  • nice vid. :)

  • Kevin Rowland, your singing makes me feel good. That's a gift not many have today. I salute you.

  • This was dexys on the tube november 1982. me and me marra were at the front of the stage that night. I THINK PAUL YOUNG WAS THE WARM UP ACT. GREAT MEMORIES.

  • So much energy poured into this performance its unreal. No wonder kevin had a bit of a breakdown. The man's a genius.

  • das wahr die erste band die mir gefallen hatt 1982 meine erste platte wahr com on eileen einfach super damals die habe ich immer noch

  • I always thought 'Come on Eileen' was a porn film.

  • @funnygames1 Th' fuck are you smokin'? xD

  • umas das melhores bandas que ja apareceu no rock pena que ja acabou cade o kevin ta vivo ainda ??

  • I bought this cassette when "come on Eileen" was out. Now that is the song I skip over. Kevin is brilliant. The arrangements are unique.. You have to be a little crazy to be truly brilliant....

  • Kevin Rowland.Thank you.The great underated genius of my generation.

  • Now you're talkin'!

  • Remember how dungarees used to be so popular in the early eighties, esp with the rockabilly's ?

  • One of my most played albums when I was 16....did it make me popular? No...Did I care? Not a bit lol I still love listening to them ":)

  • This guy had passion.......imagine, this is what we used to have on Top of the Pops........Dexy's, The Jam, The Specials, Buzzcocks etc......I can't help feeling British pop lost something around 1987 with the Stock-aitkin-waterman sound taking over.

  • @arfer Valid point but good stuff emerged in the late 90's with the brit pop movement - radiohead, mansun, portishead are good examples, then it all went wrong again! Maybe we're due another good spell soon.

  • absolutely brilliant, made my day.

  • timeless!

  • Fantastic post - great memories - thanks a lot.

  • fucking brilliant. where would they be on the x factor though? nowhere, hey kids listen up great music is out there if you look for it. kev rowland you legend.

  • Not many bands open with a b-side that is simply 'this is us and this is what we are giving to you tonight' .... pure perfection !! After nearly 30 years this song still makes the hair stand up on my neck. Kevin Rowland was a slave driver who often treated his band with contempt but this was the result.

  • Simply one of the greatest albums ever made.

Who cares if Kevin Rowland is gone crazy?

Thanks Kevin, for this album alone you always be a hero to me and millions of other people.

  • @oliaiguambfigues76 Since when has Kevin Rowland gone crazy?

  • @ANNABECKDK better now

  • this is amazing and one of many from the album. along with Marc Bolan, kevin Rowland was a brilliant artist with a great voice

  • the problem with this is the trendies who liked the come on eileen look, couldnt appreciate soul music. when they realised there wasnt more trash they moved on to the next trend, and by then the soulies ,mods etc who liked soul had moved on from dexys..........................crying shame really

  • They were so incredible. One of my faves. Kevin's vocals were so unique and pure.

  • excellent version

  • excellent version.

As far as there lack of success in the states.

Well from my (American) perspective. They remind me a lot like Madness. Not necessarily the sound, but the Britishness of the music. I think It was just too big of a leap for American kids to make at the time. There 'Passion' came out as sloppy and unclean, and in the eighties I felt we were looking for a crisper catchy sound. Now as time passes groups like Dexys and Madness etc are much more appreciated.

  • I saw the Dexy's twice in New York. They were fantastic. I don't care if they never "made" it in the states. Who says the states know more about music then anyone else. I love this band

  • i love it

  • Genius song from a brilliant band and a unique writer. Thanks.

  • All time Fave early 80's great band who did so much more than "come on Eileen" love the trombone- great sound not quite so keen on the dungarees!

  • pure soul from a punk heart

  • @electrobooty do you mean PUUUUUAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!! soul from a punk heart?

  • @ANNABECKDK

fe sure pure from in here

  • @ANNABECKDK

    still striving

  • incredible live performance... then again, dexys were always famous for giving value for money.... any bands out these days putting that level of perfomance in? i doubt it

  • @1.52 is one of my favourite changes in a song, fucking class. i fucking love dexys, shame they don't make an impression on the youth nowadays

  • I have this on video (same tape has the Jam's last live TV from the Tube) but it snapped. Must get it transferred to DVD!

  • Holy shit. I thought that bass sounded great. If my eyes didn't deceive me I think that's an Alembic. (1:26)

  • fking top tune what happened to rowlands ,sftysr still one of the great albumd

  • class

  • Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • The real deal!!!!!!!!

  • Despite the dreadful country bumpkin get up's and "Come On Eileen" being bludgeoned to death on the radio here on the States I still loved this band and this track was my fave off the 2nd Lp, cool to hear it live. "Give me a record that cries pure and true".

  • At 2:08 and onwards he says:

anominor-turn it on don't touch that dial if its pure ah i feel it from me ah - tomlindas bad influentses thank you very much i live to back home borravillyham

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA-AAAA-AAAA-OOH!!! I DON LOW - I DON LOW BUT HOU!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA-A--AAA-A-A-A-OOH!!! I DON LOW - I DON LOW BUT HOU!

    (lets go)

    come-on-come-on Lets make this precious

    (avrabeeprabably)

  • singing live .... TOTP ....... that`s the way

  • Love the song, but i must admit my love for the Tribute from the guys at "Big train" .

  • @visigothic67 I gotta admit, I wasn't aware of this lovely song till I saw it on Big Train. Such goodness...

  • Does he mean it?

  • Every word.

  • @markredding1972 Then let's sing it :)

  • @retro007 Of course, of course!

  • Is gypsies yes?

  • As everyone else has already stated, they are an extremely underrated band, but most people only know them for come on eileen, and SOMETIMES, Geno

  • true.don't stand me down is the perfection though.the waltz is heartbreaking don't you find?

  • Awesome, still listen to dexys stuff all these years after they were at their peak, a fantastic band, and as post 1 says, sad they are remembered for 1 song. they did so much great stuff.

  • Very underrated band, so sad they are only remembered for one song

  • PUUUUUAAAAAAAAAA-AAA(A)(A)(A)!!! well, a this much free, it has to be wheel, i think i'm gonna bin around on this.

PUUUUUAAAAAAAAAAAAA - LETS MAKE THIS PUUUUUUREE(E)(E)(E)(E)!!!!!

    (get it?)

  • Radical!!!

  • scruffy coonts!!

  • im 17 years old and these are one of my fvourite bands of all time

  • remember staring up into Kevin's hairy armpit at the Kabuki in San Francisco - great concert

  • Hey, billnori: Brilliant vid on a briliant channel, too;-)!

  • They look like 'the wurzels', but sound a whole

    lot better.Class.

  • I love Dexy's. Too Rye Aye s a great album and Searching for the Young Soul Rebels is one of the best debut albums of all time.

  • An absolution distillation of everything that Dexy's and Kevin stand for. Striving ever nearer to perfection.

  • This is also one of my favourite albums, DMR are more than just one hit wonders.

  • black country hero

  • WOLVERHAMPTONS FAVOURITE SON!!!

  • I agree with jmedia1: music!!!!!!. Great, great, great...

  • you may not have heard this joyandian, because it was a b-side!

    to jackie wilson said...

  • What a band! What a record! The album was my best friend for 20yrs!!!

  • Man alive, I love this band. Give me a night of Dexy's and a load od the oul Pogues and I'm happy as. Thanks fo posting this

  • That is a band at the top of their game. Great stuff.

  • AWESOME!!!!

why havent i heard of this song before??????????/

  • .... Dexys best days ...... great !!!

  • i'm wedded to the album version, as it remains one of my favourite songs ever - thanks for posting this.

One of the only bands to ever touch absolute perfection.

  • One of their best. Top band.

  • cool song.i hadn't heard it before.great energy.

  • MUSIC!

  • Awesome.

  • Dexys' best song - thanks for posting the live version. They were unbelievable for a while there.

  • simply one of the best song.

  • i went on to go out with the fiddle player when she joined

  • Love this band!

  • Awesome!

  • This is the real deal!! Fuck simon cowell and his britains got no talent x factor shit!!!!!!

  • Too right. I can just imagine the Idol judges with this one: "Ah, yeah, Kevin. It was a bit pitchy for me, you know dude".

  • superb english band and kev is a genius

    no contest

  • Wait... there are actually people who think this song is bad?

  • have to agree with the poster... brilliant song from a brilliant band. just sorry i didn't get to see them on the too-rye-aye tour.

  • I'm in the audience, bang at the front... Friday evenings at the tube then out on the lash in Newcastle. Brilliant days

  • Haha.

  • thank fuck for dexys pure real music !!!

  • I love it when people intentionally look at stuff on hear just to mock it, what's the fucking point? Mr Roland went a bit strange later on - wearing dresses on-stage etc' - The Beatles were apparently 'Gods' no one says that about Wings. Who gives a fuck how Dexy's did in America, they were a British band, back here they mattered....unlike Blink 182 or Guns 'n' Roses - fake punk and cock-rock!

  • @CHRISAMBIENCE - I agree with you I love DMR, and I dont care for the Bealtes anymore. I would love to hear more of Kevin Rowlands music, I love his voice. I would like to meet this man.

  • @CHRISAMBIENCE yar rite budderino...loved being part o the 80s...DMR's were gd music end o story!-)

  • @CHRISAMBIENCE BBC NEWS POLL- UK VOTERS

Top of the poll: Guns N' Roses

Guns N' Roses' anthem Sweet Child O' Mine has the greatest guitar riff ever, according to a poll in a music monthly. Top 3 voted by British fans

    1. Sweet Child O' Mine - Guns N' Roses

    2. Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana

    3. Whole Lotta Love - Led Zeppelin

  • @LOKISlog7 whats guitar riffs got to do withsoul music?

  • @gordj65 It was a reply tp a person who made a statement that Guns and Roses didnt matter in England. The poll is an ENGLISH poll; that states a differing opinion to that of the author. Look 5 comments up

  • fantastic! dare to be different! great trombone.

    rapping with a brummy accent

  • woteva

  • Nice spelling, retard.

  • Nice attitude, wanker.

  • Well, fuck off then you piece of worthless shit. How about that as a free speech

  • Who said anything about free speech? I said attitude, ya zero. Calling something worthless out of hand doesn't make you seem smart, you know. It makes you seem like someone who has a hard time keeping friends.

  • How thick do you have to be to realize a matter of opinion is different from a fact. Keep digging--you'll get out of that hole someday.

  • No, I was referring to my opinion that they were a good northern soul band, vs. your opinion that they suck.

Expand your horizons, kid. There's more to life than your opinions. I don't like pickle relish. That doesn't mean it's garbage. It just means it's not to my taste.

Plus, when your opinions get roundly downvoted (not by me) on a freaking internet site, you can bet you're not expressing them very effectively. It just makes you sound like a dick.

    /feeding troll.

  • Whinging on about your "free expression" lends nothing to the value of your opinion.

The "one hit" they had in America was after their Northern Soul period, when Rowland started cracking up, released "Too Rye Ooh Rye Aye" and that's a bad record. You obviously have no concept of British music history from this period, so do me and everyone else a favor, and learn about Northern Soul.

Then please fuck off, you tiresome ballbag.

*Blocked* How's that for your "free expression?"

    Tit.
