If the UCLA football program wants to return to the glory days of Terry Donahue, Jim Mora Jr will not be the man who will lead them there. Let's face it he's an NFL guy who relates to NFL players not 18- 20 year olds just out of high school. DG made a flat out bad hire, he panicked and went with a so called big name as opposed to a real head coach that has a proven college head coaching football experience. I could be wrong but I believe UCLA will be looking for a new coach within 3 seasons.
If this hire will be the end of DG and Block, i'm all for it. Other then that, this is just sad. Moral will get his chance, unfortunately, and we'll have to see what coordinators he brings. Just when you thought we hit rock bottom....
for a school full of smart people ucla sure makes alot of dumb moves i think mora is a pretty good hire but not a move that shakes the college football world guerrero shoulda had a plan and fired rick earlier so he had more time to go after another coach like u of a idk y ucla cant understand that waterpolo softball soccer even baseball arent important college sports the big money is in bball and fb got millions invested in renovations but not coaching its rediculous
I agree man. I'm pretty neutral on this one, but am leading towards disappointed because I was hoping for a proven college coach. But maybe Mora will prove to be a big time college coach and prove me wrong. I'm also fed up with Guerrero, that is for sure.
I thought UCLA should have taken a look at Jeff Fisher, he's alot more accomplished than Mora and I'm sure he is probably itching to pop up somewhere as a head coach, why not UCLA. I'm still going to give Mora a fair chance, what else am I gonna do start rooting for those other assholes across town.
I just feel like we could have hired someone better. Could we have done worse? Sure, but it just feels like UCLA settled again for a coach. Hopefully his NFL pedigree can bring in some recruits. I feel 50/50 on the hire. Could be better, could be worse.
I'm not incredibly thrilled with this hire but what would blow my mind in the best way would be if Mora brought in Walker to be the D-coordinator again. Would soften the blow.
I hope Mora brings success to this program. Not necessarily the best hire, but if you remember, Pete Carroll had a terrible NFL coaching record before going to USC, and all of their fans were disappointed with the hire...
Exactly. With the money we are getting, I think we could've offered him a nice deal and probably would've gotten him if Dan had reached out to him, assuming that he didn't. Fedora is getting 1.7 yearly in his new contract with the Tar Heels.
If we had gotten him, he could bring some more of that TX talent out here being that he's a native of that state.
Roll of the dice hire! Only feasible candidate who actually wanted the job. Betcha he tries to hire Knapp to the staff. The two were together in SF, ATL, and SEA.
I think UCLA needs better players.

@Keflynn63 The players are supposedly there. Look at the recruiting classes under Neuheisel.... that wasn't the issue.

This is a bad hire.

@babykevinxoxo Most people think that. Can't just be negative just yet. Give him 3 years and then we can evaluate.

It was dg rick should've been gone after zona and after year it shows he didn't have a list getting turned down left and right

@cottofan12 I'm not really that mad he wasn't fired after the Zona game. We'd have no replacement mid-season if that happened.

@TheRenegadeMentality We tried for Petersen, and it failed. We were out of options when that didn't work.

IDK about this hire but all I hope for is change for the better because this past decade hasn't been good for us UCLA fans.
How about UNC hiring Larry Fedora? Now that's a helluva hire considering what he's done at Southern Miss. and his style of coaching...

@IENinersfan And I remember Knapp was a mess up there. He was good with the Raiders when Kiffin was with him.
