This was dexys on the tube november 1982. me and me marra were at the front of the stage that night. I THINK PAUL YOUNG WAS THE WARM UP ACT. GREAT MEMORIES.
I bought this cassette when "come on Eileen" was out. Now that is the song I skip over. Kevin is brilliant. The arrangements are unique.. You have to be a little crazy to be truly brilliant....
This guy had passion.......imagine, this is what we used to have on Top of the Pops........Dexy's, The Jam, The Specials, Buzzcocks etc......I can't help feeling British pop lost something around 1987 with the Stock-aitkin-waterman sound taking over.

Not many bands open with a b-side that is simply 'this is us and this is what we are giving to you tonight' .... pure perfection !! After nearly 30 years this song still makes the hair stand up on my neck. Kevin Rowland was a slave driver who often treated his band with contempt but this was the result.

Well from my (American) perspective. They remind me a lot like Madness. Not necessarily the sound, but the Britishness of the music. I think It was just too big of a leap for American kids to make at the time. There 'Passion' came out as sloppy and unclean, and in the eighties I felt we were looking for a crisper catchy sound. Now as time passes groups like Dexys and Madness etc are much more appreciated.
I saw the Dexy's twice in New York. They were fantastic. I don't care if they never "made" it in the states. Who says the states know more about music then anyone else. I love this band
incredible live performance... then again, dexys were always famous for giving value for money.... any bands out these days putting that level of perfomance in? i doubt it
Despite the dreadful country bumpkin get up's and "Come On Eileen" being bludgeoned to death on the radio here on the States I still loved this band and this track was my fave off the 2nd Lp, cool to hear it live. "Give me a record that cries pure and true".

I care little for what those who can't handle free expression think. And being someone with a musical background I can separate the chaff from the wheat. They are a one-hit-wonder band which thankfully faded into relative obscurity.
Whinging on about your "free expression" lends nothing to the value of your opinion.
The "one hit" they had in America was after their Northern Soul period, when Rowland started cracking up, released "Too Rye Ooh Rye Aye" and that's a bad record.
