Thirupachi was crap, but it was a hit (i dnt know how!). Post-Sivakasi, the quality of Perarasu's films went downhill. Which means, his only decent film is Sivakasi (in which Prakash Raj stole the show with his performance). Therefore P is crap. come on, 1 out of 6 films - that aint good.
Never said he was. I really hated Thirupachi to be honest. I wouldn't say Sivakasi was decent. I think it very good for the time. Back then masala films used to be the right thing. Sivakasi was just a very memorable movie for me cause I enjoyed the comedy and your right about Prakash Raj. The climax was a bit unexpected too. The second half also had a bit of room for Vijay to show off his acting. But in Bala's case, I only liked Pithamagan and maybe Naan Kadaval. 2 of 5 in his case.
yh, thirupachi was terrible. i ddnt get the painting the face yellow and all that trash. For me, i liked Sethu, Nandha (remember Lodukku Pandi played by Karunas) and Pithamagan. Wouldnt mind watching any of these 3 films again. But Naan Kadavul i thought was a bit too depressing. Although the concept was good, its not a film that i would watch again. so for me, thats 3 out of 4.
I think the whole painting the face thing was to not expose his identity but Perarasu tries very hard to bring in aspects of God into his films just like Hari. They always try and flash a few holy figures in songs or in action scenes to symbolise Godly powers which I feel is very tacky by todays standards. Bala on the whole just does depressing films so I never bothered going to the cinema and watch them at full price. Unless he comes up with something unexpected, not gonna watch.
We might feel its tacky, but it seems to work in TN. As for Bala, since Naan Kadavul made him realise that 'over' depression doesn't work with the audience, has changed his track completely, by doing a 'comedy' with Vishal and Arya called 'Avan Ivan'. Although i like Arya, i seriously dont like Vishal. But since Bala can handle comedy well (like in Pithamagan and Nandha), i guess his next film will be good and wont be depressing.
Comedy film? Bala? I'm definitely taking a pass on the next movie. Bala fails at comedy. Pithamagan comedy back then was acceptable, now people have moved on. I really await for some good comedy like back in the days of movies like Minalle and Friends. I think Kaval Kadhal might offer that. The closest to good comedy I have gotten recently has to be from Aadhavan. Bala would probably make it a depressing story based on poor people and cons but just throw some humour in.
aah Friends. Nostalgia. Great movie. It was a multi-starrer WITH amazing comedy. It's a shame we dont get that in Tamil nowadays. mmh, i thought Pithamagan comedy was good.
Yh, since Aadhavan, not a single film with a lot of comedy has released. Maybe Kaaval Kadhal might have good Vijay-Vadivelu comedy.

I dunno - Bala really goes for serious matters thats affecting people nower days and I dont think I'd really watch the film unless reviews state so otherwise but reviews made a big thing about Naan Kadavul but after I watched it, I was just confused about how random it was.
I too read reviews before i decide to go to the cinemas (its soo expensive here), i didnt watch Naan Kadavul at the cinemas, despite it having good reviews. i just had a gut feeling that this wouldnt be something i would like (the stills and trailer ddnt help much either).

Kakha kakha first half mokka, only after Jeevan's entrance movie was looking like action film, else kundu pusnika jo vanthu romancekira perla savadippa. Jeevan's voice was given by Gautham in that movie. Harris songs was good, Who knows he might have copied from unknown old france or german or any unknown albums. An actor (please go and chck the dictionary definition of an actor before you make your next comment) needs to do a variety of roles. Worldwide, thats what actors do. Sivakasi wasn't a RECENT film. You say Perarsu is crap when you've merely seen his films which came out when mass movies were popular. Bala is crap to be honest. All his films are just too depressing to watch. People say a movie is immediately good when its based on poor people who have difficulties in their life or if it has the character do more serious role than comedic ones since apparently that sort is not realistic. im not sticking up to anyone tbh. Surya's Aadhavan was crap, but like Sivakasi, it was tolerable due to comedy and good music. Pokkiri was enjoyed by everyone becuase it had good screenplay, decent acting, good comedy, and technically it was great, and it was a perfect masala package. Having watched something like Pokkiri, and then watching something like Sura, ATM, Villu - the difference is obvious.

what i meant was that Perarasu was okay at the beginning (personally. But, it seems the sucess of Thirupachi and Sivakasi went to his head, and he is just giving crap films nowadays.
Well, as for Singam, its not an amazing film, it just had a good screenplay, its a Super Hit for a reason. People liked the film. Vettaikaran may have had similar story, but screenplay was bad. I honestly cant pass a judgement on Maanja Velu cuz i havent seen it.

I do remember you quite explicitly saying that Perarasu was crap. I didn't like Thirupachi TBH, P was lucky that time I think. I dont understand how Singam's screenplay is good. Sure - it was well paced and covered a lot of content very quickly in the 3 hours it had. Same with Vettaikkaran though. Vijay played it very safe and only in the second half did he lean towards the mass style but even then it was very talkative and less stunty. Singam was just shouts and fights.

Thirupachi was crap, but it was a hit (i dnt know how!). Post-Sivakasi, the quality of Perarasu's films went downhill. Which means, his only decent film is Sivakasi (in which Prakash Raj stole the show with his performance). Therefore P is crap. come on, 1 out of 6 films - that aint good.

Never said he was. I really hated Thirupachi to be honest. I wouldn't say Sivakasi was decent. I think it very good for the time. Back then masala films used to be the right thing. Sivakasi was just a very memorable movie for me cause I enjoyed the comedy and your right about Prakash Raj. The climax was a bit unexpected too. The second half also had a bit of room for Vijay to show off his acting. But in Bala's case, I only liked Pithamagan and maybe Naan Kadaval. 2 of 5 in his case.

yh, thirupachi was terrible. i ddnt get the painting the face yellow and all that trash. For me, i liked Sethu, Nandha (remember Lodukku Pandi played by Karunas) and Pithamagan. Wouldnt mind watching any of these 3 films again. But Naan Kadavul i thought was a bit too depressing. Although the concept was good, its not a film that i would watch again. so for me, thats 3 out of 4.

I think the whole painting the face thing was to not expose his identity but Perarasu tries very hard to bring in aspects of God into his films just like Hari. They always try and flash a few holy figures in songs or in action scenes to symbolise Godly powers which I feel is very tacky by todays standards. Bala on the whole just does depressing films so I never bothered going to the cinema and watch them at full price. Unless he comes up with something unexpected, not gonna watch.

As for Bala, since Naan Kadavul made him realise that 'over' depression doesn't work with the audience, has changed his track completely, by doing a 'comedy' with Vishal and Arya called 'Avan Ivan'. Although i like Arya, i seriously dont like Vishal. But since Bala can handle comedy well (like in Pithamagan and Nandha), i guess his next film will be good and wont be depressing.

Comedy film? Bala? I'm definitely taking a pass on the next movie. Bala fails at comedy. Pithamagan comedy back then was acceptable, now people have moved on. I really await for some good comedy like back in the days of movies like Minalle and Friends. I think Kaval Kadhal might offer that. The closest to good comedy I have gotten recently has to be from Aadhavan. Bala would probably make it a depressing story based on poor people and cons but just throw some humour in.
