  • 'Fair use', is when you use someone else's material when there's no risk of you making any profit from it or make any claims that it belongs to you. Most companies don't mind if you use their stuff for spoof/mock videos, etc. But, there's always the occasional one who will highlight a claim for no apparent reason. 'Credit where credit's due', is a good one to follow. Such as, 'All copyrighted materials remains the property of their respective owners', in your video description.

  • It's funny how they get onto people for copyrighting when they copyright more than anyone. They steal videos from other youtubers and post them on their site, and not usually even in an embedded player from youtube. they actually have the file itself stored on their own server. It's ridiculous how they abuse their power to take down videos that aren't even infringing upon their rights.

  • Five Starred and Favourited. It really has gotten pathetic. I was expecting the background of your video to be taken away at any moment too.

  • that''s one nice video.. I couldn't believe how companies like viacom and WMG would get there hands on everything!

  • gamestop

  • all these copyright laws are getting annoying... last time i checked as long as we WERE NOT makeing money off any of this it was ok.. and i dont recall youtube OR Viacom paying me a cent for takeing time out of my day to make others feel happy when they watch my videos or the feelings i get when i watch some one elses... this is just plane stupid... -.-'

  • Hey, Matt you have fun videos by the way! Keep up your style...it's fun and sooo awesome partner!

    *****FIVE STARS FOR MATT

    Angel - said it again!

  • Yeah copyright...CLAIMS! It seems it's always something or somebody sticking its face into ours! HELP! Where is OUR FREEDOM! Is it still a matter of first come first SERVE? GEEZZZZ...

    Angel - said that!

  • Very nice video, i thought i was the only one having copyright problem. When i started to search, i discovered thousands of ppl with same problem. They need to understand that we promote their music! I understand it's the law, but if you can't change the law, then make the law. I hope this madness will be over soon

    Nice video, again :)

  • god i hate viacock

  • This copyright stuff is getting out of hand. I don't see how people using clips from movies and arranging them so there is an interpretation for a video is wrong. The people that are posting these videos are not making money off of them. They are more along the line of advertising for that Company. In fact most, not all, of the people that post videos have purchased the movies. When are the big Corporations going to stop taking advantage of peoples creativeness.

  • I just finished making a tribute music video that took me 7 hours to finish only to find out when I uploaded it was reject by Fox for copyright BULLSHIT!

  • I hear you, FOX did that same thing to me over a video I did. It was Clips from Super Troopers with music from 38 Special - Trooper With An Attitude.

  • I made a really cool MMV with Iron Man, but I can't post it! (damn it!)

  • FUCK THW COPYRIGTH PEOPLE

  • UMG AND NBC UNIVERSAL can go to hell and stay there . And they can stop claim copyright of our innocent videos . Fuck you UMG and go and do a brain examination.

  • fuck copyright laws! they can go fuck themselves!

  • Nice video! I was going to paste a big FU Viacom text art thing, but I figured I would spare you. :)

  • Thanks, BJ! I do agree with the sentiment!

  • Comment removed due to a copywright claim by Viabom International

  • It's getting to be such a shame to see some of these videos taken down. Good to see you and Happy!!!! Yayyyyyyyyyyyy!

  • PS, got the vids! Thanks.

Is it ok with you if I lift this offline and add it to the show?

There are a couple others, such as your musical parodies I'd like to lift and broadcast if this is ok with you?

    XXX

  • Hi Heather! Feel free to use any of my videos for your show. I appreciate the kind words and support! Thanks!

    -- Matt

  • SOSOSO AWESOME!

    HAHAHAHAHAHAAA! amazing! i love it!

Ok, poor man's copyright, ready? Put whatever information you want to copyright in an envelope--mail to yourself with "COPYRIGHT MATERIAL DO NOT OPEN" and don't open it.

The Federal stamp from the post office marks the day of copyright. :) Just a bit of info.

Hi David! Saw him removing your tie back there.

What an awesome job you did on this video.

  • Lol Matt, well put together! This is one of those vids that should be featured. 5*

  • Thank you very much, Norman!

    -- Matt

  • Ha,Ha. very well done. What we need are a few more brave souls to take a stand.

  • Thank you, Doris!

    -- Matt

  • I vote we recruit Starman to vanquish the evil Viabom and their mutants. Some nuke grenades ought to do the trick. Unless they copyrighted those too!

  • LOL! Calling in Starman just might do the trick! Thanks, Darl!

    -- Matt

  • That was a really entertaining way to make a serious point. Cool video, Matt. I'm going to feature this on my channel - if that won't cause a copyright problem.

  • It won't bother me. In fact, I appreciate it! Thank you very much! I'm honored!

    -- Matt

  • Great vid Matt!!! I thought for a moment there that Viabom was going to suck your soul away and claim copyright. Whew, you barely dodged that bullet!

  • Thanks! Yeah, lucky for me that Viacom is a souless corporation. LOL!

    -- Matt

  • Beyond Quality faved.. damn u viabom

  • Thank you very much, Evilspartacus! I really appreciate it!

    -- Matt

  • Same happened to me. I made a video using figures I have and apparently TVTokyo said it was copyright infringement. They were Naruto figures and it didn't make sense. I paid money for everything in the video but yet there's thousands of Naruto episodes and AMVs on Youtube that people downloaded for free. I give them money but yet they take it down.

  • One way to send a message to corporations is to fight every instance of wrongful removal. YouTube has a counter-claim form that users need to fill out and send whenever their video is wrongfully remove. Then it becomes incumbent on the corporations to prove infringement. Thanks!

    -- Matt

  • Great way to get your point across, Matt!!

Most people don't fight it when their vids are taken down for so-called copyright claims and that's what the corporations are counting on.

    Dianne

  • Exactly! I would like for everyone who had their videos wrongly accused of copyright violation to fight the removal and send a clear signal that this nonsense must stop. If these corporations want to have videos removed because of copyright infringement, then they should be made to actually review every video they plan to mark as being guilty of the crime. Thanks Dianne!

    -- Matt

  • Good ol' Viabom. What a bunch of scumbags Viacom and folk are. What crap have they flung your way recently, Matt?

  • Hi, Marty! So far, this year, Viacom hasn't bothered with me. I made this video because many YouTubers are still having their videos removed due to false claims by several corporations, not just Viacom. I singled them out because they are one of the worse offenders. Thanks for commenting!

    -- Matt

  • good video i am glad you side it way to go and did it in a funny why

  • Thanks, Kate! I figured humor would help get the point across.

    -- Matt

  • This is a pretty good video, Matt!

  • Thank you very much, Gerry!

    -- Matt

  • What cracks me up about these corporations that DO own copyright is that they don't understand the power of the share. Maybe others don't do this, but when I hear a piece of music that's new to me, that I like very much - I BUY THE CD. FROM THE STORE. So videos with music, especially, PROMOTE, for FREE, the products they lay claim to!

Great video Matt - hope you get your voice back!!

  • My voice is starting to return, thankfully. LOL! And I totally agree with your statement about sharing. I have bought CDs because of music I heard on YT, too. What it boils down to is short-sighted, greed-driven corporations that can't see the forest for the trees. Thanks for commenting!

    -- Matt

  • why dont yo get your own copyright on your videos? thats what i did when they removed a couple of my videos. but with a copyright you can contact youtube to make your account, videos, and anything else assoiated with it untouchable. i havent had a problem in the last year or so.

  • I thought copyright was automatic...the creator of a video, piece of music or print material automatically owns the copyright.

  • That's correct. The situation I detail in the video is about corporations wrongly claiming copyright infringement on other people's videos and having the videos removed. I fought and won twice to get my videos put back up when Viacom and Archie Comics made false claims. Thanks for the comment!

    -- Matt

  • Copyrights are automatic once the work is put in a reproducable form, like a video. YouTube could remove any of the videos if it wanted to do so. The thing is that many videos from many YouTubers are being removed because corporations are making wrongful charges of copyright violation when it isn't so. BTW, check the very end of this vid and you'll see my copyright notice. :-)

    Thanks, Gavin!

    -- Matt

  • wait.....so you do have a copyright?

    -gavin

  • Yes, Gavin.

    -- Matt

  • Guess I better comment and fav it quickly.

    Before it gets removed ;)

  • LOL! Thanks, Jeremy!

    -- Matt

  • Shame on Viabom! Nice keyframe cameo by David.

  • Thanks! David has a way of popping up in some of my videos. LOL!

    -- Matt

  • I used to own Happy (I actually created him) but I put him in one of those donation boxes, Sally's or Good Will. So I give you permission to use him... All royalties may be donated to my channel :O) yay

  • LOL! Thanks, Dorothy!

    -- Matt

  • hehehe that was good stuff matt.

  • Thank you very much!

    -- Matt

  • They took happy T_T

  • Luckily, I got him back. Heh. Thanks!

    -- Matt

  • Aint it the truth...aint it the truth!!

  • LOL! Thanks!

    -- Matt

  • LOL we should fight this stuff, its ridic!

  • It sure is! Thanks!

    -- Matt

  • Very funny stuff!

  • Thank you very much!

    -- Matt

  • Lol,good job matt.

  • Thanks! I appreciate it!

    -- Matt

  • funny

  • Thank you, James!

    -- Matt

  • wow that stinks!!

nice video matt short and to the pointtttt.

p.s awsome video... we got to fight this.

  • Thanks, DXRIP619! The video of mine that was removed was put back after I fought the removal. But, there are many other people who have had their videos removed wrongly, as well.

    -- Matt

  • **LMAO**

Viabom is a big pile of poopy diapers from hell.

  • LOL! Thanks, Curt! Yay!!

    -- Matt

  • LOL Awesome Matt!

  • Thank you, Bay! I'm glad you enjoyed it!

    -- Matt

  • I thought this had all died down now. We should all boycott Viacom and their susidiaries.

  • From what I understand, there are still many YouTubers having their videos wrongly removed for copyright violation. It's not just Viacom, either, though I chose to focus on that corporation. Viacom is certainly one of the worst offenders, though. Thanks, Siggy!

    -- Matt

  • That would include (but not limited to), CBS, MTV, comedy central, Noggin, and Nickelodeon. I think they own a recording company as well. Since I can't post any links, you'll just have to google it.

  • Yep, I have checked out Viacom's site and more in the past. In fact, it was MTV's legal department that reviewed my video that was removed by Viacom last year, and confirmed that it was wrongly taken down. Thanks!

    -- Matt

  • again? *bangs head against table*

  • Thankfully, I haven't had any problem with wrongful removal for a few months, but I am hearing from a lot of other YouTubers who are going through it lately. Thanks for the comment!

    -- Matt

  • I can't belive Viacom is removing videos from youtube!I mean sure some of their stuff is theirs like TV shows but removing parodies? That's just wrong! There is a thing called fair use so why can't Viacom see that? It's kind of similar on how the Irate Gamer remove videos that say how he is a AVGN ripoff.

Great video!Viacom will not get away with it.

  • Thanks! Yeah, for some time now, Viacom and other corporations have been claiming copyright infringement on many videos that did not actually violate or infringe on copyrights. I had hoped that things would have changed since my battle over the removal of my video last year, but it seems other people are still experiencing the same thing with their videos. Thanks for commenting!

    -- Matt

  • wow.... i was noticing wrong claims where going on... hmmm... do you use a showbiz editer?

  • Hi, Ryan! I use Pinnacle Studio Pro 10, mostly. Thanks!

    -- Matt

  • Very good point Matt.

  • Thank you!

    -- Matt

  • I had a copyright infringement msg on one of my videos but I kept fighting it and they didn't take it down. Don't ask me how I did it but it's getting ridiculous for damm sure!

LMAO ViaBomb!! Love it love it OMG this is too funny! great job. Hey if I lay claim to the register can get it?

  • LOL! Viabom already took it. Heh.

    Thanks for commenting, Furnifur!

    -- Matt

  • great point matt these companys are jerks

  • Thanks!

    --

    matt

  • You know, isn't it illegal for Viacom to claim stuff that isn't theirs their own?

They could get sued too, at this rate.

    ...Or something else'd.

Some kind of backlash most likely will happen, though.

  • I do believe that if someone had the money (maybe a class action suit), then they could possibly sue Viacom over wrongful removal of videos. Basically, corporations that remove videos wrongly are falsely accusing people of commiting a crime. Thanks for the comment!

    -- Matt

  • Or maybe someone can find some pro-bono (sp?), blood-sucking lawyer who is more than willing to go against a media giant to make a name for himself.

  • OMG!! Save Happy from the corporate demons!! you look very nice in the suit without the tie actually. excellent vlog.

  • Thank you very much, Kathy! Thankfully, I was able to rescue Happy! Yay!

    -- Matt

  • whew! you wouldn't want controversial vids of Happy being thrown off a cliff appearing on YouTube! I mean if he was in the hands of kidnappers!

  • I hope they see this and notice that everything is not copyrighted, good vid.

  • Thanks, Paul! I appreciate it!

    -- Matt

  • Wow, this is about right too!! This was hilarious Matt!! best video yet!! woo hooo... I tried typing Y - A - Y But they said it had been removed!!!! -Alan-

  • That figures! LOL! Thanks, Alan!

    -- Matt

  • very well done. good point.

  • Thank you very much!
