I think Nokia still excels in the smartphone market, despite all the delays. Symbian is most feature-packed OS right out of the box. And to be honest, you don't really need apps (except for games, of course) if you get a Nokia smartphone. Apple's iOS and Google's Android is nothing without their application stores (and the apps there) -- is that what they call innovative? Come on people, don't lie.

The nokia apps can't be uninstalled and are a pain in the arse as you can't change the defaults either. settings can't be changed to the extent more advanced users usually would like. jailbreaking is a pain in the A. @weeabou Well for me, Symbian might not be as customizable as Android, webOS and Maemo/MeeGo are, but come to think of it -- it's not a closed platform where you can't customize anything -- for instance, iOS and Windows Phone: can you change themes? Add new fonts or something? Of course not, because Apple+Microsoft won't let you. Although customization may not be advanced for Symbian, at least you still can customize.
As far as software updates are concerned, it now receives SUs, continuously.

Firstly it's 12MP. Not 8MP. Then there's the Xenon flash. Oh and the web Flash. Can't forget the free sat-nav. For life. Nor the USB on the go. Neither Bluetooth 3.0. Must mention the HDMI out. Not to forget the Dolby Digital. What about the FM transmitter? Or widgets? How about the price? Best of all, you can make phone calls with it. No matter how you hold it, not to mention a long battery life. Better than any HTC.. Can't play iFart on it though.

Nokia is indeed OUTDATED. Like this one here, look how clumsy it is, how bad user interface it has, and how _slow_ it is. It looks way too messy - other Smartphones are aiming for simplicity and ease of use. Looking at the newest HTC models - take HTC Desire for example - they are mini-computers! Nokia is still... well... just a motherfucking cellphone.
and about symbian popularity,symbian is the most used smartphone OS to date,even sony ericsson used it and samsung on phones like the i8910,but symbian is not anymore a good choice,so they moved out,but maybe they use it on those weack phones that doesnt have a decent hardware.

@ZodiaMC I disagree with your statement about phones running the Android OS needing 1GHz to be able to run smoothly. I have the G1, which is the first phone to run the Android OS, which has a 528 MHz CPU and it runs smooth as the newest phones.
As for Nokia, I've always liked the phones, heck for the longest time I even wanted the N95 but as you may not know. Buying a high end Nokia here is hard, there are no incentives, you have to buy at full price. That is why I never got one.
really? maybe the g1 is an exception, because i heard from a lot of people who bought the first phones (the G1 was not available here in germany) that they lagged sometimes, but since the GHZ got higher, therer were no problems...
maybe its the same with nokia in the usa, like with motorla in germany (they have a hard standing here - so , not many people buy moto-phones anymore)

theoratically Symbian is the oldest and the most lightweight and the most featurepacked oses out there in present day. I have looked at some videos of N8 running website. I know its not the most "user friendly" but it is cool nontheless. BTW galaxy phone or any 512ram android phone end up having 100-200ram available to users due the the HEAVY OS functions and all the online features. AND the BIGGEST reason for anyone buying N8 will be the multitasking smoothness and SUPER DUPER BATTERY LIFE.

@clawinureface u forgot to mention that it also has 512mb of ROM, oh and it has an awesom 12mp camera. it also has java support. able to project through a hdtv via hd lead. all of which is far beyond that of what everyone will compare it too the iphone 4. as for the RAM comment it may only have 256mb but what clock speed? a higher clock speed can make up for lower ammounts such as my pc only 4gb 2000mhz but its able to handle more that my cousins 8gb 800mhz ram. also heard symbian4 is due 2011

Will the Web browsing experience be real life PC like, like the one in n900 or iPhone.. Can it run youtube and facebook (not the mobile version) and even chat on facebook? and wouldn't run out of memory or something while loading heavy pages like other nokia phones?!

@MrBendyStraws There will be a QWERTY version of N8. It could be the N8 qwerty or could be called E7. The best part is that it has a 4" screen and it looks RAD! And its thinner than most qwerty phones! :)

Got to use one myself, and while I originally had zero plans of buying this or any other new phone cos my old one still works, after trying this out myself, I'm definitely buying it.

it is not that different then the n97. they maybe using a better processor but it is still the old looking symbian. such a shame, they should have go with android with these kind of devices, i think you´d apply a bigger group. the specs are good, but i know that the system will not be that good as android or iOS. dont bye this phone if you are a high end internet user.
@DJblastyfone I'm giving up on Android. Even after the 2.2 update, hardly any apps updated for SD storage. Awful, awful 720p video recording and terrible battery life. Symbian may not have the eye candy, but it works, and with features like these, I'm in line for an N8, or maybe the N9 with qwerty. Love the HDMI out - download a film using a S60 P2P app, and watch with HD and Dolby Digital!
And again just another Symbian phone witch will not be an iphone killer!!

@XratedAbir Yes, but N8 isn't meant to compete with high-end phones. Its more like mid-high end phone that does things that a high end phone can. Nokia already said that Symbian will be used for low and mid-end. And MeeGo for High-end. So we cant say anything now until we see MeeGo in action.........

The OS is a whole separate torment and pain, but what astonishes, amazes, kills me - is the rubbish, lame and hurtfully bizarre design Nokia came up with! Any HTC's 'brick' design looks 10 times more thought through than this ... the only question now is: "what were designers smokin' ?!"

-_- zzz nokia you need to know that ovi maps and symbian suck ..android is the best platform for smartphones right now (apart from apple with the overrated and way overpriced iphone obviously).. and having a good camera is ok but no matter how many pixels the camera is, the touch screen should be something more advanced (amoled) and it shouldn't be bloody glitchly =/ (3:05) and its gotta be a responsive capacitive touch screen (e.g. >>> samsung galaxy s!!!!)

where have they fallen behind? only because you´ve got a bigger "app store" for iphone and android? get real. even the connection to microsoft outlook sucks at most android phones , on some it does not even work. for people like me, who dont need those "apps" wasting your money on "android" and "iOS" is a waste of time.
The specs are one of the best,. android phones have 1ghz in them, because otherwise, android wouldn´t run smooth - fucks up battery life, too.

@ZodiaMC I disagree with your statement about phones running the Android OS needing 1GHz to be able to run smoothly. I have the G1, which is the first phone to run the Android OS, which has a 528 MHz CPU and it runs smooth as the newest phones.
As for Nokia, I've always liked the phones, heck for the longest time I even wanted the N95 but as you may not know. Buying a high end Nokia here is hard, there are no incentives, you have to buy at full price. That is why I never got one.

really? maybe the g1 is an exception, because i heard from a lot of people who bought the first phones (the G1 was not available here in germany) that they lagged sometimes, but since the GHZ got higher, therer were no problems...
maybe its the same with nokia in the usa, like with motorla in germany (they have a hard standing here - so , not many people buy moto-phones anymore)

theoratically Symbian is the oldest and the most lightweight and the most featurepacked oses out there in present day. I have looked at some videos of N8 running website. I know its not the most "user friendly" but it is cool nontheless. BTW galaxy phone or any 512ram android phone end up having 100-200ram available to users due the the HEAVY OS functions and all the online features. AND the BIGGEST reason for anyone buying N8 will be the multitasking smoothness and SUPER DUPER BATTERY LIFE.

@clawinureface The only weak point of the device are the subject of applications, but look at the multimedia aspect: it brings the latest generation audio, hdmi port, 12MP camera with xenon flash, flash lite 4 and the system that brings the graphics never seen before .

@clawinureface Hay que recalcar que aunque el procesador sea de tan solo 672 MHZ cuenta con dos núcleos y tecnología aceleradora, fuera de eso en la pagina web oficial de Nokia dice: que symbian 3 es un sistema rápido, además la increíble compatibilidad con mas de 1 millon de aplicaciones java y symbian.

@clawinureface u forgot to mention that it also has 512mb of ROM, oh and it has an awesom 12mp camera. it also has java support. able to project through a hdtv via hd lead. all of which is far beyond that of what everyone will compare it too the iphone 4. as for the RAM comment it may only have 256mb but what clock speed? a higher clock speed can make up for lower ammounts such as my pc only 4gb 2000mhz but its able to handle more that my cousins 8gb 800mhz ram. also heard symbian4 is due 2011

As for the camera, no i dont have first hand experiance but ive had nokias with the carl ziess optics in the past and the 5mp camera on my n95 was comparable to the 8mp camera on my current samsung. all N series phones have decent cameras. also u say how can i say the camera is good when i have not used one how can u say its a rubbish phone? unless of course u have one lol

but Galaxy has an ARM Cortex A8 1GHz processor (double the N8's) and a 512MB RAM (again double) and a 2GB ROM (4 times the n8) :O
Wouldn't all these factors be responsible for better browsing in Galaxy than n8? (cuz most of the nokia phones seems to run of of memory and RAM while loading heaving pages)
but also n8 has better flash lite version and GPU, but is it enough to win the edge?

@DJblastyfone I'm giving up on Android. Even after the 2.2 update, hardly any apps updated for SD storage. Awful, awful 720p video recording and terrible battery life. Symbian may not have the eye candy, but it works, and with features like these, I'm in line for an N8, or maybe the N9 with qwerty. Love the HDMI out - download a film using a S60 P2P app, and watch with HD and Dolby Digital!

@XratedAbir Yes, but N8 isn't meant to compete with high-end phones. Its more like mid-high end phone that does things that a high end phone can. Nokia already said that Symbian will be used for low and mid-end. And MeeGo for High-end. So we cant say anything now until we see MeeGo in action.........
