I think that animals (the living beings which the speaker described as being in a state of ease) are, at most times, not in a state of ease, but, rather, are in a state of craving and discomfort (and, of course, in a state of ignorance more severe than almost all human beings). I think that the Buddha described the experience of being in the animal realm as being like being in a filthy uncomfortable pit.
Unfortunately, I wrote my previous comment out of craving (unfortunately, like most (or maybe all) of the actions that I do).
However, I think that what I wrote in my previous comment is accurate.
