  • JUS another load of WAFFLE..people call Starchaser industries as being dreamers but at least he has launched something and shown positive test results..these have shown only animations and big piece of blue neon lighted plastic as a display for an engine..nothing actually errr real though..hey Willets summed it up for me.Saying .we'll wait to see the engine test results and look at what we can do after that..ah well

  • It's a cool concept.

    But it's not as cool as their Skylon plane concept.

    Skylon tops out at Mach 25 (12 times faster than Concorde!)

    Skylon is only about 10 years out.

  • Also, the airplane would extremely expensive to run since the hydrogen process still very energy intensive by using alot of electricity, coal, natural gas or whatever.

  • It is too bad that hydrogen is such an inefficient way to store energy. I give credit to the designers for coming up with an interesting possibility, but there are a lot of things that would have to be done to make this a concept a reality. The first that comes to mind is the weight of the hydrogen storage tanks on the aircraft. the second is that there are very few airports in the world that have runways long enough for supersonic aircraft to operate out of.

  • Two points you mentioned were not entirely correct. Firstly, the maximum speed the A2 will be achieving is Mach 5, not Mach 8 as you mentioned. Secondly, the plane is not entirely 'green', even though they use liquid hydrogen made from turbines. As it's a supersonic plane, it will be travelling at high altitudes, thus damaging the ozone layer, which is protecting the earth from harmful UV radiation.

  • @stockshunter the second alternative that LAPCAT studied could travel at mach 8, though was not a very feasible idea because of higher fuel consumption to accelerate to that speed, greatly reduced range, and massive takeoff weights. Also the plane only travels at an altitude of 25 km, the ozone is at 30 to 40 km above earth
