Even the songs wich didn't become a clasic, are clasics! Paul McCartney has always been one of the better composers is history of music. I can easily go from Bach to him. Happy to hear this version, it's a real treasure!
Great to see again, I was in the audiance during the filming of this and later Met Paul. I have been searching youtube for the interview on the couch with paul that followed but havn't found it yet. you wouldn't have it by any chance. i was standing directly behind Paul during the interview that was done by some kid who was a celeb at the time following an apearance in a Maddonna vid.
@LIMEY125 Was the interviewer a guy or girl? There is a 1986 Music Box interview on youtube by ArrowThroughMe, but nobody is standing behind him. Maybe you meant the 1987 Veronica Countdown interview? Lots of people on the stage in that one.
@njriley55 He was a guy of around 12 or 13 years old and did a prety poor job, but still performed better than Paula Yates would have. He was enjoying his 15 minuets of fame after appearing in the Maddonna Video for 'Open Your Heart'.
@macrockettere I think it's Kate Robbins- on Wikipedia under the"Press to Play "album this song is from there' s a lsit of everyone involved and what they do and it says Kate Robins as Harmony vocals
oh , this song is so gorgeous , even in its bare bones form , without the orchestra . i never understood why this song wasn't a bigger hit here in the usa . it's so beautiful , and one of my favorites by paul . the notes make such great sense together , and it's really such a simple song . it proves that when u get the right notes and chords together , it can be orgasmic .
I know he is the best bass player, and a prolific, and often fantastic song writer, but it is that voice, that pure, stunningly beautiful voice that gets me every time. What a treasure!
Cuz of set-lists compose by his manadgers and they rely on people*s tastes. Sure mostly of them prefer Beatles songs (even lots of it Paul wrote by himself-i mean songs he plays now in the concerts).
But his creation with the Wngs are very underestimate.
Newcastle the Tube Dec 86, I got invited to this and Paul sang "Whole lotta shaking go on" as well. Only Love is a beautiful song should have been a big hit!
all this talk about how the sax ruins songs, just be very careful what tunes your claiming are ruined... Spandau Ballet- true, Dire Straits- your latest trick, Jerry Rafferty- baker street to name just 3
This is oneof my favorite songs which is seldom played. Unlike the songs nowadays, they ruin the quality of making a nice song. What they created are songs that are nasty and nothing. Sorry, but then, what I commented is true.
John said that Paul could be a great writer as long as "I kept him on his toes?" Typical. Haughty, arrogant man. John had no bigger fan than John.
Paul was and is a great writer and doesn't/didn't need John.
Some of these people who live in the past and immediately tag any piece of Paul's new music as "good, but not as good as the Beatles," really need to get a life and stop living in the past. Some of Paul's solo stuff is better than the Beatles.
Ignore my previous comment This was the tube dec 86 but i was at that too thanks to Geoff Baker, i even got speaking to Linda who spoke to me regarding the Royal variety picture i had taken with her..i sent it to her and she sent it signed.. if only all couples were Like Linda and paul...
I was at this nov 86 Royal variety and ive still got my ticket signed by Paul and Linda as well as some great photos I was closer than his kids who sat in the row behind me!
This is Paul's best love song as a solo artist...Better than "My Love"...I just hope that this would be given more importance and be included in his compilations and should be sung also in his concerts...Haunting melody...

you know, you are right. the sax in this song really isn't too annoying... i just have a knee jerk reaction of hatred for the sax haha

I kind of get your point. It`s not an instrument you would like to dominate a song, but when it`s used like it is in this song it`s ok.
Enslaved10 2 years ago

Ringo was asked by Larry King who was in your opinion the real driving force behind the Beatles, John or Paul??
Ringo replied
"Paul made sure we played good music. John made sure we had good music to play."
Lennon once said of Paul when the Beatles were near the end: "He's proven that he can been a fantastic songwriter, as long as I keep him on his toes."
Paul said "We are not in a writing contest, I will run things past him (John) and I know immediately if he thinks I can do better"
ScottCLimaTeacher 3 years ago 5
Very good insight. I didn't know those quotes. :)
PSV0001 3 years ago
Amazing song.... Paul would have been only 44 yrs old here, and John would have been 46 at this point if he were alive....
I can only dream/imagine what kind of music Lennon & McCartney could have been making together around this time....
It was shortly after this that I feel Paul lost his edge a little. Still awesome.... but 1964 to 1987 Macca is nearly untouchable.
1988 to 2008, did Macca have a song in the top 20? Damn.. I wish John & Paul could have gave us 15-20 more years together
