I took my old sim card and put it in the iphone and it worked! i could call and text, but couldn't get on the internet. But if you want to use the internet you can just get a internet plan. I work for DirecTV and thankgod I get a discount on the data plan service because there is no way I could afford that thing. I spoke to AT&T and they said they do not care if you go to the unlockit website because the simcard in your Iphone will rat you out and tell them you removed the data plan which is a breach of contract cause they told me the contract states you must have a data plan and if they find out you removed it which they will they will legally charge you backcharges and a penalty.

its legit. i was not charged for data. you can also check under settings > general > usage to make sure the data remains at 0 bytes. also, if they catch on say that you went back to your old phone, thats another way to not get charged for data.

I just did this myself, and it works fine. You can check your cellular data use (edge, not wifi), by going to settings > general > usage. At the bottom it will say "Cellular Network Data", with sent and recieved in bytes. If you did this properly, you can check that to make sure you are still at 0 bytes for both. If that number increases, you will get charged by the byte.

You guys can also call your cell phone provider and tell them to disable the data usage on your iphone and make sure to tell them that u only want to use the wifi from your home and that you don't want to use the 3g that way if you get billed for data usage at any point after that you can always call them back and tell them that you had called and had it disabelled.
Oh really, that sux then...Here in Toronto they try to influence you on getting the data plan but it's not mandatory. Are you sure they won't let you get the phone without the data plan, I don't see how that's something they can force you to buy, double check again. yes they will let you buy it but you wont get the 50$ rebate and might charge you a bit more for the phone. If it doesn't work when you order it online try it a kiosk.
Fido currently charges $99 for a 8mb 3G with a data plan on 3 year contract (or $150 for a 3GS) and $329 for for a 3G with NO data plan on 3 year contract. With NO data plan and NO contract the 3G is $600.
If you've purchased your 3G for $99 they will gladly cancel your data plan and charge you a $200 cancellation fee.
That's how the contracts work. They are not "forcing" you to pay for data. (Gouging maybe, but not forcing...).
Ok what if AT&T says, "You still have an iphone3g just reset it and everything should work fine, like they told me. And they still charged me a 99.99 monthly bill. I don't Think this will work out very well.

if you r in canada, the block isn't complete. they only block their own company, which is either fido or rogers, and they don't block the other partnering company. so they say its not complete block.

its legit. i was not charged for data. you can also check under settings > general > usage to make sure the data remains at 0 bytes. also, if they catch on say that you went back to your old phone, thats another way to not get charged for data.

ok i have one question. my first bill said something about updates on my iphone and the bill was like 300 plus (im on fam plan with mom) and i was wondering if i did do this and put my sim card back in the iphone would the bill come up to that amount again because when my dad called att they said that iphone access the web by itself on edge to update itself

I just did this myself, and it works fine. You can check your cellular data use (edge, not wifi), by going to settings > general > usage. At the bottom it will say "Cellular Network Data", with sent and recieved in bytes. If you did this properly, you can check that to make sure you are still at 0 bytes for both. If that number increases, you will get charged by the byte.

please reply, i have the 2g iphone its 2.0 and its locked,. my friend gave it too me and i put my old sim card in it, i want to activate it but in order to i need the data plan if i activate with the data plan at first then do this will it shut it off? if soo please tell me and will it work and its the iphone 2g

You guys can also call your cell phone provider and tell them to disable the data usage on your iphone and make sure to tell them that u only want to use the wifi from your home and that you don't want to use the 3g that way if you get billed for data usage at any point after that you can always call them back and tell them that you had called and had it disabelled.

I don't see how that can work. They won't LET you buy the phone without the data plan. I'm really confused.

Oh really, that sux then...Here in Toronto they try to influence you on getting the data plan but it's not mandatory. Are you sure they won't let you get the phone without the data plan, I don't see how that's something they can force you to buy, double check again. That's a feature that I don't think they are entitled to make u buy

Its true AtnT Won't allow you to remove your Data Plan Even if you block Data Usage You still get screw with the bill :(...The reps tell you they cant turn it off

yes they will let you buy it but you wont get the 50$ rebate and might charge you a bit more for the phone. If it doesn't work when you order it online try it a kiosk.

This is how it works:
Fido currently charges $99 for a 8mb 3G with a data plan on 3 year contract (or $150 for a 3GS) and $329 for for a 3G with NO data plan on 3 year contract. With NO data plan and NO contract the 3G is $600.
If you've purchased your 3G for $99 they will gladly cancel your data plan and charge you a $200 cancellation fee.
That's how the contracts work. They are not "forcing" you to pay for data. (Gouging maybe, but not forcing...).

Ok what if AT&T says, "You still have an iphone3g just reset it and everything should work fine, like they told me. And they still charged me a 99.99 monthly bill. I don't Think this will work out very well.

Ok.. but when you use your SIM in this 3G... AT&A will track the IMEI and will know you are using an iphone without a data plan..
try to go to your AT&T webpage... you will "my phone" changed to an iphone...
im supposed to recieve an new bill soon.. if it was high I will be screwed...

I recently just bought a used iphone on ebay. Im currently a AT&T user. I had to activate the phone through iTunes. When i activated it, it changed my data plan automatically. When i called AT&T customer care, they said there is nothing i can do except to get back to my old phone if you do not want to pay for internet. What do I have to do? Should I call AT&T and tell them im going back to my old phone and then jailbreak it?

if you r in canada, the block isn't complete. they only block their own company, which is either fido or rogers, and they don't block the other partnering company. so they say its not complete block.

if i can get a iphone 3g on ROGERS & not get any data plan but just the talkin plan wich is 25$ for the minutes or w.e . Does this work on rogers? I am not going to take the data plan because right now on fido we are obligated to get the data plan i dont wannt to pay for something i dont use so is it possible on ROGERS PLEASE REPLY i need to get the phone and dont want to make a HOLE in my pants for the price! Why not just go to:
SETTINGS > GENERAL > NETWORK > DATA ROAMING - OFF ?
Am I missing something - that seems easier and doesn't need a connection top achieve

Hey....after I downloaded the profile and turn off wi-fi the E symbol for EDGE still appears besides the rogers network signal.....is that okay?
