I was stationed at Loring in the late 80's, having grown up in Los Angeles, this was a big culture shock, I actually kind of liked it up there, except for the snow, lol.
i live at the apartments a few streets over....crappy place to live....lol. i used to go to hilltop elementary to hangout with my friends, gosh when i was 10 we used to terrorize the vending machines at the baseball fields. lol.
Was stationed at Loring from '86 to '87 and have vague memories of Caribou. Do remember going to Grand Falls on the weekends to carouse. 'Suzannes' I believe it was.

omfg you can't forget about MARDENS! lmfao I was up in Limestone, ME for a few months god that old ladie ticked me off. Thanks for the tour I really miss ME!
I miss Reno's pizza! But other then that I don't miss it much. I think I still have a childhood friend who still lives there. Roger Marks. If anyone knows the family let me know please.
I've lived in maine my whole life and still have not been to caribou , I just go up thear and geta ova with. To tell you the truth it looks like a big town for the state of maine.
Aww, its not too bad. I admit there isn't much to do really, but its unique and has lots of open space. Not too bad a place. I wish I could have gotten more of the town to really give people a view. I will admit that it isn't quite what it used to be.
The winter has been going on since november now. We are breaking the record of the most snow today. If we get the ten inches expected, I break the record. Almost 200 inches. Where's global warming when you need it.
I was stationed at Loring too... 1992-94... I had a blast! I hated that they closed the base. Spent many weekends in Grand Falls partying at Friday's. I would love to go back to visit the area, just to see how its changed.
Yeah, we miss that base here a lot too. The only thing that has really changed is that it seems to have gone downhill a bit, more people moving away than moving to the area.
loved that video. grew up there on Smith st and try to visit as much as possible. would like video of Smith St going down High St to downtown. Keep up good work
I love caribou. The holton farms is the best. I go there all the time in the summer when I'm up visiting family. I know exactly where you are. (in the video)
Thanks I, I am a big fan of Houlton Farms too. I just wanted to prove to my friends from New York, New Jersey, New Hampshire and such that it actually exists because most think its so small.
Roads havent changed much since i left 26 years ago. LOL

Wow---did I miss the downtown? Used to live at Loring around 1970. Would go there for some shopping or to the "big" town of Presque Isle. :)

Well, I will admit there is not a whole lot to go to Caribou for, but it's a nice place to visit and very scenic.
datblonddood 3 years ago
It is very scenic and you should just take a trip up sometime. It is a decent sized town, being the second biggest in Aroostook County.
datblonddood 3 years ago
and yet it still only took me not even an hour to walk across town :P
Can't wait to do it again in June.

Woohoo! It's Caribou! The crappy city. Finally others get to see what it's like up here. Thank ya.

In the summer this place is pretty nice. Other than that....I feel pretty trapped. Then again, it is Maine.
ThenYouStand 4 years ago
This is certainly true. I will admit the winters are a bit much at times.

I think its kind of fun breaking the record, although it would be nice if it quit soon.

I remember 20ft. snow banks when I was a kid and that was a loooong time ago. So Caribou isn't going to see any global warning for a while. :}

Hi- I was at Loring in the sixties and it seems strange not to go down Main St.- the bypass seems odd. Ed C
