Great video, always good to see progress being made with the retriever. A good vest would help that dog a lot. It keeps the dog higher out of the water so they can see better and they don't get as tired because they don't have to keep pushing up to stay above the surface.
My dog is a female 1 year old and this is her fist year. She does great sitting in the blind but needs work on marking. Plenty of time to work on that I figure.
There has been 3 times while jump shooting she has caught a duck trying to hide in the tweeds. These birds are not wounded. I was just wondering if this should be encouraged and if not, is there a way to stop it?
For me I would go with a golden retriever but it really don't matter and the best duck dogs are " Little River Duck Dogs " the best duck dogs ever i got a Golden retriever little river mix
It takes alot of practice with your dog to do this . . . I would start by setting up your decoys in a field area and getting a rubber mallerd tie a rope around its neck and start training her/him lab
Dogs are a huge help when you knock birds down really far away. but they are a pain in the ass when they bring back the duck and a dozen or so decoys. ours has brought back about 18 decoys on ganglines.
Its all in the training. I train my dog in the backyard with decoys all over the yard and throw a dummy to teach her to avoid decoys, it works really well if your dog has this problem.
awesome vid... can't wait till i can have a dog and train him or her to do the same.

Hunting on a lake like that is dumb. Them ducks must be dumb to land in that choppy water.

mojosmadness2 2 years ago
@mojosmadness2 which everone is trained better
goose330 2 years ago
Labradors mature faster and generally more responsive but if you put the effort and time a Golden should be just as good :)
