  • I would like to add that I did a similar mod to my grand marquis ( 2000 4.6L) I noticed that when climbing hills on the interstate ( live in NC and travel to TN weekly) That I would loose speed with cruise set as much as 7 mph and the car would down shift really hard. Once I put it back like it was the deceleration would be 2 to 3 mph and would down shift quickly and smoothly. Mpg on interstate suffered as well- 2 mpg less some times but always atleast 1 mpg.

  • @mrrodneyalong I noticed about the same thing it seems the ECU can not correct for the extra air a chip would really help and that along with a dual exhaust are next on my list.

  • I Looked into adding a CAI for my 04 P71 and you can't get them in o4 they upgraded the air intake and Suspension and Steering to the Marauder if I Tried to mod the CAI in it wouldn't pass smog and would confuse the Computer sys have to go with a Drop in and opening up the Bottom of the airbox will throw it off also 04's and newer have Been Tweaked the Best Ford could do with a 4.6 if you Look at the new interceptors their 360 hp and sixes by ford amazing what they did

  • put a drop in k&n filter,,you WILL get more power and its the last filter you will ever have to buy,,

  • this is nice,,,put the k&n drop in in it ,,,,,i made the intake kit that afe sales with a spectra maf adapter and a 9in cone open ended 750cfm filter for $40 instead of $175,,,,i armaflexed the rade hose and mad a nice heat shield that droped my intake temp by 30 deg far ,,,,,,

  • it wont improve anything, the reason why the cone is vented to behind the bumper is so that only cooler air will get sucked thru your intake, if u cut the box, all the hotter engine air will enter ur intake therfore shittier performance.

  • is there any noticable difference? performance..mpg wise

  • @kininc Slight mostly just sound once I get cone filter and better intake of cool air will help more.

  • You should rev it up so we could hear the deeper sound.

  • you should put a k&n filter in not the round one were you have to change your filter set up theyll sell one that takes you old filters place.

  • i swissed my airbox n sounds sick. fun little mod if youre poor like me

  • didnt see what you did

  • Basically now the airbox is a box with the front/bottom put cut out, empty inside, and filter on top.

  • missouri nukkah!!

  • I have an '05 Merc Grand Marquise. Though not the same, but is is to a certain extent. I think they have more pep than the Impala that I had did before but that is just me.

**Put some lights on that think! lol ~ ; ]**

  • I like this color mine is a great(gray)97..

  • i love crown vics, i wanna VIP mod one like those VIP drift cars in japan, crown vic is like the toyota chaser out there.

  • nice im a chevy guy tho

my bro use to have a lincon somthing that had a mustang 5.0 in

and he had a 2005 stang but he got rid of both

  • That beast is pretty noisy.. you don't need to add that many Antec Tri-cool 120mm fans, Rick!!

  • very nice! i did somthing similar on my 86 toyota supra

  • You took the air resonator out of the inner fender?? I did that to my Tbirds. It made the 4.6 a tad louder but not much. My 3.8 on the other hand it was like WOW you could really hear it sucking in!

  • Im speaking in theory/ im no engineer and know nothing about building car engines, but wouldnt the 4.6 get a bit better gas milage than the 5.0l and I bet those cvpi w/ the 5.8 & VV probably sucked gas. that corvette w/ the 7.0l can get 25 mpg and thats w/ my vic got yet it only has a small block 4.6

  • Americans and there big V8's lol

  • Aussies and their clown cars!!! lol

  • you want to say that to my face i will smash you and our cars smash yours.

  • You're not making any sense.

  • Yeah, you know, real engines

  • Nice car. Is that SOHC 4.6L got the PI head, cam, intake? OR did CVs get the PI engine??

  • with the price of gas right now in evrey country that thing must drink like a bitch and cost a hell of a lot to re fill

  • 4.6's ain't that bad this heavy car would still be decent on the highway if you do most of your driving on long trips.

  • yeah i guess but here in the uk im driving a 1.4 which is very light so i can get up to like 60 miles per gallon out of it and its still fairly fast

  • My old 302 had some torque with a CAI and open dual exhaust cut-off after cats. I also removed some weight like 100 pounds or so. Never had a problem kickin some honda ass on the streets of O'Fallon.

  • I own a 97 crown vic lx and althogh I wasnt interested in buying a new car I went to the mercury dealer and tested a 2008 model grand marquis and I noticed a major difference, it is much faster ,throttle responce, along w/ improved steering (probably because of the update rack and pinion) If I wanted to put r&p on my 97 is it worth it cause recirculating ball is less precise/ (it sucks!!)

  • Never thought about it but doesnt matter I am making a real CAI after winter to liven up the 4.6 even more.

  • I am wondering are you going to buy a kit or are you going to make it yourself? If doing it yourself are you going to use a K@N filter head? Could you upload vid for me cause I want a diffrent look under my hood.

  • Custom all the way and yes a video will be post ed gonna wait until spring when it is nicer out.

  • if your going to do that to the airbox at least do it right. u should have left the top edge to the bottom half of the airbox so that the filter will seal properly. and get a K&N filter, that stock paper filter is too restrictive.

  • Ditto! I was actually thinking about doing something sorta like that to the 89 Crown Vic but I'm going to use a hose running from the box to under the bumper to scoop up the air.

  • won't get nothin from that stock 5 liter. get a 5.0 HO or just get a 92 or newer with 4.6, much better engine

  • You can convert the lopo to HO..But the best engine swap so far for the crown Vic's has got to be the explorer 5.0 HO they have a bit more torque and thats what crown Vic's really need is more torque.

  • And I actually prefer the older 5.0 becase there pretty easy to work on. Anyone here ever try to change a headgasket on a 4.6? Its a pain...Other then that its a pretty nice engine.

  • ever put a water pump, thermostat or even spark plugs on a 5 liter crown vic? what a pain in the ass. the 4.6 is so much easier to work on for most things. i'll give u the head gasket but how about trying to just replace all the vacume hoses on the 5.0 jesus u have to take the whole upper intake off and that in itself involves tons of bullshit. as far as the way they run, the 5.0 has a little more torque but the 4.6 more than makes up for this with strong mid-range and top end.

  • Yup....I grew up with the 5liter, It gets easier with time...lol...with the water pump I start out by removing the radiator....and then the belts...and so on....No too difficult after the 10-15th time:) Oh and the 5liter is pretty cheap to hot rod too:)....But I do like the 4.6 also dont get me wrong:)
