One of my pet peeves is European countries with single payer health care systems that only buy generic drugs. That lets them benefit from the medical research US consumers pay for by buying name brand drugs without paying their fair share for the research. I don't know much about ACTA, but a treaty that forces Europeans to buy name brand drugs (most medical research is US based) sounds good for the US, and good for young people (it should fund next gen drug research).

And 30 years from now we could give everyone 30 year old medical technology cheaply too. If you want NEW medical technology someone has to pay. Today people in the US pay for new technology, some (not all) countries in Europe free ride. They pay generic rates so that they can avoid paying the costs for developing new drugs. It's one reason US rates are high.
