This is done pretty badly.  It basically shows the kid with insurance getting invited to play - not *asking* to play, talking, or doing anything until the other boy came up to him - and the kid without it being ignored. It doesn't show that one has more ability to talk or play than the other.

It's true: all kids with autism should get health insurance, but this ad just doesn't work.

Now every rude weirdo with emotional problems likes to think he is autistic. Personally I dont care as long as these malcontents shut up about the cure...if you are lucky enough to be that "high functioning" be grateful, and dont stand in the way of helping real autistics people with serious, devastating symptoms.

I dont believe insurance Should pay...its the responsibilty of the federal government to its tax paying citizens to ensure anyone who needs that kind of help gets it. Its the law, in fact ,and our school district paid out 50 grand a year to educate him and get his behaviours under control. If you ask insurance companies to put out that kind of dough they will all be broke in two years.

Also, frankly, for the most part there ARE no cures, and there is no guarantee your child will ever be as independent as you had hoped. A child who is autisic, can improve in alot of ways, but this commercial blows it out of proportion.

They are basically saying, if you support Autism Speaks, then your child will be talking and doing sports like all the other kids, but if he doesn't have autism speaks, then he will just sit there doing nothing, not talking. Thats not really how it works. There wouldn't be that drastic of a difference between the two kids.

They are autistic...they cannot speak, read, write or communicate meaningfuly and are almost always out of touch with reality and have severe learning disorders. They will require help and support to the end of their days.Thats whats Wrong with them and thats what needs to be Cured. Or helped...as much as possible.

Man I love the fact that this comercial is out. I have email all my friends and all my family to call and get this ball rolling. My child was diagnosed three years ago. He goes to school and gets treatment and is also with included with the day to day activities with neurotypical kids. But I can't help but wonder if my son did get this treament how much further along he would be. Thank you Autism speaks for being the voice and helping our children get what is rightfully theirs.

Autism is a medically diagnosed condition. Children with autism are entitled to any and all medical care--both conventional and unconventional--that their parents can find for them. When my daughter was about five, we were blessed with a modest inheritance that allowed us to work with a physician (MD) who was innovative and caring -- but not covered by insurance. I am convinced to this day that the two years she was under Dr. Hicks care made all the difference for her and for us.

My son has had all his "assistance" through school sponsored activities and with constant exposure to "neuro" typical children. He is healthy, happy, and bright child and is never excluded although not all the children want him in their games, but that is children - they accept him in other ways. How a child reacts with the world depends a lot on the child and the environment they live in. I fail to see how this ad is even accurate because we don't see the environment either child is in.
