Hi, I was in the background of the making of one of the episodes. It was the one they were ship wrecked and had to fix the ship.I was at a camp on an island in maine and the whole cast stayed with us for day or so. We got to go on board the mimi and watch footage of the whales they saw. Well I was one of the kids who cut the tree down and debarked it to help fix the ship Plus the captain came by one night and sang sea shantys for us.
Thanks for the upload. All I've had to listen to is a crappy realaudio file till now. I grew up just south of Boston in Providence and watched this a lot 25 years ago on the local Boston PBS ch 2 and 44 as well as ch. 36 in Providence. It's good to hear that it's still used in schools even though it hasn't been on public television around here since 1996 when The Second Voyage of the Mimi was last rerun. I still remember a big report I did for school on humpback whales thanks to this show.
its funny I believe the reason why the song is remembered well by everyone is that you hear it so often...the episode are only 15 min long and before every one you hear the song...and at the end of every episode you hear it....i've only watched the first 5 episodes and the song is in my head already!!!
Im in sixth grade and we're watching this so we're learning a lot about whales and stuff right now. sometimes I look forward to watching it each week because it is pretty long with the episode and expedition. XD
I watched this in 6th Grade in Science class, Mr Borst was the teacher. I can still whistle the song really well, and I do from time to time when I walk down the street, and especially when I'm at the marina.

I watched it in grade 5 too! It must have been part of the curriculum in Ontario around '91 or '92?

Remember Rachel Fairbanks, the cute, high school girl with long, brown hair. She was hot, but she had a real bad temper.
