  • This serial has the reputation among serial fans as being the worst and most offensive serial ever made. When a NYC TV station tried to run it, parents protested that the large natives gave their children nightmares and it was quickly removed. It has been in public domain for many years.

  • As fun as the pulps can be sometimes, this is one reason why I am glad the 30s & 40s is over. Because people are more tolerant now

  • "They were all BLACK once, but your magic made them WHITE."

the same sorta stupidity is rampant in the Philippines. But from a certain point of view, it's alot more retarded.

I can elaborate if anyone asks.

All the same, this stuff's disturbing alright. Thanks for posting.

  • I heard about an American soldier of Japanese descent, in the Army while his parents were in US internment camps. He said he was confused by signs on buses in the south, dividing the seats into a "White" versus "Colored" section. He assumed because of discrimination he had received that they'd consider him "colored", but they always told him not to sit back with the blacks, so that made him "White."

    It's all silly and arbitrary.

  • In one of them the horse went off a very high cliff into water below, looked like it could have injured or killed it.

  • I have a couple of old, old cliffhangers with John Wayne in them, and I can't remember which one, but in one of them, he's hiding behind a curtain and listening to some bad guys talk when he accidentally DROPS his gun and it goes off. I'll post that if I can find it. It's so silly to think The Duke would make such a klutzy move, but I'm sure it was him. I just can't remember if it was in "Hurricane Express" or "Shadow of the Eagle" or "The Three Musketeers."

  • It has been fun watching the old ones, I had only seen Rooster Cogburn, True Grit etc. I love horses so love the sound of the hooves and all the fast riding! (just not when they fall) This is a 4 disc set got at Walmart. Some titles: 'Neath Arizona Skies, Rainbow Valley, The Dawn Rider, Desert Trail.Around 20episodes.He always has his big rolled up cuffs on his jeans and a silk scarf around his neck.I look forward to your post of that scene! Have a good day :o)

  • Even animal treatment is hard to watch in some old movies.I recently bought a boxed set of old John Wayne movies(had never really watched many)and its appalling all the falls they made the horses take filming those.

  • Thanks for sharing this,I have never seen it.I am quite a fan of old movies. It is amazing how it can make you bristle at what you find in the old movies such as this.

  • Amazing film..

Reading contemporary comments made by the YouTube "Whaaat Powaa" crew, you'd think not a lot has changed..

As a kid I recall hearing men thank each other by saying "You're a white man", that being the highest form of flattery.. Parts of Australia were ( are ? ) much like Alabama 1950..

Re: old movies -ABC-TV here runs great very old movies after midnight -I saw "New faces Of 1937" starring Milton Berle, a few weeks ago -and even 1920s silent movies like "The Lodger"..

  • I've vaguely heard the expression "that's mighty white of you", but people seem to use it sarcastically these days.

Wow, we never get old movies on regular network tv these days. Cable channels like "Turner Classic Movies" seem to have gobbled up all the good oldies. The only thing they show in black and white anymore is Miracle on 34th Street or It's a Wonderful Life. I guess it's like antiques -- they've become so old, suddenly they're worth something again. Too pricey for network tv.
