I like the lore. I realize that GW has to raise prices because of inflation (but I'm not 100% sure if its fair or not). I like the idea of all the units, but the Tomb Kings do seem a bit under-powered.
tomb kings = weird fringe army on the edges of warhammer universe, not one of the premiere armies by any means. not as exciting or powerful as any other army, even beastmen shit all over them.
@sarfanco so....its gone up by 6 in the past 10 years...? Thats not that bad. Infact, a box of 10 empire troops used to cost $20.00, its now $25....thats about a $5 increase in 6 years. Thats about the story for ALL products on the market. Gamers are just now starting to realise that wages earned have NOT matched the cost of living. Its not GWs fault that the company you (and I) work for have realised this.
@johnkerry7 Not another gameswork shop kiss arse. GW uses cheap plastic & resins and over all cheep labour which if you don't know allready is all made in china. Carfully planned marketing has allowed them away with such inflated prices. take a look at the back of the box and it will say made in the UK or USA but thats just the box. not the pieces inside. Your Codex/rulebook is made in china. and what they charge £35 for it. I simply don't buy it anymore, due to injustice
@sarfanco so stay away from their videos and dont be a troll. Why go to a video for something you dont like. Stop trying to makeother people who still can play GW games feel bad because you cannot afford it.
Surely the Necrons deserve a discussion, even though they seek to claim what is no longer rightfully theirs?
no matter...with the vampires raising from their tombs back in the days of the old world i fear more for the integrity of our galaxy now...February...a troubling time indeed...Not for the likes of us gods NO! we fear nothing...but for you mortals...when the soulless march for the second and the great devourer fast approaches...well we shall see...
Also the unreasonably high prices of the figures don't really have a logical explanation. If they wanted more money then they wouldn't make something as small as a a roughly eight centimeters tall liche priest cost 18 dollars. A lego set with several times the amount of plastic thats slightly lower quality costs less. I can understand that it's very detailed but a single plastic model shouldn't cost that much. A reasonable price would be 3-6 dollars, as it it only take like one dollar to make.
Its a great game with good fluff... Sadly army imbalance, codex creep and most of all price hikes have killed it for me and many like me !!! Now a days with the same amount of money that I need for a Rhino I can buy a good army for most of the other games out there !
Yeah I agree with all of you!!! I went into games workshop here in NZ I looked at the tomb guards price my jaw dropped. The manger was like oohh have you ever heard of inflation? I was like yes but that still doesn't justify me paying that for one small box of plastic. And yeah I would be much more happy if they reduced their prices by at least %20. Parents would buy their kids more stuff if the prices were better. And i heard you make shit in China you greedy bastards.
You sell a plastic sprue in a box for 40 dollars. It cost maybe 2 dollars in plastic. If this game was cheaper I would buy a full dark eldar army while I wait for the new necron set. Instead you make no money from me and when the necrons come out I will be buying tiny bits at a time. I make a decent salary and I just cant justify the expense of playing a game of plastic models when Im the one who cuts, assembles and paints them. For the cost of a unit and a half I can buy a videogame with online
@Phuild well you cant judge the models on the price of the material if you did that with everything the my computer should be a couple hundred dollars cheaper. If everyone could afford to buy what ever full army they liked then GW wouldn't be making anything. I'm a collage student I don't make a lot of money so I just take it a box at a time. See if you can set up a escalation league starting at 500 pts and working your way up to how many points you want

Wargaming a is a hobby which is made for people like us to enjoy, now these prices are at a point where I can't even afford it anymore. I can go into a shop saying I want to start a brand new army with a few tools and paint brushes and easily spend £150 in a few minutes. It's ridiculous how much you need to spend in order to have a decent sized army. GW should be getting people to PLAY the game, not scare off customers with insanely high priced plastic.
games workshop, LOWER YOUR PRICES!!! you would actually gain more profit from it instead of spiking the price up 10% all the time!! also fire matt ward, he's writing completely broken army lists and destroying lore!!!
@ItsKotic54 soooooo let me see if i get this straight, you want them to LOWER the P.O.S. price so that more people could buy things? Okay, but what happens when the supply cannot meet the demand? You will have empty shelves, empty stores, and you'll have to wait weeks for your items to become available (Privateer Press anyone?). Its something in the world they we like to call supply and demand. As demand goes up, supply goes down, prices rise.
@johnkerry7 This isn't a matter of limited supply like oil. In fact, the demand of Warhammer figures have been decreasing since 2005 probably because of the development of video games. If they would lower the prices of the models the demand might actually stabilise or rise, and therefore the company would obviously produce more of the models. Also, if the demand goes down, shouldn't the prices lower, not rise?
@ironboy1023 supply and demand is universal for all types of business. The more a toaster sells the less there of them on the shelves, the company either has to increase production of raise prices to meet the demand. Supply and demand is not limited to raw materials. So i say again, you lower the price of a land raider, and i actually think the demand for table top gaming has gone up as it is becoming more main stream, and more people will buy it limiting the supply on the shelves. GW would then
@johnkerry7 have to increase production or raise prices again to limit demand enough to avoid massive production costs. Again, Privateer Press STILL does not have the capability that GW does to fill demand of thier product, thats why PP stuff is usually not readily available at LGS. Couple that with the fact that GW has a global demand, more so then PP and has actual retail stores that must be kept in stock. Its the same principle of a BMW, great cars, expensive because to make enough to meet
@johnkerry7 meet global demand that the masses would ask for if they werent would bankrupt the company just on production alone, forcing them to raise prices to lower demand to cover the cost of production and manpower.
i am so upset because i might have to quit warhammer which is disspointing because i love it so much. I just cant afford it, i am only 11 and i do not get allowence so lets jut say i have a very low income and even thou i love it i wont pay £10 for a tiny bit of plastic its a rip off (no offence) so please lower your prices.
Barely any models on the table and it is worth more than $350... Greeeeeat... They still look awesome, I will give it that. That is all I will give it.
@HollowVampire no it isnt. I think your math meter is off. Also, the types of models and the number of them is not legal. You wouldnt be able to have all those special units in a low points game. So really the cost is much cheaper than you let on. Nice try. but i can play that game too. 5 heavy warjacks from PP is about $175. REALLY?!!?? $175 for barley any models on the table? are you kidding me....? Seeeeeee i can play too.
First off, I know all these units together would not be legal... That still does not defeat the fact that it does cost quite a bit for those exact models all put together.
Second, who said anything about Warmachine, mate? This is not a PP video.
Third, I did say something positive about these models. They look brilliant. What did you say in your comparison? Nothing positive. It just seems like bashing or whining without the positive. :D
Yes it does cost quite a bit for those exact models. However, since unless you are just collecting for collecting s sake, you will not be spending that amount on those few models. And i was comparing to another company simply to point out that whatever wargame you do play you could easily spend lots of money if you buy models in a certain way. Its all relative. And i will say that PP puts out some stunning stuff, i own a bit of their stuff. But i happen to think GW produces better stuff.
@johnkerry7 I believe we can agree that Games Workshop has great models then. Personally, I believe it is not the best, but that is subjective. I would like Games Workshop more if they had a starter army for each army though. Like a 500 - 1000 point army that is ready to play like Warmachine/Hordes. Not just Battleforces or Battalions. Those starter boxes like Assault on Black Reach and Island of Blood does not count, because people might not want Rats, Green Skins, Vanilla Marines, or elves. :P
@HollowVampire i agree, GW could use a revamp of their starter boxes. However, i will say that it doesnt take too long to produce an army at 500-1000pts, its just a matter of how satisfied the individual would be playing those points games. I for example prefer smaller games of about 1000-1500pts, others would say that that is too small. I will say that GW has a rule system that allows itself to scale up better than PP, i prefer army games to skirmish games.
@johnkerry7 I would love to get a Fantasy army started, but I never really finish armies. I start them and paint them up, then kind of stop before completing it. The whole aspect of buying in pieces kind of hesitates me. If they made it where you had to "choose to get this whole playable army now or not" would help me definitely. I want to try to actually get a force up to 2000 points and is playable.
Skirmish is fine and army games is fine. It is the individual's decision. :P
@HollowVampire true. Ive always had a BAD habit of just starting armies, at one point i had 7 unfinished 40k armies and 4 unfinished fantasy armies. Ive since sold most of them off and have basically concentrated on 1 army from fantasy and 1 army from 40k. I do agree that it does require a great deal of patience to build up an army, especially when you want it all in one go. However through much effort and patience i have come close to be satisfied with the size of my 2 armies. I have easily
over 2000pts of black templars and easily over 3000pts of Vampire Counts. I have focused most of my efforts on vampire counts and now with my latest addition of Blood Knights (using HE Dragon prince models) i have the models i "need". It took me about 2 years and some months (with a lot of down time in between lol) to finish, but it was worth it. Compound that with my policy of "if it aint painted i dont play it" it took prob longer than need be. lol. I will say that the one benefit of GW
price increases is that it has allowed me to be more monetarily watchful. I can now budget my armies better and really focus on what i need instead of impulse buying, and allows me to focus on one or two armies at a time lol.
@HollowVampire i had to fight really hard to break my habit of getting the "shinny new models" before just getting what i need, but i now have what i need so i can have fun lol. And yeah i do have experience with Fantasy. Ive been focusing mostly on my Vampire counts and prob could put together a well over 2500pt army. I like it a bit better than 40k as i fell that it doesn't become to unwieldy at higher points games, it just gets bigger. Plus i like the old style of fighting in big blocks.
second wave out today. Just buy off of ebay guys. I have found tomb guard for $30 as opposed to $70 (australian) from the US. Postage is like $9 so if you still want to buy warhammer, you should just look more carefully
So epic, but an army update which I think would be amazing are the vampire counts....Yeah they look cool at the moment though I think that GW could produce some EPIC miniatures for them!...(Make the vampire lords look like awsome things from dracula's Van Helsing!) And the blood knights can be more epic
Agreed, however, most armies are hard to make a viable 750-1000p build off (any less simply don't give a good gaming experience), as the gamerules and codexes are pretty much written with 1500-2000p in mind. I would like GW to consider this with future releases!
@mofos4 I agree with you no more price increases i love warhammer models but they are too exspensive to purchase I have to find other places that sell for cheaper well I'm mainly a 40k necron person but ilike tomb kings they look cool but the prices OO NOOOO
@kingian770 I agree too, but the new finecast models look like they are worth the money, i mean, yeah, you get one model for £9.50, but the detail is crystal clear, it's brilliant. So, I'm not quitting the hobby. I'm a Necron player too, by the way. :D
Please... Don't increase the prices of anymore sets... I cant take it... I mean, 19 Orc Boyz for £18.50, reduced to 10 Orc Boyz for £18? Don't do the same for any other army or kits!
Erm....new tomb king battalion....£70! are you having a laugh games workshop? The previous battalion was £51.50 or so. Can you answer me one question??
What warrants you the right to charge that price of £70 just because you have been kind enough to add an extra 8 warriors to the kit?
oh come one guys, need some more padding on the walls, echoing too much. But meh, minor thing. The stuff looks great and will possibly interesting to play against.
I love this videos, if I had it my way, they would do them week or so talking about what they're doing in the studio, what they think, and (this is where it becomes impossible!) asking for the opinion of their customers.
okay... gw has failed in this video why? THEY GO THE MOST BORING PEOPLE IN THE HOLE WORLD! TO TALK ABOUT THIS!
And they are both dudes? what gw being all sexist ? infact i see nothing that gw does to support the female gamer :P thanks for creating a sausage fest.
@SuperRGaming Dude...the only female employees at GW are sculptors ans painters..., so how the hell would they talk about the army from a rule conceptor point?...
And its not been sexiest, its been realistic, there is no female rule conceptor up till now...
Looks great! I just hope the army won't be overpowered compared to other armies. For instance skeletons at 4 points each while vampire counts buy them for 8? Not that I mind them being cheap, but I think VC will need a revamp this way.
@daemonishere Tomb Kings skeletons may be cheap at 4 points, but Tomb Kings will not be able to heal units as much compared to Vampire Counts. Also, Tomb Kings will not be able to create new units like the Vampire Counts can with Zombies.
@LordEsel88 True, but keep in mind that 1) a newly raised unit of zombies is now completely worthless thanks to the attacks in extra ranks. It will be wiped in 1 turn and overrun since you won't be able to get it big enough to be a decent blocker due to the new magic system (not that that's a bad thing). And 2) raising extra models has become somehow more unreliable thanks to the new magic system (I've had a few 2's roled for power&dispell dice allready).
@daemonishere this is true, i once took straight up two units of 30 zombies each in 5 ranks, got wipped out in two turns, only reason it lasted two turns was because of ION. But i still love the LOOK of the zombies :P
i'm not a big fan of Egyptian imagery...but damn, i must admit, these new models are absolutely beautiful (which is a very nice trend among all the new fantasy stuff GW has done recently :)
Also, did anyone notice the other three figure that they didn't mention? Look at the video again... Their definitely new, but I can't guess what they are.....
A lot of this sounds good, I love the policy of now letting anything in the kit go to waste, it's a great feeling being able to use most of the kit for various things to make your army that much cooler.
Here's hoping they aren't screwed up like the Tyranids...
I am glad he is not writing 40k Codices at the moment. Robin Cruddace the IG fan boy that gave them everything in the world on the cheap. The same Robin Cruddace that wrote the Nid book and over priced almost every unit and made it so none of them have an invulnerable save or eternal warrior. My hope is he wont screw up this one but oh well I don't play fantasy.
i dont know, it seems the army is becoming more generic with just another large unit to buy rather then a shambling horde of magic. but then again maybe they are trying to separate them more from vampire counts
Great work GW. Love to see the devs on here. Keep this direction going! YouTube is a great marketing area to let us WD readers have access to people we previously only saw as pictures and words on a page.
@skarnir My guess is that they do these videos for newly released armies that are less known or less played to give them some extra spotlight. They did videos like this for Dark Eldar and they have been a 'fringe' army for very long, just like Tomb Kings.
There are a lot of simularitie between the Tomb Kings and the Necrons. Not like before the new Tomb Kings book. Exemple: the scaribes and the wraiths. There nice and inproved!
@spener89 I think the Ward-Rage meme has gotten past a joke now. These videos, where the designers talk through the process, are great, and seem to put a lid on the usual codex/army book griping.
They´re more like "Get off my lawn, you darn kids" undead, with some of them even having human populations, and generally being pretty chill as long as you dont steal their stuff
Tomb Kings are a Neutral army in new rules (along with Ogre Kingdoms) so there not pure evil as Vampire Counts are, they just pissed off for being ressed by Nagash (when he ressed them, most maintained there minds due to embalming rituals) & will take there anger out on everything and anything that gets in there way
@dragonman14x Cheers for the enlightenment, both of you. I hadn't really been looking into WHFB before, but now I'm intrigued. The amount of background stuff in itself is enough for me.
@generalians It looks like the rumored Ushabti with giant bows...also, look at the two special character looking pieces each flanking the Necrosphinx and Warsphinx.
@porcu12345 The Ushabtis' bows have the same rule as Long Bows but have Strength 6.
There was a guy that thought of the idea to put them behind Skeleton Bowmen to support them. This is possible because the Ushabti are much taller than skeletons so they will be able to shoot over them, and the Ushabti will get Hard Cover from standing behind them. Ushabti with Great Bows, as they are called, could also be effective at guarding the flanks.
New figs look great. Off topic: Hair inspired by the old Dark Eldar line? Or is it more the Chaos Space marine look?
Also a suggestion: invest in a good mic, or some mixing before putting up. I really love these chats with developers and would like to see more of this sort of thing.
I like the lore. I realize that GW has to raise prices because of inflation (but I'm not 100% sure if its fair or not). I like the idea of all the units, but the Tomb Kings do seem a bit under-powered.

Skirmish is fine and army games is fine. It is the individual's decision. :P
HollowVampire 8 months ago
@HollowVampire true. Ive always had a BAD habit of just starting armies, at one point i had 7 unfinished 40k armies and 4 unfinished fantasy armies. Ive since sold most of them off and have basically concentrated on 1 army from fantasy and 1 army from 40k. I do agree that it does require a great deal of patience to build up an army, especially when you want it all in one go. However through much effort and patience i have come close to be satisfied with the size of my 2 armies. I have easily
johnkerry7 8 months ago
over 2000pts of black templars and easily over 3000pts of Vampire Counts. I have focused most of my efforts on vampire counts and now with my latest addition of Blood Knights (using HE Dragon prince models) i have the models i "need". It took me about 2 years and some months (with a lot of down time in between lol) to finish, but it was worth it. Compound that with my policy of "if it aint painted i dont play it" it took prob longer than need be. lol. I will say that the one benefit of GW
johnkerry7 8 months ago
price increases is that it has allowed me to be more monetarily watchful. I can now budget my armies better and really focus on what i need instead of impulse buying, and allows me to focus on one or two armies at a time lol.
johnkerry7 8 months ago
@johnkerry7 I always get what I need first, but I do have some "Oo, that looks cool" moments. You know what I mean?
Do you have any experience with Fantasy?
HollowVampire 8 months ago
@HollowVampire i had to fight really hard to break my habit of getting the "shinny new models" before just getting what i need, but i now have what i need so i can have fun lol. And yeah i do have experience with Fantasy. Ive been focusing mostly on my Vampire counts and prob could put together a well over 2500pt army. I like it a bit better than 40k as i fell that it doesn't become to unwieldy at higher points games, it just gets bigger. Plus i like the old style of fighting in big blocks.

This is great book, not overpowered, subtle yet sneaky. Hats off the author and the team in England on this one!

second wave out today. Just buy off of ebay guys. I have found tomb guard for $30 as opposed to $70 (australian) from the US. Postage is like $9 so if you still want to buy warhammer, you should just look more carefully
Kommando786 9 months ago
So epic, but an army update which I think would be amazing are the vampire counts....Yeah they look cool at the moment though I think that GW could produce some EPIC miniatures for them!...(Make the vampire lords look like awsome things from dracula's Van Helsing!) And the blood knights can be more epic

people who complain about the price of GW, how about starting off with
a) smaller points games
b) don't play tournaments that require big armies
c) don't buy a 2000pt army in one go.
johnkerry7 9 months ago
@johnkerry7 It doesn't matter what kind of big army u play with the prices are BIG anyway!
voltrumiks 9 months ago
@johnkerry7
Agreed, however, most armies are hard to make a viable 750-1000p build off (any less simply don't give a good gaming experience), as the gamerules and codexes are pretty much written with 1500-2000p in mind. I would like GW to consider this with future releases!
hellspawnds 9 months ago
@mofos4 I agree with you no more price increases i love warhammer models but they are too exspensive to purchase I have to find other places that sell for cheaper well I'm mainly a 40k necron person but ilike tomb kings they look cool but the prices OO NOOOO
kingian770 9 months ago
@kingian770 I agree too, but the new finecast models look like they are worth the money, i mean, yeah, you get one model for £9.50, but the detail is crystal clear, it's brilliant. So, I'm not quitting the hobby. I'm a Necron player too, by the way. :D
mofos4 9 months ago
Please... Don't increase the prices of anymore sets... I cant take it... I mean, 19 Orc Boyz for £18.50, reduced to 10 Orc Boyz for £18? Don't do the same for any other army or kits!

ushabti with bows? prince Apophas in the army book? i smell a second wave! any thoughts?
BobThePokeMaster 9 months ago
Erm....new tomb king battalion....£70! are you having a laugh games workshop? The previous battalion was £51.50 or so. Can you answer me one question??
What warrants you the right to charge that price of £70 just because you have been kind enough to add an extra 8 warriors to the kit?

@TheImperialGuardGuy in America it keeps me from spending $55 extra buying them individually in box sets.

@SuperRGaming Dude...the only female employees at GW are sculptors ans painters..., so how the hell would they talk about the army from a rule conceptor point?...
And its not been sexiest, its been realistic, there is no female rule conceptor up till now...

Think you hit mark there mate, personally though id love if an attractive young women was explaining the rules in this video
dragonman14x 10 months ago
@dragonman14x I think that kind of thinking is demeaning to both men and women, and I hate that.
rokstoned 10 months ago
Looks great! I just hope the army won't be overpowered compared to other armies. For instance skeletons at 4 points each while vampire counts buy them for 8? Not that I mind them being cheap, but I think VC will need a revamp this way.
daemonishere 10 months ago
@daemonishere Tomb Kings skeletons may be cheap at 4 points, but Tomb Kings will not be able to heal units as much compared to Vampire Counts. Also, Tomb Kings will not be able to create new units like the Vampire Counts can with Zombies.
LordEsel88 10 months ago
@LordEsel88 True, but keep in mind that 1) a newly raised unit of zombies is now completely worthless thanks to the attacks in extra ranks. It will be wiped in 1 turn and overrun since you won't be able to get it big enough to be a decent blocker due to the new magic system (not that that's a bad thing). And 2) raising extra models has become somehow more unreliable thanks to the new magic system (I've had a few 2's roled for power&dispell dice allready).
daemonishere 10 months ago
@daemonishere this is true, i once took straight up two units of 30 zombies each in 5 ranks, got wipped out in two turns, only reason it lasted two turns was because of ION. But i still love the LOOK of the zombies :P

A lot of this sounds good, I love the policy of now letting anything in the kit go to waste, it's a great feeling being able to use most of the kit for various things to make your army that much cooler.
Here's hoping they aren't screwed up like the Tyranids...
and don't just make them fantasy Necrons.

My hope is he wont screw up this one but oh well I don't play fantasy.

this may not be possible but it would help promote each new army and not just a select few.
skarnir 10 months ago
@skarnir My guess is that they do these videos for newly released armies that are less known or less played to give them some extra spotlight. They did videos like this for Dark Eldar and they have been a 'fringe' army for very long, just like Tomb Kings.

@LordEsel88 never thought of it like that.

Tomb Kings are a Neutral army in new rules (along with Ogre Kingdoms) so there not pure evil as Vampire Counts are, they just pissed off for being ressed by Nagash (when he ressed them, most maintained there minds due to embalming rituals) & will take there anger out on everything and anything that gets in there way

porcu12345 10 months ago
@porcu12345 The Ushabtis' bows have the same rule as Long Bows but have Strength 6.
There was a guy that thought of the idea to put them behind Skeleton Bowmen to support them. This is possible because the Ushabti are much taller than skeletons so they will be able to shoot over them, and the Ushabti will get Hard Cover from standing behind them. Ushabti with Great Bows, as they are called, could also be effective at guarding the flanks.
Armoured foes will fear them. >:)
