Volt, you'd think they'd have been more happy about someone asking lots of questions.
@liveoilfree i love V8 power dont stop GM. i take all my catalytic converters off all my cars to do my part to save the plants. plants need C02 to live
Yeah good point, and we feel that our country is some how different enough from europe and asia to the point that we need a different type of transportation, and in truth the public transportation systems over there would work here if they were put in place,
Why is everyone blaming GM for screwing the "world"? maybe they screwed us americans, but you worldly folks need to start asking why in europe where gas has always been more expensive, why hasnt any european or asian countries developed a all electric vehicle? Stop blaming the u.s and u.s companies for scewing the whole world, tell all these companies that think their superior to build a ev, 15 years ago, get real or shut up
By higher gas prices, Europe and Japan have avoided the problem that we have, which is slavery to oil-dictators. We don't have much commuter trains, and GM SUV are gas-guzzlers. 12 mpg is not world-class, sort of a joke.
I'm with liveoilfree, I've been to The Netherlands and Germany, you can pretty much go anywhere in a metro area via tram/train and possibly walking a few city blocks... Why doesn't America be more like Europe and build trams and trains? Cause this country founded the combustion engine and want us to give all our money to the oil companies....
obviously it is all GM's fault. GM should put in a national infrastructure. And they should refuse to sell large cars so that people who oh, i dont know, need to tow a trailer, can just buy foreign cars instead right? A side note, I dont see any toyota full size hybrids out there.....
Yeah it's the American dream to go "camping" in an RV or trailer, and have BIG things because everything here is BIG because fat asses need BIGGER things. And we all know America likes it's cake and it's "reality" TV...
That is exactly what happened, but with those at least, there will still be gasoline sale and the price will quadruple so they can compensate for the loss in sales.
GM put themselves where they are now. They kept the gaz guzzlers going by listening to Big Oil, but Big Oil never told them that gas was going to skyrocket making consumers not want their "guzzlers" anymore. Big Oil stabbed them and all of us in the back. I can't wait for the day that Big Oil collapses and stays there. To hell with Texas and Bush.
I will never, EVER, buy a vehicle from GM! GM bitched and complained about how much they lost with the EV-1 program, however, every single person who leased the car was willing to pay an exorbinant price to keep their vehicle; This would have covered most of the loss. Rather than doing so, GM had all the cars crushed, say a small few for museums. WTF!? HEY GM! Have fun in bankrupcy with Hummer! Helpful hint. Hummer Hybrid with possibly more than 8mpg. I'll stick with Japanese. They last longer.
I noticed how stupid the GM spokesperson was when the guy with the camera was asking questions. What a fucking fool this guy was, why would GM hire a dumb fuck to represent them and their new technologies? Maybe they just don't realize how fucked up they are. GM makes me sick. I'm sick of GM. here's an idea, either build cars that people want and need, ie electric cars and full plug in hybrids, or stop making cars, dammit. and stop using cheep parts in your cars and hire a smarter spokesperson!
The GM stand was designed to make you feel all warm and fuzzy knowing that your auto industry is striving and doing great things for the environment and humanity . . . . . but!
Its all bullshit and everyone knows it GM.
Its 2008 . . . why cant I buy a 100% electric car and take it home and plug it in? Why not?
I agree, it's rediculous....computers have been getting faster and cheaper every year, but somehow it's to difficult to create a car that runs on a giant recharageable battery? But GM isn't the only automaker that's out there, so hopefully another automaker will come along and create a great fully electric or hybrid gasoline/electric car.
New car dealerships make little money off of car sales. Typically they mark up the car one to two percent. They make a lot of money from ripping you off when the service your car. When you service an IC car, there are alot of things they do that are exclusive to IC cars. You get new oil, new oil and gas filters, new timing belt, greasing, transmission fluid, spark plugs and engine tuning. Electric cars are much simpler. Batteries and engine. You never change the oil, no timing or spark plugs.
this will probably work out worse for GM in the long run. When new fuel technologies are put in place, GM will have the reputation from the EV1 incident. So this leaves other car companies with no conspiracy theories to reap the benefits
"GM fought desperately to avoid building the EV1, tried to sabotage it by bad batteries, and spent millions fighting to kill the Zero Emission Vehicle Mandate and crush the Electric car."
You can't be serious, are you? ::laughs hysterically::
GM built something that was too good and was stupid enough to release it and then make a public ass out of itself by yanking it. Now they're hurtling towards bankruptcy at light speed. This country is owned by Israel and the Saudis, two countries we need to tell to go f*ck themselves, along with all the USA a**tards that love the oil economy.
Ah yes, the bitter attack. Better bitter than selfish, elitist and deluded. Gee, why have a vendetta against GM. They just aided the oil companies in destroying mass transit and ruining the american landscape, then attached us at the aorta to the middle east and Israel, and now our boys are dying in a war for their malfeasance AND PERSONAL GAIN. Nah, no reason to be bitter.

It's not a sports car without a defining exhaust note. The low growl of a V8, the high-pitched symphony of a Ferrari, the buzzing hornets of a sport compact... the Tesla literally has nothing. So, what's the point?
maybe i'm missing something...but isn't the point of driving a fast car to go FAST?
going ev ISN'T following the crowd...too many idiots don't understand how ev work.
btw, the ferrari v8 sounds like ass. porsche sounds like a diesel truck, and four cylinders don't sound nice at all. american v8, inline 6, and maybe v12 sound good...the rest are crap.
i love corvette. in fact, i had a conversation with Corvette design manager Kirk Bennion about a 35 mpg Corvette.
I'm afraid nothing is what it seems. Suppose we would have $4 gas with electric cars all over the road? Land of the Free? Free-market capatalism? You must be thinking about someplace else--not here. The only road we're on is the road to ruin.
Even the car show reps are assholes. Why is almost everyone who works for, and/or drives a GM is such a prick all the time. Keep huffing you're own farts GM, you're shitty company will go down soon enough.
GM wanted to do something but had their arm twisted. Stempel was shown the road and Heckson has had 11-digit profits every quarter since. Do the math...commrades
Maybe the GM-guy is not a member of the engineering team. So he really has no information to get out of him. If you approach him with suspicion and treat him as if he should know everything about the engineering and corporate future plans of this display model I think you almost give the guy too much credit. He may know nothing about the car other than the brochures he is passing out. He may be afraid if he flips the hood and allows you use your recording equipment that he will get fired.
Someone from Tesla was able to get pictures under the hood in an earlier show and GM admits it's just a rolling display model although they wanted to give the impression they had been working on it for a long time. some photos here:
zev. dk/ misc/ TED5. jpg
zev. dk/ misc/ TED6. jpg
it's a small sepex motor presumably running on low voltage. top speed around 10mph. I spoke to GM comm. and he said that is normal for style concepts irrespective of motor type. so it's electric by chance
The Volt was damage control for who killed the electric car and they got locked into a course of action from then on. too many promises have been made to come back from now. What we can do now is help keep things moving by showing interest. I think we should support the good things they do like the volt even thought they can't quite admit to killing the EV1 yet. Think of GM as a problem child, be supportive but firm. like deep throat said: they are not very bright guys and things got out of hand
hi Doug. it's interesting to see your videos where you ask questions like an impatient child which is good :)
I actually think they are serious about the Volt even though they can't quite believe it themselves. I think you read too much consciousness into their resistance to EVs. Even Ferrari has now said they'll make a hybrid and I set that up as victory criteria a while back. I think the writing was on the wall when GM announced the Volt. it's over. it's done. we won :)
Well yeah, that's just anti GM propaganda. The H2 uses the same platform as the last generation Tahoe, but that doesn't really mean anything. Aside from the frame which you mentioned, they are very different vehicles. They have very different drive systems, suspensions, interiors, and obviously the body.
If you're going to compare vehicles by platform, then the Lexus RX hybrid is "really just" a Toyota Camry.
I wonder what it's coefficient of drag is. It looks like the did not bring that down much below 0.3 with the profile that looks like a Dodge Magnum or like a squashed Suburban. Are the designers afraid that we won't buy cars unless they look mean and power hungry instead of sleek like a UFO or jet fighter?
GM said the Volt performed horribly in the wind tunnel, and they have since redesigned it. If you look around on the Volt fan sites you can see a sneak peek at what the new one looks like.
If they didn't even know wind resistence facts (the EV1 was the most efficient production car ever) that means they are IGNORANT, and have a lot of nasty surprises coming up.
The funny thing is that they don't have a battery pack on display, that is after all the main component other than the electric moter that sets it apart from ICE's. Strange.
The guy wiping the car down seems somewhat annoyed with you Doug, it's as if they pass out memo's to all employees with kind of a "do not talk to or discuss products or company policy with" list of you and fellow activists. lol. Probobly with pictures of you guys and everything. Why are they so cruel? lol.
The Volt concept has three golf cart batteries and a soap bucket under the hood and has a top speed of 5 MPH. The Tahoe hybrid costs $50,000 and gets 21 MPG. Their hydrogen SUV costs over one million dollars and emits as much CO2 as an average car because the H2 comes from fossil fuel. And they had a working electric car.
@ Mr02camaro that kinda does not make sense.... hahahha before there was any cars or even coal-powered trains. the plants were still fine, we would not be here if nothing was fine. besides there is more C02 in the air for the plants to have anyway!

I think the writing was on the wall when GM announced the Volt. it's over. it's done. we won :)

It's all over the internet, "H2 Hummer and Tahoe are the same truck" just a bit UGLIER.
Note how this goof doesn't understand that a true ZEV has no emissions. The EV1 had a coefficient of drag of .19, that's why it got such good range.
liveoilfree 4 years ago
I'd like to point out the Tahoe does not use the same platform at the H2. The Tahoe H's platform is all new.

"H2 Hummer and Tahoe the same truck" all over the internet. The Tahoe H probably uses the same frame.
liveoilfree 4 years ago
Well yeah, that's just anti GM propaganda. The H2 uses the same platform as the last generation Tahoe, but that doesn't really mean anything. Aside from the frame which you mentioned, they are very different vehicles. They have very different drive systems, suspensions, interiors, and obviously the body.
If you're going to compare vehicles by platform, then the Lexus RX hybrid is "really just" a Toyota Camry.

Good point!

LovePontiac 4 years ago
Yes, I've seen the sneak peaks. I guess we all patiently have to wait till they're out in a couple of years.
milofonbil 4 years ago
If they didn't even know wind resistence facts (the EV1 was the most efficient production car ever) that means they are IGNORANT, and have a lot of nasty surprises coming up.
liveoilfree 4 years ago
Yes ... I would not begin to buy the from the first few model years runs until the bugs are worked out.
milofonbil 4 years ago
Well we all know what's under that's Volt hood. :-)
Bogt 4 years ago
What, a sewing machine connected to the differential ? A little person that pedals the car forward? Either way, the volt is fake.
DrBrazil1 4 years ago 2
What would be even more controversial would be child labor or a illegal immigrant little person under the hood...

The funny thing is that they don't have a battery pack on display, that is after all the main component other than the electric moter that sets it apart from ICE's. Strange.

oops, motor* sorry...
mianersiyok 4 years ago 2
Notice how he didn't say yes to "does it run at all?" lol. He just nodded.
"Oh, I'm sorry...who are you?"
LOL, that somewhat proves my point that they are on the lookout of EV enthusiasts.

The guy wiping the car down seems somewhat annoyed with you Doug, it's as if they pass out memo's to all employees with kind of a "do not talk to or discuss products or company policy with" list of you and fellow activists. lol. Probobly with pictures of you guys and everything. Why are they so cruel? lol.
mianersiyok 4 years ago 3
The big issue was they didn't have anyone knowledgeable about the VOLT present; as if the mock-up squeaks for itself.
liveoilfree 4 years ago
The Volt concept has three golf cart batteries and a soap bucket under the hood and has a top speed of 5 MPH. The Tahoe hybrid costs $50,000 and gets 21 MPG. Their hydrogen SUV costs over one million dollars and emits as much CO2 as an average car because the H2 comes from fossil fuel. And they had a working electric car.
I don't think they want us gas free.

How can GM say they are going to release the Volt, when they are fighting CAFE?
tribluered 4 years ago 2
The same way I can say "RON PAUL, HOPE FOR AMERICA!!!" and not donate any money to him.
BrandNewAge 4 years ago
That doesn't make sense to me. How can you say one thing and do the exact opposite?
