Quite simply yes. you would need another 5970 2gb, though i think it is possible to use cards that different amount of memory (the higher card reduces it own available amount to match the lower card) thay have to be within the same hundreds series.
For example i have 2 5870s in crossfire, but I could have paired a 5870 with 5850, but the only problem here is the 5870 would underclock its self in both Core and Memory speed to match the 5850, thereby turning the 5870 into a 5850.
As long as the second card is a 5970 and has 2gb of memory, it will work. Brand does not matter. (By brand, i mean the brand of the card itself, not the GPU, eg: XFX, Powercolor, HIS etc..)
Nice rig, i have the same one (Antec 1200) with Crosshair IV, AMD Athlon II 1055t, Corsair H70, 8Gb DDR3, 64 Gb SSD, 2 - 1Tb WD HDD, but only one Ati 5870. It still smokes though and rules in folding@home scores!
@nascashoI got a single HD 5870 on my pc and the windows experience index thing or what ever you wanna call it, i mean the part where windows rate your pc how good is it. i got 7.8 there with none overclock. since you got the video card in crossfire whats the rating? i would like to add another card. thnx
Great vid, realy nice cable management. very tidy, im thinking of going CFX what kind of performance increases are you seeing? and do the card that you put in CFX have to be identical? e.g. i have a XFX HD 5870 XT would CFX work if i got a sapphire 5870 card and joined them or does it have to be another HD 5870 XT by XFX? many thanks. :)
Nice clean interior--good job. I just upgraed from an Antec 900. Was considering the 1200, but went instead for the Cooler Master Haf-X--it;s a beast of a case.
What are the tempratures on both cards in idle and full load? It looks to me like the upper HD5870 is not getting enough air and actually choking. I guess you put em in PCI-E 2.0 x16 (x16 mode).
hey mate , good work ;) nice pc , btw u dont use the case anymore ha do u ?? do u give it away ?:P so i could get a bigger case with cable management when ill get my i7. thanks man (y)
Dude were do you hide all of yur wires cuz I just build myself a computer with AMD 1090t 6 cores, 5870 vwith vapor x cooling (not crossfire) but with my wires on the motherboard to my power supply to my DVD drive to my hard drive and my five 120 mm fans and one big 200 mm fan, theres wires just about everywhere, even after tying them all down and trying to organize everything it still looks jinda clutered, how did you do it, or do you just not have any thing plugged in yet?
@MrBlackkoffee CrossfireX is current generation technology. It just means that the system will work with up to 4 GPU's. In this case it seems he's running 2 5970's and that is a total of 4 GPU's being used. Old school crossfire cards actually were specially marked as such and required an external cable to link them (a mutant sort of DVI if I remember right.). Not all, but most 4000 and 5000 series cards support scaling (CrossfireX). Low end ones don't.
@NoFreeTechSupport And it looks like I need to open my eyes and READ the description. It looked like 2 5970's at first glance, but turns out its 5870's. Oh well, my point is still valid that CrossfireX just means the system will scale to up to 4 GPU's and Crossfire is the old generation (I don't think the HD lineup, but previous to that...) In current use, Crossfire and CrossfireX mean the same. Unless your referring to a very old computer (Athlon FX era I believe).

@skibenz Well, you also mentioned cooling, and in my point of view, I think that kind of has to do with performance aswell :) but I just wanna know the reason why u recommand me XFX, just so I know WHY it's actually supposed to be better and stuff :)
@runescapeglobeskate Great warranty, tech support, you can replace fans and put WC on it and you will not avoid warranty, nice design, sometimes nice extras. But, if You want something cheaper - Gigabyte and stuff are pretty good too. I like XFX too as a brand - that's all :]
arg, gotta hate when you're pcie slots are so close together. It irks me to see graphics cards sandwitched together like that. Needs at an inch of seperation so the top video card can sufficently suck and blow air to keep it properly cooled.
I'm confused about how the PSU should go in the Antec 1200, should I put it facing up or down? I see it both ways in many builds and I don't know which is better, If i put it down will the fan suck any air into it? since there is no PSU fan intake, But if i put it face up won't it suck the hot air from inside the case? I need help, i'm buying one soon.
Thats sickkkkkkkkkk- i was going to buy the Antec 1200, i have the Antec 900 right now but i need more room, its to cluttered with a mid tower and 4 hard drives with a full size GPU and CPU heatsinks. Your setup is very impressive.
That is a very good looking system you have there. I also like how you set up a leg mount for the PSU to stand up higher for better airflow to come thru the PSU fan and to cool the heatsinks that's inside the PSU. Good idea. The Ram is looking nice and those the heat spreaders that are already on them, you can mount watercooling tubes to them.
Are all your fans the cooler master ones that are 90cfm, 18dba? Just a warning...those fans have about a 6-month life span and they vibrate. I have some in my HAF 932.
Nope, it's the way it's designed. Think of it as one of the only motherboards that actually have it "hard-coded". apparently you dont...cuz it sure isn't state solid disk...its a solid state drive..cant say you gave alot of info about it to the one asking what it was either
@roflhax Hey how can I transfer just my OS on a SSD? If not How do I delete the OS's (yes I have ubuntu and win 7) without the data on it? Do I just delete the partitions and the OS's will be completely gone? I got the installation disk for window's 7 so yeah...I just want my data on there w/o the OS and have the OS's on my 80gb SSD.
@TearsOfWar1 if you wanna "transfer" your OS to a different partition/HDD (or SSD in this case) use Norton Ghost..if you dont know how to use it, check out a tutorial on youtube or google..if you wanna skip all this, you can do a quick format while installing a new OS, this will keep your files in a folder on the disc named "windows.old" and you can also install a new OS on top of the one you want to remove. hope this helped you out, ask if you didnt understand something :)
@roflhax Does norton ghost work for ubuntu and windows 7? My uncle gave me a copy of norton ghost but it wasn't compatible with windows 7. I don't have anything on ubuntu really so it doesn't matter if I delete it but when I delete the partition for it, it won't let me go into windows 7 at all.
@TearsOfWar1 if it works with windows 7 or not, depends on what version of ghost you're using...download a trial version of the newest update on their website and try that instead. are you sure you deleted the right partition?
@roflhax Yeah I am positive. I heard something called CloneZilla and they claim to be a lot better than norton ghost and others. Should I give that a try as well?
he doesnt have the filters on thats what i mean i got a 902 and 2 r4 fans but with the filters on less air gets pulled in so i want to know if i need them or not
I have same fans and case with dust filters and yes you still get dust in them and after 4 months you have to clean it out because you can see dust collection on the dust filters.
@ BKsMassive yes the 5970 will fit in the 902 it goes into the HDD cage but its a good thing its close to a fan so air gets pushed into the back vents and cools it amazingly better temps then the HAF 932 with a 5970
hey man, i've got £200 going spare. Should i get 2 XFX 4890's (Very cheap where i live, brand new) Or a single 5870 (Yet again, very cheap where i live)?
what is that under you power supply?? I got this case second hand, so its missing some of the things that came with it...

can a crossfire bridge over the crossfire (left connections), but not over the XFire (right connections) connectors cause a blue screen?
Since I just placed one over the crossfire while using xfire but not using the right connectors. I've only got 1 screen.
I've been told that the left are for crossfire and the right for xfire.

Beast of a machine damn!
dragonrow3 1 year ago
@965165150 actually its solid state drive
its a flash disc which yes is much faster then a harddrive
and yes its recommended to put your operating system on the SSD, it will improve performance alot

TearsOfWar1 1 year ago
@TearsOfWar1 if you wanna "transfer" your OS to a different partition/HDD (or SSD in this case) use Norton Ghost..if you dont know how to use it, check out a tutorial on youtube or google..if you wanna skip all this, you can do a quick format while installing a new OS, this will keep your files in a folder on the disc named "windows.old" and you can also install a new OS on top of the one you want to remove. hope this helped you out, ask if you didnt understand something :)
roflhax 1 year ago
@roflhax Does norton ghost work for ubuntu and windows 7? My uncle gave me a copy of norton ghost but it wasn't compatible with windows 7. I don't have anything on ubuntu really so it doesn't matter if I delete it but when I delete the partition for it, it won't let me go into windows 7 at all.
TearsOfWar1 1 year ago
@TearsOfWar1 if it works with windows 7 or not, depends on what version of ghost you're using...download a trial version of the newest update on their website and try that instead. are you sure you deleted the right partition?
roflhax 1 year ago
@roflhax Yeah I am positive. I heard something called CloneZilla and they claim to be a lot better than norton ghost and others. Should I give that a try as well?
TearsOfWar1 1 year ago
@TearsOfWar1 i'd say watch a few tutorials and/or videos of the program and see if its worth a shot

thespartenkid 1 year ago
nascasho do you get much dust with no filters on those r4's? or inside the case
thespartenkid 1 year ago
I have same fans and case with dust filters and yes you still get dust in them and after 4 months you have to clean it out because you can see dust collection on the dust filters.

hugonainsquis 1 year ago
@ nascasho are those r4 fans better then stock?
thespartenkid 1 year ago
Not enough to go out and buy 5-6 to replace them. They are quieter though.
nascasho 1 year ago
@ BKsMassive yes the 5970 will fit in the 902 it goes into the HDD cage but its a good thing its close to a fan so air gets pushed into the back vents and cools it amazingly better temps then the HAF 932 with a 5970
thespartenkid 1 year ago
way nice and clean!!!

cables nice and tidy. great job.

DiDolRuChagi 1 year ago
@
paultje162 no it just goes into the HDD cage witch is good. the fan will blow air into the vents
big temp drop in my opinion i will put a 5970 into my antec 902

Looks brilliant! I have the same case, and I love how you mounted your PSU. What did you use to prop it up with?

sigurd731 1 year ago
Nice cable management.
I run a very similar system, but I can't run the power like that because the damn cables are too short. Whats the model of the PSU btw?
I got the same box and CPU heatsink. Run's amazing.
Kudos on the awesome system.
