Puck between his skates on a breakout, like Havlat wasn't going to play that puck. Winger flat footed on the break out put him on his ass! It was a dramatic hit to say the least. This is something else thats annoying as hell, people seem to think that the puck was between his legs for like 30 seconds, it was just moving between his legs towards the stick, there for Kronwall hit him too early, so interference. Plus he jumps on his hit so charging, but that one is a close one. Interference for sure, so hardly a clean hit. The hit does not need to be celebrated at all because it was just a terrible play.

hey, I'm not sayin' he can't hit or that sucks. But, christ! With the exception of the Dallas hit at 2:11 and the assist on that goal at 1:43 this is a video FULL of "air Kronwall"- Consistently. As far as studying physics: I have a Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering. You don't need that to see that he leaves his feet.
He doesn't lift until after the hit is engaged. Ofc he's gonna lift after the hit is engaged because he uses his leg to give him extra power, and that starts a forward-up momentum. If you have studied kinetics you would have understood that.
But I don't want to say that all kronwalls hits are legit but most of them are.
Kronwall doesn't jump so much as lift his trailing leg off the ice to get full momentum into his upper body. He doesn't get called for charging as he only leaves the ice with both feet after contact with the other player.
Those of you who think he's charging, sometime when you've got nothing to do, get a full blown running start over a good distance to get up to top speed.
Then try to come to an abrupt stop, possibly while running into something that is going to give to your momentum. See how easy it is to keep your feet underneath you.
Then do it again on ice, and then do it again on ice skates.
When you hit someone ice you almost always bounce, since he's a relatively smaller guy he bounces a lot more and doesn't hold to the ice as well as Stevens would have. So I do not believe he is charging.
But, given the amount that he does these kind of hits, don't you think that the refs would start calling it? Now that he has a reputation for "leaving his feet during the hit"?

I contend that there's a fine distinction between the act of "charging" and what he's doing. I think he's making contact with the shoulder, and just sort of following through on the hit and falling forward a bit. Any thoughts? I know it's subtle, but how else are the officials not calling it?
One of the best open ice hitters for Detroit in a long time. Best thing about him is he picks his spots well as not to leave the defensive zone uncovered when making his hits.
He jumped once. Everyone else who claimed he jumped don't know shit. He may have been off the ice cause the force of the impact was great he knocked himself back up in the air.

He's only leaving his feet from the momentum after he lays the hit. He's a shorter guy so it's only physically natural for him to leave his feet.. after the hit. If he were to jump and then hit, it'd be a different story, but it's strictly from momentum.

actually, you are wrong. in this video, he leaves the ice once. the one agains nashville near the boards he jumps before the tackle. rest of the time, he's clearly one of the cleanest hitters in nhl. no elbows, no charching, no hands up in the face.
Why he leaves after the hits rest of the time, is because he's quite a lightweight for his game. read some physics and u might understand why he leavs the ice AFTER a collision-type hit.

You have to hit him after he gets the puck. He got him just before. According to the rule book this is interference. I don't understand why he even had to hit him. It would have been smarter to try to get the puck. He didn't even try for the puck, he tried to hit him with all his might. And he got caught. Glad the NHL did something about it. This is something else thats annoying as hell, people seem to think that the puck was between his legs for like 30 seconds, it was just moving between his legs towards the stick, there for Kronwall hit him too early, so interference. Plus he jumps on his hit so charging, but that one is a close one. Interference for sure, so hardly a clean hit. The hit does not need to be celebrated at all because it was just a terrible play.

He doesn't lift until after the hit is engaged. Ofc he's gonna lift after the hit is engaged because he uses his leg to give him extra power, and that starts a forward-up momentum. If you have studied kinetics you would have understood that.

Those of you who think he's charging, sometime when you've got nothing to do, get a full blown running start over a good distance to get up to top speed.
Then try to come to an abrupt stop, possibly while running into something that is going to give to your momentum. See how easy it is to keep your feet underneath you.
Then do it again on ice, and then do it again on ice skates.

When you hit someone ice you almost always bounce, since he's a relatively smaller guy he bounces a lot more and doesn't hold to the ice as well as Stevens would have. So I do not believe he is charging.
But, given the amount that he does these kind of hits, don't you think that the refs would start calling it? Now that he has a reputation for "leaving his feet during the hit"?

What do you guys think of this? There's been a lot of back and forth about whether or not he leaves his feet when hitting, which would ordinarily mean "charging" and 2 minutes in the box.
I contend that there's a fine distinction between the act of "charging" and what he's doing. I think he's making contact with the shoulder, and just sort of following through on the hit and falling forward a bit. Any thoughts? I know it's subtle, but how else are the officials not calling it?
