"Go thru if it's safe" the driver said to your question about the yellow lights. I was always told prepare to stop. Maybe red doesnt' mean stop now a days.
You MUST stop behind the white ‘Stop’ line across your side of the road unless the light is green. If the amber light appears you may go on only if you have already crossed the stop line or are so close to it that to stop might cause a collision.
this guy is a dick, he should give his Aston Martin to me.
My god he must have a small penis, an Aston Martin AND aviator sunglasses. Crikey, I wonder if he's got any sperm left! OR a girlfriend for that matter.
I know it's wrong of me, but when I watch him talking I can't stop imagining his face as I punched him hard in mid flow. Blood all over his shirt, broken glasses dangling off his ear.
If they have time to press the horn…. Think he just lost face and argued the toss there – your cycling appeared to be courteous, safe and considerate to other road users – only one idiot on that road…
@2009jimmy2009 no way! M.C. would have had something smart to say and would be cool without tacky sunglasses! He was a total moron. Maybe he will see this vid and leave the capital with shame at his poor performance.......
Sometimes that happens here too if you come to a full stop at a stop sign like you're supposed to. I've been using the stopping arm signal in these situations, but doesn't always help as some drivers might not have seen it since their learning to drive! Or might recognize it and not care..
@alexwarrior1 I stopped using the UK stopping arm signal (a bit like flapping your arm) about 10 years back. No one understood a damn thing I was doing despite the fact its still printed in our Highway Code. You'd even get the occasional shout from a driver about it.
Thesedays the Police rarely direct traffic. Their signals are not understood, so when the lights break down they just let road users get on with it.
@downfader2 Ah cool I never knew that about the UK stopping signal. After a little bit of google work, I found a demonstration of the flapping bird signal!
I wonder if he's a bit confused between flashing ambers on a crossing and amber solids at traffic lights? He needs a bit of advice on safe distances and reading the road.....brake lights, I hope he doesn't meet those cars with duff brake lights...if that's his only clue.
Even in Australia, if you run into the back of someone you are at fault. You cannot complain if someone stops for an orange light, the guy is a tosser.
He drives an Aston. You ride a bike. He is lord, you are peasant. You didn't dof your forelock so he got upset. (you can substitute Aston with any other expensive "prestige" car).
Obviously, it's all the cyclist's fault, for not having brake lights, as the driver mentions at the outset. It is perfectly reasonable to expect all cyclists to invent and fit brake lights, just to make sure that Aston Martin drivers can get through amber lights without delay. Bloody cyclists!
The only thing I would say after many years experience is that there is very little point in discussing the pros and cons of someones driving with them when they're so clearly living in la la land. I usually just smile and wave when someone toots like that, I find its much more fun.
Twat can afford a DB9 but not a copy of the highway code? Amber means "Go through if its safe"?!?

I learnt that there really isn't much point in talking to these idiots. Not only does he not understand what amber means, but he also thought it was safe despite you being in front of him!
I must confess that a few times i've gone through an amber when i could have stopped. Only because i didn't think the vehicle behind me would stop and in most cases i've been right.
I'm with Gaz, sometimes I stop, sometimes I go through if there is something behind me.
Rule 176 of HC states: If the amber light appears you may go on only if you have already crossed the stop line or are so close to it that to stop might cause a collision.
@redvee2002 There are times when I've jumped reds, solely because I've been all but pushed through by the following car. I frequently have to pull left as I stop at lights to allow the following car(s) room to miss me and I know that I have to be prepared to keep rolling in situations like this. The problem here was mainly that the guy accelerated to try to beat the light as I decided to brake. When I looked back he wasn't that close.
@bbborp The thing that really annoys me about w@nkers like this driver is that they moan about cyclists jumping red lights at every mention of the word bike, and yet the STUNNING HYPOCRISY.
what a pratt! I think you were fairly polite to him actually.
