Lincoln was a republican. The polarized two party system we have today did not exist during Washington's tenure, nor Jefferson's. Furthermore, Jefferson favored states rights and limited federal government (conservative tenets). And what exactly was so great about Kennedy?

Radical republicans were a faction of the republican party at the time. Lincoln was not part of that faction. I understand that you are speaking in a broad historical context, but you are viewing it through the lens of modern polarized politics and todays issues, which is not accurat in my view. I didn't hate on Kennedy I simply think he is romanticized far beyond his actual accomplishments. He did support the civil rights movement, to his credit, but he also started US involvement in Vietnam

I guess my disagreement with your viewpoints is based on two key issues. The first is that you lump Lincoln, Jefferson, and Washington together with modern liberals, when the isssues that define modern liberals didn't come to the fore until the late 19th early 20th century. You can try to argue what party you think they would be a member of today, but that is a matter of opinion more than anything else.

I reread the DoI just for you, and I would say that modern liberal thought is certainly in line with the preamble, but I wouldn't say that the preamble sanctions liberal policy.

True, many of the biggest changes to central government have come from the left, new administrations, big government programs (New Deal, SS, etc.). Poorly written, and the bit about Barrack's middle name was in horrible taste. Worst of all- none of it was very relavent, and it seemed that they were grabbing for whatever would appeal to their politically specific audience (assuming that they have a politically-narrow audience, which is what i surmised).
Perhaps it would be better to get a host that could pull off a decent joke without it actually seeming like acting. I just didn't feel the passion! :(
