Just thinking on getting 1999 Boxster S. That'd be the same model as yours, i guess. Tell me, how's the isolation in the car with the roof up? No unwanted air influx or noises?
I bought mine for €12,000 a year ago for my 25th. Cheap enough but insurance a year is €1,200 and road tax a year is €930. New set of tyres €700. Drink fuel as well Basically they add up in cost, worth it though!
@nielsboex Well besides the costs i listed below, a service will cost around €400 (basic). As alot of parts were giving problems as they were vw made. Leave a continguency fund in case something goes wrong of about €500 a year. For instance, I now have to get my starter motor repaired, the ball joint replaced on the front passenger side and the rear plasctic window replaced. Petrol is €40 per week but i dont do much driving.
Where I am from, caymans and boxters are actually common. Rarely do I see a 911 tho. I certified used 1997 Boxster will set you back $8,997. So its not so farfetch'd to own one on a meager salary. My friend is a pharmacy technician and he owns a 2000 audi tt. He said he got it for only 8k.
Just 1 year of saving and the a boxter will be mine!, oh I'm 20 btw. A 99 boxter will only set you back 7k in the uk so it's all good.
My 1st car was a Toyota Celica convertable which was stolen. I'm in a Ford KA at the moment. You don't know how soul crushing it is to try and got fast in a 1.3 ltr car. It can't be done.
Go from a Celica to a KA is so funny, change down to 2nd in a Celica at about 20 mph, not much happens. Do it in a KA and you are jolted forward violently.
This is the only porsche that is not that old and i could afford. i saw many at a price of 16-22k euro (22 900 - 31 500 Dollar) 2nd hand But: if something is wrong with it and you need to repair it: it gonna cost alot, even the simply service worths a small fortune. but a great car overall for the "small" pocket if you are into sportcars/porsche
i was just converting the prices we have here 1 year ago in my comment (wow i actually remember writing that even tho its long time ago). why you get em cheaper has various reasons but 2 of em are:
- condition of the car and the prices i wrote are for cars that are driveable
- the difference in taxes (im talking about europe in my example)
but since i am selling now new Lexus cars and not 2nd hand exlusives: i dont care baout the prices for porsche anymore.
This is funny.. kids talking about something that they can only dream of. You are comparing a daily cruiser like boxter with hard core track car 911 turbos and GT's. But at the end its only just jelousy 97% of people that commented here cant even afford a boxter. Clearly all the stupid comment come from people taht never sat i porsche. Stick to honda civic videos and stop hating.
The rear end of a Porsche is the best part! especially a wide body's car. The 996 911 Porsche's are not as good looking as the 993 before them, and in fact Porsche fixed the look of the car with the 997. I owned a boxster they are nice cars handle well, but I would take a 911 any day over it. I also would rather have the Cayman over the boxster, even though there built on the same platform. I prefer the coupe, and the looks more.
everyone hating on the boxster here is an idiot; people overlook the fact that the 986 model was one of the best-handling, and definately best-looking cars of its time, and still is today. It will eventually become a classic, as well.
evilskin, I'm sure because you can't afford a porsche, you have no idea about what they really are and what they can do. But if you've ever seen (or heard) one, you'd know that the boxster is one of the most beautiful and powerful cars on the road today (especially the 986 model).
its 2 times the price ass hole and boxsters have shit performance and is a digrace to the porsche name if I had 45k id save it and go buy a used 911 and go smoke the boxster all day o nthe track
Not argueing as I love 996 Turbos and will have one in a year or so, currently have a 986 Boxster S and love it to bits.
Now listen to this, my mate (Mr Loaded) has a 997 GT3 RS but before that he had the Boxster S like mine. He said that the Boxster is WAY more fun as the power and handing are matched plus it is mid-engined unlike the 911s where the engine is over hanging the rear, ok, great handling but the slightest skip out goes into pendlum effect - 90% guarranteed a crash!
It seems you learn about cars from street corners and pub talk rather than the truth. I am a technical consultant in the motorsport industry and I have worked with cars for 25 years.
Did you know in 1995 Porsche was on the brink and struggling to make ends meet? In late 96 the Boxster was launched and became Porsches biggest selling product and made Porsche what it is today.
I own one through choice and not because it is all I can afford.
love it!! Very impressive Car!

How much would you estimate the overall costs per year ? I'm interested in buying one too in the near future.
