@xsf908 Think CNN or something like conventional corporate media.
President Clarke was - in the Babylon 5 Universe - the Earth Alliance President , leader of Earth, and generally not a big believer in civil rights and all around non-nice guy.
@TheNigel01 Well, If you've ever watched Fox News or ABC, or NBC or even CBS nowadays - it's pretty clear there's no need to worry about this kind of thing happening. The closest Fox has to a journalist is whenever Shep Smith points out some obvious fact and is taken off the air for 2 weeks. Better to stick close to what Mr. Beck or O'Rielley say - because they love America...everyone else is just communists lurking - or so I'm told.
After reading some of the posts here I'am reminded of a quote Kosh once said on the show, "Truth is a three edged sword." It means there a three sides in every arguement, our side, their side, and somewhere in the middle, the real truth. The real truth about where our country, and the world, is going is somewhere between both points of view. Only each individuale can deciede what for him/her what the truth is. That is what real freedom is.
@gasdfw5 If you think this is chilling you should see the new reporter a few episodes later when ISN comes back online under the auspices of Clarks newly reformed Regime!
One can quote her as saying, "Due to the EXTREMELY Popular Martial LAw that has been issued......"
could you post the clip from "endgame" wherein the lady reporter from this clip is in tears as she welcomes back the viewers to the "real" non-clark ISN.
Love how this guy has the courage to report what is happening. He is not afraid of President Clark. Obama is starting to remind me of President Clark.
@jeffman52001 1) Clark's agenda for Earth wasn't socialist or communist--dictatorial, yes, but there have been dictatorships that weren't socialist or communist, and there was nothing in the show about Clark's socioeconomic policies. 2) *PLEASE* check the definitions of "socialism" and "communism" already!!! These terms aren't just synonyms for "bad" or "whatever you disagree with." Pay closer attention to the details of Obama's actual policies--not just the propaganda (from either side)!
@jeffman52001 We might be living in different parts of the US so maybe we are seeing different things, but I have yet to witness a press clampdown, or police or soldiers occupying neighborhoods or businesses or government offices.
Let it be told you from someone half of whose country WAS socialist: You don't have the hint of an idea what socialism is or looks like. Quite the contrary to your mudslinging, the likes of Nightwatch are made up by people such as you, for whom disagreeing with an ideology is treason.
@ohauss The socialist and fascist experiments of mass control of the people in the 20th century didn't work. Do you REALLY belive you have free will now. The corporates and governments are in bed with each other, and we are all slaves to them. And it will get worse as fuel and water supplies across the planet diminish and dwindle. And this is not an uneducated moron writing this. Check it out now.
@blagger56 that is bullshit. Every generation has someone who proclames that 'the goverments gone rotten etc, etc'. the truth is that it will not happen and most of it is just political crap and 'the grass is always greener on the other side.' Our world has never been a pretty place, it's just that the media of today broadcasts that 24/7.
to bannedbyMusloons, BadNflu3nce, AmericanPoliceState: Great job totally missing the point of both the scene and the larger plotline. JMS himself would tell you that you couldn't have it more backwards.
Whoever thinks this cannot happen is deluded what is happening In venezuela could and most likley will take place in the U.S and the rest of the western world as the commies take totally over. From then on it will be total civil war on a global scale that will last for generations most likely.
You'll probably never see something like this for real. Not that the US and parts of Europe aren't heading towards tyranny. They are. It's just that the corporate media is so in bed with the government, they'd never risk their networks, their jobs, or their lives to bring people the truth about what's really going on. You only see that kind of real, self-less journalism from individuals today. Many of them dying in places you don't know the names of, sadly quickly forgotten.
@imsiriustube I find your lack of faith disturbing. The reason why people dont speak out more often is A. they just arent being heard. B. dont believe that it has gotten so bad that they need to.
Oh dear. Let me tell you something, the one moving towards tyranny is you, because you cannot accept the freedom of others not to follow your ideology. People in Europe have LIVED through tyranny repeatedkly and the last thing they need is armchair experts for whom freedom of speech is the freedom to parrot their own ideology, people who are so disconnected from reality that they believe they and they alone know what "the truth" (TM) is.
corporate media is transnational even if they use superficially different brands to put a facade over your supreme lack of choice.
and the US COICA bill will make it perfectly possible to censor alt news globally without and kind of trial and solely on the whim of corporate media & other establishments.
@SCARREDMIND Even though your British news organizations like SkyNews is owned by Rupert Murdoch, the same owner of FOXNews in the USA, doesn't mean they (news organizations) are all under control by the same person or group.
Nationalist? Jumping to conclusions are we? Check profiles of people and their videos faves first to give you some clues. Be warned I have a rather extensive collection of faved videos, so I can be a tad bit confusing to pin into one of your asinine categories for people.
@PeoplesGeneral skynews was only the latest bit of the puzzle for murdoch in the uk...
the big problem is his control over papers & magasines.
news media is globalised, even the independent outlets, via the web. the difference is as to whether they have bowed their heads to the 'state capitalist'(google that one) dogma that is popular with authorities these days.
@SCARREDMIND "State Capitalist" haha... Come on... don't be afraid to say it... "Corporatism" aka "Fascism". No need to google, been listening to anti-globalists, and anti-elites for years.
What's funny about Babylon 5 is that you have One World Government that is somehow supposedly Democratic, which then falls under Clark's Dictatorship.
Then again, China's government system at least creates opportunities to be successful for the average person unlike North Korea's Dictatorship.
@PeoplesGeneral yea, your better listening to anti-statists then anti-globalists. the former being more consistent. before the fixed & drawn national borders of today people like the vikings had trade routes as far as india and america. couldnt do that these days with state sanctioned monopoly protections. aka the use of t6he state by corporations to prevent competition.
@SCARREDMIND Ultimately, it was those ancient merchants, money changers, and their trade routes which led to today's multi-national corporations, banking cartels, and regional economic unions.
@PeoplesGeneral state granted monopoly on trade caused that. these multi-national corporations couldnt exist without their bent copyright laws & other protection from market competition.
small businesses generate wealth & employment for an economy better better then corporations. the reason statists tout corporations as the wealth generators is due to their providing election funds to government members.
@imsiriustube Well, since you obviously are delluded enough to think the world is doomed, where is your documented proof? Or are you just spouting it in a burst of self-importance?
@Ares99999 You're telling me you don't think that there are people in some countries who have been killed/imprisoned for writing things that go against the people in power?
@paareth As they say - let the market provide. In a way it would be nice to say it was a little bit like the old Time Bandits admonishment on evil - Don't touch it - it's evil. Of course everyone does. But it's not that way. So we'll have to settle for Glenn Beck having a nervous breakdown on TV or accidentally/on purpose going over the line on seditious speech or something. Fox ultimately does have a self-correcting organ - and that's Fox legal which has already pulled Beck a couple of times.
This is like SOPA!

the problem today is that you have to agree with the left(democrats or the right(republicans). But there is no middle party.
Here in europe we still have the middle buffer party. But they get smaller and smaller.
So the future is grim because neither side is right all the time....
