Let's see. In Van Halen we have a bunch of (nominal) guys who dress in spandex, wear eye makeup, and primp their hair up like a bunch of Jersey girls. And some of the yahoos here are ripping on The Clash for being a bunch of "girls"? Lol. Morons. The brand of pop rock that van Halen helped popularize was the most execrable girl rock ever created. F them. Anyone who prefers them to bands like The Clash, X, or the Dead Kennedys completely lack the spirit of rock n roll.
the clash were and still are THE ONLY BAND THAT MATTERS. Joe Strummer had more integrity than anyone ever, Van Halen is a great band but The Clash are up there with The Beatles, The Stones The Who. All the greats.
You know, the 83 Us Festival was a turning point in rock. Most of the bands that appeared on New Wave Saturday had pretty much broken up within a year of appearing at the festival while the vast majority of the bands that appeared on Heavy Metal Sunday are pretty much still going strong. In fact, a lot of people said that days one and three would outdraw day two, but when Metal Sunday drew over 400,000 that's when you could see that New Wave's days were numbered.
The Clash wasn't so bad... For a chick band, that is. Comparing them to the Majesty that is the Mighty Van Halen is grounds for being kicked in your vagina.
The Clash was a shit punk band with no talent. The sound just sucks ass. It's a fuckin joke. Just listen to US festival 83. Can't compare to VH and diamond Dave.

Just because you love jerking off to Eddie's wanker guitar solos and don't understand the pure power and emotion of real punk rock doesnt mean that The Clash sucks. A real musician can make great music without having to resort to overblown, self-indulging solos, much like The Clash did on their masterpiece London Calling. Long live the only band that matters.
Bud...don't even reply to those who mention 'front men' when talking about music. These goofs are fans of actresses and not music. Long live London Calling and Unchained....Peace.

david lee roth is a joke people only remember him for being the former lead singer of some band. im pretty sure we will see him on some reality show pretty soon
Exactly! Dave knew what he was doing. Like he said "Rock n Roll was like Wrestling." He and Henry Rollins have become good friends. Dave interviewed Henry on his short-lived radio show. Dave is a world traveller who gets a kick out of hearing stories from others of the same creed. Rollins is a baddass, too.
um...actually I think Terry Chimes left the Clash after the Combat Rock tour and was replaced by Pete Howard, who performed with the Clash at the US Festival in San Bernadino. If DLR and Terry Chimes ever got in the ring it wasn't near the time of this clip (and I'm sure Roth would have punched his lights out). Actually, I don't think it ever happened.
Here's the thing about punk rock. I like the "fuck the system, fuck the authorities, fuck your mom and dad" kind of attitude. But, punk rockers can't play for shit. If a member of the Clash could play like Eddie Van Halen instead of bashing out of tune barre chords all night, you might have had something with that movement. Instead it died, as any music played by people who can't play should.
LOL! Study Dave's martial arts background before claiming that the Clash's drummer knocked him out. He may have been drunk at a lot of shows in the '80s, but calling the man an idiot shows your own ignorance more than anything.
Dave was spit on by some Clash-punks (fake punks), so he had it out for the Clash. In fact he was friends with X, and met Henry Rollins and the Minutemen in LA in the early 80s. Read the Van Halen book, Everybody Wants Some, it's got the stories.

@BoxcarFred Fuck Van Halen and Fuck Roth. The Clash don't need to tap for 3 minutes to get their message across.
