  • thank you!

  • Try drawing a curve an an old credit / bank card. cut to the curve and you have a rib.

  • where can i get a pottery wheel ?

  • Excellent demonstration and description of the technique.

  • hypnotic

  • gorgeous

  • thanks Lisa

  • thank you for this video the potters that we begin we it are grateful For Ours Pity that videoes do not exist in Spanish so good and didactic

    Saludos desde Venezuela

  • lovely shape, a pretty nice line/curve you got on that, i think i might pull out a wooden rib soon and try it out

  • Heh, I tried throwing my first bowl today in my ceramics class. I didn't do too bad except when I was compressing the bottom I went too far and made a hole :(

  • hey kevin do u get paid a lot for being a potter ...and how much? i wanna go to classes to become a proffesional ..but it depends if u get paid alot

  • hello,

potters do not get paid a lot of money. most subsidise pottery with a teaching job or similar. But if all you want in life is money, then become a banker, accountant or lawyer.

By the way I do not do pottery full time. Its a hobby for me, somewhere i can go and forget about all the stresses of my full time (under-paid) job.

  • Oh,

I see you use 2 kg clay. Good.

  • Kevin,

Thanks for posting your demo. Your's is the best. I like your calm manner of speaking and your skill is very evident. I am Having trouble with clay consistency. First had too stiff clay, then too sticky.

Alot of books I've read start with a low cylinder which quickly goes bowl-shape. Your vertical approach makes more sense.

About how much clay are you using here?

Any advice you have would be great. I would love to watch a mug throwing demo.

    Thanks again

    D

  • Wow!

Kevin, you make it look so easy! Great demonstration; I'm lookin' forward to watching more of your talent in (hopefully) coming videos.

  • thanks for the comment....its a bit like riding a bike...difficult to begin with but it get easier the more you practice.

  • What would be the best clay to use for a beginner? Thanks, and you did a very nice job.

  • The clay must be quite plastic and smooth, you can throw with grogged clay, but it rips the skin off your hands.

  • white stoneware is the best for throwing.

    In my opnion.

    cone6-10

  • oh man i'm learning to do this and i suck...hopefully i'll improve

  • One of the problems beginners face is speed control. the wheel does not have to spin too fast. Keep practising and you will learn how far you can "push" the clay before it flops on you.

  • that is exactly the problem i have...the wheels in my class are in my opinion odd...they go from really slow to really fast, hardly anything in between...

  • actualy i just started useing it today and i had a real good feel for it, my problem is lack of creativity and i cant really center or keep the edge straight

  • hi

try starting with a small bowl and try thowing several pieces the same. you will notice that somm "look" better than others. For the creative part, look at what other people make and develop your ideas from that. But most of all enjoy it and if your work pleases you....then thats all that matters. Email me for any other questions.

  • approx. how many lbs. of clay did you begin with? -- Gorgeous Work!

  • Hi,

That was thrown with about 2Kg of clay. Thanks for the comments any other questions just ask.

  • Nice Job
