@bobmartin760 No, The Coasters had a minor chart entry with "Love Potion No. 9", in 1971, a song that Leiber and Stoller had written for the Coasters originally, but instead gave it to The Clovers to record, in 1959. It's a cover of The Clovers' version.
look at the guitar height differences form this era to today! u got this dude with a bass on his chest then u got james headfild with his guitar below his balls!
Greaaat song!!! What a great decade the 1960's were for pop music!!! The British invasion brought us so many great bands;the Beatles, the Rolling Stones,The Animals,Herman's Hermits,The Kinks,The Yardbirds,The Search-
ers,the Dave Clark 5,Peter And Gordon,Chad And Jeremy,The Zombies,to name a few.I was 17 when I saw the Beatles at Candlestick Park in San Fran-
cisco,their last-ever concert."I Want Yo' Number." I co-wrote it.

thanks for serving. You and all those that served then were screwed by the politicians, the media and then the folks back home. I had a cousin that was in a base camp there that was over run. He darn near killed his mom when he got back, she tried to wake him up one morning and he forgot where he was. My brother was on the Kitty Hawk about '68-72. Me, I was 18 the last year of the draft. A friend and I was listening to the draft lottery on the radio. He was 6 days older than I, he number was 6.
@etjjsj if @LongCharlieSlim was in the military during and in 'Nam cut him a whole lot of slack. He and all who served there then deserve it. Music and thinking about home was important to them. I know from talking to close family & friends when they came back at that time. He saw a lot of things you would not want to I am sure, so please cut him some slack. The people back then, a lot of them, did not. I turned 18 the last year of the draft, but knew ones who went and served there.
@djepsonatmastnet Well son there is no “if” in my past service life. I served in the southern provinces from December 65 until November 66. I went back in 68, no, I was ordered back. A month later when nearing Cu Chi I stepped on an APM, but I was lucky, real lucky. Wearing the local produced “Snakes” instead of issue boots I only lost my left foot and nothing else.Fate cut me some slack that day. But you are correct in that music can sometimes be the only link between home and dark elsewhere.
@LongCharlieSlim I'm so sorry you and so many others had to go through that hell for tricky dick, lyndon b.s. johnson, and many others, while I lucked out and drew a high lottery #. Thank you, and all the others who went, for your courage and sacrifice.
@djepsonatmastnet Yes,please if was in military have mercy. When my brother came home alive i was very happy but it wasnt or never will be the same brother i had before the war. anyway semper-fi to all ty.
You know I've never heard this song until i went to my little sister's dance recital a few days ago.. they had this song playing for some reason while they did a terrible mixture of ballet and hip hop.. I liked the tune of the song, so here I am now listening to it!! This song is awesome!
The song is a classic, but I always whine when its lip-synched. It was hard to make it sound good on TV, I understand, but I still admired those who went on live.
Back in 66 we always played this for Madam "Auntie" Bertha at Phu Bie. She owned the local whore house called the "Palace of pleasure". It took a while, but in the end we taught her how to sing it in english. She did so with a real cute Vietnamese accent.
@wilcarr1 Well kid, while you were sitting in a hole picking at your ass and worrying if you might get killed that day my unit was already out there clearing the forward ordnance chuck had laid out as a surprise gift for you. So,we made it nice and safe for you to dance through the boonie, and probably why you are still here.
When I was growing up I had heard that was illegal or something for bands to play live on television. They had to lip sync everything. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Amazing technology they had way back then? Playing those fancy guitars without any cords, No Amplication system, and a drummer who couldn't keep the beat if it bit him on the butt. I loved that old song but it's so funny to watch these old vids and how truly Crude they were done so long ago.
@Savvynlady i agree, the old rock creators are going away.we must remember the longest music fad.classical has a leg up but it had a 500 year start.rock may be the longest, big band lasted for a generation,charleston,40's 50's white groups, and classical/rock interpretation.they are all little remembered.our current music that the world loves is based on rock and appears to be the format for the future.just a thought.when you mention Leiber don't forget Stroller!
I was grade 6 when this song was popular, it was always sung by my friend during class programs, my friend became a professional singer in Japan, he squandered his hard-earned money to the boys, as he was gay, he returned home penniless, this song reminds my of my gay friend. he is somewhat alright now.

Probably, but you can't really tell from watching what the camera shows. Also, if one guitar player appears to be copying what the other one is doing 3/4 of the time, it's because he has to. The rhythm guitarist, drummer, and bassist all play constantly, but the lead guitarist only has occasional solos. What is he supposed to do during the rest of the song?
