Yes, looking foward to this, Terror of the Autons, The Daemons and Planet of Spiders and The Ambassadors of Death to be released on DVD and The Silurians to be unboxed. Big asks but I can wait.
This is one of the best-ever WHO stories, very entertaining and fast moving. While the limited dino SFX hurts initially, once imagination takes over, the dinosaurs are barely noticeable in this otherwise superb story!
Also remarkable is the solid anchoring presence Elisabeth Sladen is in only her 2nd story. The WHO producers must have been really impressed with her, to give "Sarah Jane" such a large amount of screen time in only her 2nd outing!
The special effects were part of the charm of the classic show, but truth be told it was campy even for that time period. The look of the special effects reflected the imagination of the art department who had to work with limited funds and limtied technology. They would have been happy to use CGI if they had it, but they didn't. Remember the rock monster on Star Trek? A man beneath a rug! The effects were very innovative for what they had to work with.
Unfortunately, episode one only exists in black and white, which I think will prevent its release on DVD until they either restore colour to it or finally decide that it is not an option. It was also one of the last stories to be released on VHS.
Only Part 1 was lost, and exists now only as a B&W video transfer. The concern about a DVD of "Invasion of the Dinosaurs" is that even with colorization of Part 1, there would be an obvious difference in quality between Part 1, and Parts2-6.
I think the special effects look cute and charming, for all those bagging the special effects, you need an imagination, or would you rather just be constantly be spoon fed CGI cop-outs
@glnelson1956 Agreed. With imagination, you always have an unlimited budget, so things can look as good as you want them too. At least, that's how it was for me when I read the Pinnacle Books novelization of this way back when.

They cannot bring it out on DVD because the BBC lost a lot of footage...

Excellent point and comment, mintyspace.
Advice to those so lacking in imagination that you require the "spoon-feeding" of special effects via cartoonish CGI:
READ BOOKS!
Reading a book requires that you create a world in your imagination based on the author's words. It is a great way to build your mental creativity.

It's a pity special effects weren't as good as today back then.
But the story itself looks interesting.

I've met a few of those actors there including Elisabeth Sladen, quite enjoy this story despite its bad reputation!

Some people say that there are too many repeats on TV.
So why haven't they repeated a few of the old Dr Who programes.
I can't remember this one being repeated.
