I experianced Michelle Shocked at a concert 2 times in Detroit a few years ago...the first ...The Concert of Colors...the second time was a wonderfully small venue called the MAGIC BAG in Ferndale,Mi....[ 6 blocks from my house ] ...so natural and connected to the audience I fell in love with her spirit and ability to connect with the audience...at one point in the concert when she encouraged the audience to sing along she shouted out ,what a beautiful voice ...a friend I was with ,THANKS

michelle started writing this at while doing a series of shows at the grahamstown art festival in south africa. as she told it, it was pretty much is response to all teh people she had come across who didn't want to hear about politics...

was pretty dubious about it then, still pretty dubious about it now.

but the shows were &*&*#$ fantastic. esp when she ended off with ballad of penny evans on the final night. a memory that will stay with me forever...
