anyone no the tune of his (sure its during this gig) that has the words/chorus 'if you aint got the blues in your body you aint got no natural soul, aint taking jesus just sweet jelly roll' ........ its been haunting me for years. Got he first bit of it on badly recorded VHS and it was on chanell 4 (uk) early eighties/ish .......... Ta
wow- forgot how absolutely great he is...Saw him a few times in the early '70's- once when he had that tuba horn section....phenomenonal live performer...
Love the George Benson-style scat-playing here. Taj Mahal is the man - probably the best live version of this song I've heard yet! Thanks for uploading.
holy crap that was good ! the scat-sync with the guitar was unbelievable. saw him on the Boston common in '69 or '70 or maybe both - been a fan since. great stuff!!!!!
Of the many many great tunes he's recorded over the years this one's my favorite. Since around 1970 I've seen him perform live about 20 times and he's most definitely still the man.
This is what music is all about. This man IS music. And living proof that you don't become an automatic candidate for OLD & DECREPIT---f you take care of yourself and make music a part of of your life, forever.
Who is on keyboards? Brilliant! Does anyone know if there is a vid of "Built For Comfort"? Man, I used to play that until the vinyl wore out back in the 60's. WOOO HOOO!!
If you've never heard his live album: The Real Thing where these songs are done with some strong horns (including a couple tubas!), you absolutely MUST. Still one of my all time favorites.
Please, someone add You Rascal You from Taj Mahal's Senor Blues album. I love swing dancin in the kitchen & with this on YouTube I can swing dance to it in the bedroom, to the blues...the mom.
He's been doing this tune for almost 40 years I'll bet. I have it on vinyl from a 1969 album, "The Real Thing". amazingly different kind of album I highly endorse.
When i was 4 days old, in Fiji, my dad owned the hottest restaurant in Suva at the time, and he had played their. And they had been friends since, and coincendentally he was in town a few days after I was born. The first time I can remember meeting him was when I was six, in New Zealand.
Where it was the concert and years? please :D

As mentioned in another comment, "The Real Thing" was a fantastic album.
I used to sing my baby girl to sleep to "Fishing Blues" evey night. She loved it because of the line "my baby's going fishing too".
Recently, I sang my grandson to sleep to the same song and saw her watching me. Her comment with a smile was "It still works, Dad!"
I have seen Taj Mahal 4 times, with a band and solo and if you get the chance - make sure to go see him.

I see him every year. His concerts are always great and always different from the last. Also a very humble, funny and very real man.

One of my first albums! You've never hear country blues backed by a tuba choir again.
Good recent CD release (finally) on Columbia.
