yes, the genesis dpad was awesome and the DC one is kinda sluggish indeed, but hey cool games for the dc out there too and lots of homebrews. N64 had some cool games, but nothing unique you know? can find them on SNES or GC too. saturn had awesome 2d shooters and ps1 and ps2 are just great systems with great controlers. and DC dpad is not the worst by far. i nominate nintendo DS
Sorry all but the PS2 was over-priced and over hyped from the get-go. The "Emotion Engine" didn't throw around nearly the polygon count that was initially claimed, either. In fact; put it next to the Dreamcast and the only real advantage it had, apart from the support of EA - BASTARDS! - was its DVD player.
That said; the DVD player did turn out to be the killer app so we mustn't grumble. Just such a shame that the Dreamcast and PS2 couldn't live side by side.
Anyone calling PS2 "old school", when it's just the last generation, is probably a 13 year old desperately trying to look like a video game veteran. Now Playstation 1, yeah, I think you can safely call it old school or whatever.
It would've been a linear pile of shit due to the the buttons the Dreamcast so sorely lacked. Not to mention a Dreamcast GigaDisc could only hold 1.2GB opposed to a PS2 DVD that could hold 8.5GB.
i wouldn't call it "ahead of it's time". it was right for it's time. the DVD ability, the graphics, the games and the selling power were all right for it's time. the two systems afterwards (xbox and gamecube) were just there to pick up the pieces that the ps2 didn't have. however as the #5 system, i think it should swap spots with the Genesis.
I hate the PS2 controller, and sony fan boys, G and DB aren't sony fanboys, but the comment page is full of them, personally, I think the XBox is better for the following reasons
1) Popularized online gaming, picking up of were the dream cast ended
2) Built in Hard drive and fairly large Memery cards
3) Some of the best games on the PS2 are on XBox, plus some good games of it's own, and great P.C. ports on the system

First, the PS2 has sold 138 million units, not 180 million.
Now how is the N64 better than the PS2:
1.) The N64 was $200 at launch compared to the $300 at PS2
2.) The N64 was the last of the cartridge based consoles and the games still looked great
3.) The PS2 had a number of hardware problems at release, plus there were a number of items you had to buy seperatley.. ex: hard drive, modem, 4 controller port
But I do agree with you about the PS2 having an excellent library of games.

Actually PS2 had 140 million, while N64 had 64 million or something around there. I think the N64 was revolutionary because of great true 3D games. PS2 has some great games as well.
Well, the PS2 sales has conflicting sources. some say 130, some say 140, 138, 145 etc. the fact remains that it is the best selling console.
the N64 sold +/- 33 million, just more than half the NES and 16 million short of the SNES.
The N64 was revolutionary because of the great 3D capability that was showcased with Mario 64, Goldeneye was first great console-based FPS, and that it was the first console to support vibration in the controllers (Sony and Sega followed that trend afterwards)

First, the PS2 has sold 138 million units, not 180 million.
Now how is the N64 better than the PS2:
1.) The N64 was $200 at launch compared to the $300 at PS2
2.) The N64 was the last of the cartridge based consoles and the games still looked great
3.) The PS2 had a number of hardware problems at release, plus there were a number of items you had to buy seperatley.. ex: hard drive, modem, 4 controller port
But I do agree with you about the PS2 having an excellent library of games.

Actually PS2 had 140 million, while N64 had 64 million or something around there. I think the N64 was revolutionary because of great true 3D games. PS2 has some great games as well.

Well, the PS2 sales has conflicting sources. some say 130, some say 140, 138, 145 etc. the fact remains that it is the best selling console.
the N64 sold +/- 33 million, just more than half the NES and 16 million short of the SNES.
The N64 was revolutionary because of the great 3D capability that was showcased with Mario 64, Goldeneye was first great console-based FPS, and that it was the first console to support vibration in the controllers (Sony and Sega followed that trend afterwards)

The Playstation 2 had the most insane game library of any console ever made, and when it came out it was a fucking steal because of the DVD Player, that was a BIG reasoning behind me getting mine back in 2002

i say PS3 because it has more well rounded sets off games i own all 3 systems of current gen and younger siblings.i compare an fair plains. i say the wii is good for yunger kids and older ppl like parents who are new to video games. the Xbox 360 is better for teens and adults who want M rated shooters and some racers but the PS3 is well rounded for all of these traits.

Dreamcast was already dead and buried, months before GTA III was even released.
On top of that, GTA III was always being lead developed on PS2.
