  • The part of the commercial where the clerk says..."You bet your life."

    Guess what...he did.

  • Sure! It's what's up front that counts!

  • Fred died of cancer millions of years ago.

  • @Samjapa He died at 27

  • Who's doing the voice of Rocky the store owner?

  • @67nairb

Daws Butler, also known as Huckleberry Hound, Snagglepuss, and Cap'n Crunch.

  • @RickLowerboy84 Thank you very much. I thought it sounded like Daws Butler.

  • I'm diggin this just the fact that it's very retro... Being that the law was passed on big tobacco and then the law suit. I use to watch the flintstones as a kid and i'm 44yrs. old I and never seen an cigarette commercial ever let alone on an cartoon.

  • i quit smoking but still love this commercial.

  • "You betcha life"...

  • Smoke 'em if you got 'em!!!!

  • I'd be like Peter Griffin or Homer Simpson in a cigarette ad. While unexpected and probably illegal in the US today, it wouldn't be shocking to see the characters in that situation, like it wasn't back then.

  • he didnt pay...

  • So let me get this straight, when I was taking Flintstone vitamins when I was a kid getting healthy and strong, Fred was promoting smokes....LOL...he did make it look appealing...

  • @exita99 when the flintstones first aired it was geared for "adults". It was based on the old Jackie Gleason "honeymooners" tv show.....Ralph Cramdon and his wife alice. It slowly evolved into a kids cartoon

  • wtf.. he forgot to pay ..lOL

  • Yeah, and Flintstone is still alive and looks great! So who says smoking is bad for you?

  • hahaha so funny, ho they would made ads with cartoon character..

I can already imagine Phineas and Ferbes, being in an ad about something

  • not only a commercial for cigarettes but also on how to do a friendly shake down... lol

  • They should change the Flintstones Vitamin commercials to say "Flintstones tastes good like a *click click* vitamin should!"

  • fred flintstone died of lung cancer

  • @FRANKSRYHMEBOOK so it wasnt the Ice Age?.. ;)

  • its what up front that counts ;D

  • i love it!

  • i wonder if he sells samuel adams

  • HE DIDN"T PAY!!!!!!!!

  • @eskimospy77 probably had at that store account

  • Definitely Daws Butler doing that voice for Rocky.

  • bastard got a free pack of smokes

  • @lopez7874 And we have to pay seven bucks a pack? What an asshole!!!!

  • @handinside try 14 bucks for a pack of 20's

  • rocky is a sneaky drug dealer type I can tell

  • Decades ago some stores would run a "tab" with a regular customer. At the end of the week or month the customer would pay it off. This practice seems to have gone the way of the dodo. ( or the caveman) that's probably why Fred left without paying.

  • The first time I saw a Flintstones/Winston commercial I was disappointed. Oh well. Cave men. Phooey.

  • Well..I mean they did more than just pitch cigarettes...they pitched Welch's grape jelly too. At least they didn't actually smoke in any of the cartoons.

  • al menos tenemos que agradecer que esos anuncios no eran parte del teleshow en si, osea, alabando un cigarro, mostrandolo como algo delicioso?! al fumador pasivo le da cancer, si alguien fuma serca de ti te hara daño.

  • VERY COOL AD!!!!!!!

  • my brother said that the Flinstones are betrayers! b/c they smoke Cigarettes

  • @puppiegurl101 Betrayers? Betrayers of what, exactly?

  • Comment removed

  • @nikkissippi121 u know what i asked him the same thing but he wouldn't say so i punched him in the shoulder he said ow now he has a bruise soo idk

  • lol "its whats a front that count"

  • @sjnz90, actually "The Flintstones" was marketed for adults when first released in 1960. But, the network found that more and more children were watching the show as much as adults. In later seasons, this and other Winston bits were simply edited out. Yes, smoking is sick. I'm glad I don't smoke or drink.

  • 0:21 "You bet your life!" What an unfortunate choice of words for a cigarette ad...

  • @Kev95682 I was about to post the same comment, then I saw you already noticed it lol

  • Soon Cartoons will make commercials on Drugs ^^

  • @Vladut0071 Cigarettes ARE drugs.

  • Well, he's convinced me! I'm off to buy a carton of Winstons!

  • @tricesimo do they even make them anymore?

  • can't say that i have... what's that then?

  • Don't feel too smug - now hard liquor is advertised on TV, and back then it was prohibited. Isn't booze even more dangerous than cigs?

  • good commercial

  • cigarette shop PBS Kids Bookworm Bunch.

  • 7 people are george jetson

  • this is before cigarettes caused cancer

  • @theslickmexican smoking always caused cancer but this is before the surgegn generals warning in '64

    Evan

  • @SmokingEssy7887 cartoon characters don't get cancer.

  • @theslickmexican i know, it was a joke =P

  • I miss my lighters.

  • My momma payed for every cigarette she ever smoked. She eventually paid with her life.

  • great clip they should get the simpsons to do the same haha

  • Uh Freddy.....you may want to turn around and go back in and explain why you didn't pay for that pack 'o butts!!!

  • FRED JUST SHOP LIFTED A PACK "O" SMOKES WITHOUT PAYING !!!!

  • Wow! Unbelievable!

  • i love it

  • You bet your life... (0:21)

  • ...

The description amused me a little more then the commercial did. XD

  • My mom smoked winston cigarettes until they killer her

  • @fasteddie847 honestly......my father ate thick steaks all the time and it killed him from all the cholesterol. People have to decide if they want to live a long life void of all pleasure or a shorter life that they enjoyed

  • @inkey2

actually I like your comment very much.....it truly makes alot of sense...avoid human pleasure and you will live a very long life, and probably chances of a tasteless life with all the health benefits......however, seek human pleasure of all kinds and you will live less and probably die young with lack of health.....but, chances of living happily and gain much pleasure and probably die a happy death...probably...due to the fact that you satisified all your primitive urges...CHOSE!!!

  • @Virus2020 Its like I have always told people when this topic comes up.....I don't think smoking is any more dangerous than joining the military, riding a motorcycle or living in an urban area. I am 57 years old and for the first 35 years of my life i (and everyone else my age) had to breath car exaust with "lead" in it back when gasoline used lead as an additive. I managed a retail store 6 feet from a busy street....all day i breathed diesel and leaded gasoline fumes

  • They say this isn't a childrens show. Then why have I been watching it all my life, and why is it on Boomerang? On The Flintstones, you never see Fred, Barney, or Wilma smoke anyway, except after Pebbles was born and Fred and Barney got run out by Miss Frightenshale, Pebbles nurse. They were advertising Welch's products by the time Pebbles was born according to You Tube.

  • @enkopingsbo

Most of that "God knows what" is in the glue on the paper.

But make no mistake, ANY use of tobacco, is unhealthy.

  • and to think kids watched this back in the day. WTF?!?

  • Yabba-Dabba-COUGH-COUGH-doooooo.......

  • ooooh the irony

  • Why. I am in dare class and a

We r talkm about this it is soooooooo sad that a childrens show is smokn so sad

  • @hickpink

This was aimed at adults more than kids when it was first aired. It was shown during prime time.

  • @zangler01 well still children could be watching this and think that this is ok

  • HE DIDINT PAY! THAT DICK! unless he gets um free 0.0

  • @Alimccoy1 He pays all at once at the end of the month.

  • Not Exactly a Bargain..Rocky did touch the filter Fred would have out in his mouth(hope he washed his hands, yeech).Maybe they were for Wilma,so Fred didn't care?Fred Himself is a Cigar Man if I remember well. I wonder what price they got back then for Gigantic, self sealing packs of Cigarettes.

  • If Fred Flinstone smokes Winston cigarettes,I wonder what kind of beer he drinks

  • @eagleofmiami In 1966, Anheiser-Busch made a 30 minute Flintstone cartoon for distributors of Busch Beer. Fred and Barney commented several times; "When you're due for a beer, Busch does it. You can't say beer better than Busch." So, to answer your question, it's Busch.

  • @mikecleona @mikecleona That's true!! I have a clear copy of that Flintstones beer industrial film/commercial, but it was too long to post in YouTube when I tried 3 years ago, and I didn't want to post it in pieces, though I think someone else has posted it in 3 parts...

  • @eagleofmiami Keystone Light

  • @DaDeadMako: You mean Keystone Ice-age light. :oD.

  • @eagleofmiami I think there is an ad for that too, search for the video on youtube. "Flintstones Beer"

  • thats one huge cigarette

  • they where free?

  • guess cigarettes where free in the 50s

  • 60's. They were like 25 cents a pack

  • @56BUICKRiviera I was paying 25 cents a pack in the late 70's.

  • How cool. Awesome classic videos!

  • lol see you soon rocky lol

  • Thats so wrong .... he got them for free lol

  • Love these old ads, so politically incorrect. When he says ' you bet your life' maybe that's an hidden message? LOL

  • My guess is that's Herb Vigran providing the voice of the shopkeeper.

  • wtf he just got free cigarettes?

  • lol he did!

  • Fred forgot to pay for his cancer sticks

  • No he didnt if you watched the show he had an account at the drug store on the show

  • what was the name of the drug store then

  • @zekepig Oh He'll pay alright!

  • the best winston box

  • fred fred fred

  • @AmericanPowerBase this is before they realized the health risks of smoking. tobacco has always been a major cash crop in america since colonial times.

  • :20 "they really got to me"!

I know! It's called addiction! Now where's my lighter...

  • hahaa! exactly..

  • Fred didn't pay! thats a worse message than promoting cigarettes...

  • @ManOGatt have you heard of the tab?!

  • YABBA DABBA SMOKE!!!

  • "HOLD IT! HOOOOLD IT!"

  • I don't think the Flintstones were a Sat. morning cartoon. For the benefit of the younger set who grew up w/ cartoon network, back when there were only three networks, they showed cartoons all morning on Sat. The Flintstones was a primetime evening show, I believe. It was basically The Honeymooners in the stone age. It was supposed to be fit for the whole family but it was meant for adults.

  • The Flinstones shouldn't tell kids this!

  • cigarettes used to be basically free.

  • @XXEMOHEARTXX1 On what planet?

  • it's amazing to see how we have changed whether it be from how the bad of the past is compared to today's bad, or good of the past compared to today.

  • Yep that's the one thing that is constant, CHANGE.. we always will and always have.. The problem is when you have no access to history and culture or your elders don't tell you how things used to be, well you just don't know different things are now..Believe it or not, just over 10 years ago, we didn't have the internet.. So you never would have seen this commercial unless you had it on movie film or some film collector sold you a copy on video.

  • @SURFSTYLEY3 10 years ago you didn't have the internet? You were kind of late in getting involved. The internet has been around since the 60's.

  • Hold it? What does Fred think Rocky's been doing with that cigarette?

  • omg, well it's funny seeing cartoons soking XD

  • Forget that this is a cigarette ad. Fred didn't pay.

  • Yea go on kids smoke up!

  • you people are the worst. if you dont like cigarettes, then FUCK OFF!

  • ooooo someone got hooked XD

  • This is so wholesome and American! I knew they had that first commercial but not this one! Two cool dudes fist bumpin their butts and enjoying SMOOTH MELLOW TASTE! Ahhhh! Between the obesity and the smoking it's amazing Fred made it past two season let alone to "Fred and Barney Meet the Schmoo!".

  • si prestan atencion, pedro no pago los cigarrillos

    XDXDXD

  • wtf

  • I never have nor will smoke, but I can't lie, I LOVE the smell of burning tobacco...maybe the companies should try making an incense...

  • Cigarettes never have tar in them to start with. It forms as a product of burning. That's why companies go around saying that their products have 'no tar'

  • Folks really enjoy smoking and all, well I don't. I think it's horrible.

  • Yep, this was on around 8;30 pm , back in the early 1960's ,7;30 was bed time on a school day for us kids. So ,our parents watched this, then it came on early without the cigerette commercials for us kids. Even at a young age i knew it was a honeymooners type cartoon.

  • cigerettes are as nasty as heck.

  • Shouldn't the cigarettes have been rocks, like everything else in the flinstones universe? :P

  • Bu then nobody buy the cigarettes if they were rocks. It's good advertising sense. Kinda like in a movie, it's Christmastime, the town is covered in snow and every building was covered up except for Burger King which is still clean and fresh, good way of advertising BK

  • @JustAManInAMask How the hell do you smoke a rock? O_O

  • @allyourmaze crack heads do it all the time

  • ... he didn't pay... O.O

  • In those days, stores gave credit to their best customers. Fred would have paid his bill eventually as in those days everybody trusted everybody else.

  • @QueenYavanna OMG, I noticed that too! We played this commercial about a year ago in a class about sociology and the media. I was the *only* person in the entire class who caught that Fred never paid for his cigarettes-- including the professor.

  • @QueenYavanna Ever hear of a tab?

  • that may be true.

But still if kids see that commericial then, we they grow up to all thease drugged up cigarrettes they will buy them because the Flinstones did it.l

  • In my lifetime, I've never seen a cigarette made of 'pure tobacco'. When someone puts tobacco in a regular pipe, they have to keep lighting it because it keeps going out, but when someone lights a cigarette, it keeps burning all the way to the end, like a fuse!! I've always believed something was added to cigarette tobacco to keep it lit, so that the tobacco companies could sell more cigarettes, but that's just one man's opinion...

  • cigarettes have paper around the tobacco hence it will keep burning

  • No, paper or no paper, the chemicals added to keep cigarettes burning will keep them burning. If you roll your own, they will always go out & you have to relight them.

  • Cigarettes DO have chemicals added to keep them burning. There is pending legislation now to remove these chemicals for fire hazard reasons. I used to roll my own organic tobacco, and yes, it went out constantly. At least there were no chemicals.

  • @weenielongus Tobacco dust was, and still is, added to cigarettes to keep them burning steadily.

  • @weenielongus I can keep my pipe lit for a while

  • @weenielongus The normal cigarette's that they sell are treated with a lot of chemichals , i smoke tobacco at a bag , you can see the difference even in taste , smoke and smell. If i smoke a normal cigarette you can smell it even on my clothes.

  • @weenielongus That's why i don't smoke normal cigarette's anymore.

  • well.....that kinda WIERD.....cause that can teach kids to smoke. and in a kids show! REALY!

  • Its not really a kids show in the first place

  • Yes, "The Flintstones" was a prime-time sitcom, not a 'children's' show (just like "The Family Guy" today)...

  • So I guess 20-30 years down the road, Family Guy will seem more "innocent?"

    ^_^

  • actually no...THE FLINTSTONES aired in prime-time and it was aimed at adults. do you really think a show aimed at children would be pushing cigarettes? the problem that exists is when cartoons started to be thought of as only for kids and because of this mentality being honed into people's mind-set's a lot of people TODAY seem to forget or simply not even realize that cartoons were once aimed at adults. When cartoons started to be watched way more by kids, the adult themes were removed.

  • Boy the times have change have they.

  • damn i wish i could get a free pack like that.

  • He had a tab at the drug store on the show and they kept there for the commerical

  • What?! he didn't even pay for them!

  • You know, FOR KIDS!

  • This show when it first came out was on a timeslot that came on when kids were supposed to be asleep. So it was actually aimed towards adults. So therefore it would make sense for the Flintstones to be used as marketing tools for an adult product.

Now we have the Flintstones used for children's vitamins. WTF happened??

  • Don't forget about the cereal :D, even though it's not a drug.

  • Se va sin pagar, el hijoputa.

  • that's like buying cigs in mexico

  • 好可愛的鳥喔

  • ever notice in these commericial with the flinstones the cigs are always like mamoth sized their like the size of his head

  • Fred didn't pay for those cigarettes.

  • He had a standing charge account that he paid on payday after work

  • That's a smooth pitch.

  • Oops! *Flintstones* Dodgy keyboard, sorry.
